Customers are saying
Customers express satisfaction with the PlayStation 4's impressive graphics, enjoyable controller, and ease of use. Many also praise its performance and find it to be a good value for the price. However, some customers point out the lack of backwards compatibility with previous PlayStation consoles and disappointingly short battery life of the controller. The absence of a bundled camera was also noted as a drawback by some users.

The one to purchase hands down.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.FULL DISCLOSURE: I come from having a day one PS3 unit. I purchased day one releases of the PS4 and XBOX ONE. I purchased from Best Buy because they offer **REAL** rewards verses the points for trinkets joke over at Game Stop. Some may ask why I purchased both units. I am a huge fan of the National Football League and play Fantasy Football. From what I have read, the XBOX ONE is going to have interactive content with the NFL. For me that alone was enough to purchase an XBOX ONE. If the XBOX ONE did not offer the NFL content I would have taken a pass. What impresses me the most about the PS4 is the build quality of the unit. Its solidly built. There is nothing flimsy about the unit. All of the connection ports are solid. The PS4 controller feels solid and the supplied cables are adequate and include everything you need to get started. I love it when there are no surprise trips back to the store to get other wires, cables, etc. However, I am sure one of the knowledgeable associates at Best Buy would have advised me if something else was required. Yes the unit does require a system update out of the box. I consider this to be a good thing. It assures me that Sony is on top of what they are doing and knew something required a patch update to optimize performance and improve customer experience. I have a blazing fast TWC internet connection and I am hard wired to a router. The update took less than 4 minutes to download and install. The software interface feels the same as the PS3 with some enhancements and a more functional layout in my opinion. Set up and customization are a breeze. All operations are intuitive and are not difficult to use. For me the real plus was to be up, logged in, operational, and playing games in less than 20 minutes out of the box. Games purchased so far include: Assassins Creed Black Flag - Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty Ghosts. Game play has been outstanding. I only have two minor complaints: 1 - PLEASE STOP USING THE PIANO BLACK HIGH GLOSS FINISH (and that applies to all electronics manufacturers). You wipe this finish once and it will scratch. True its only half the unit. However, in my opinion, the entire unit should have been in the textured high impact plastic. Unless the manufacturer is going to put the Piano Black High Gloss Finish behind or underneath Gorilla Glass... They should refrain from using it.... PERIOD. 2 - PAY FOR PLAY HACKS ME OFF - PlayStation Network has moved to the XBOX style of PAY FOR PLAY. If you want to have the online multiplayer experience its going to cost you $50/year. I am not a fan of this move. However, they could have softened the blow and offered a multi year buy in discount of say 4 years for $100. Lets be honest... I am going to want online content as long as I own the system so a multi year deal appeals to me and I am sure I am not alone. Some are complaining about the limited game offerings and downloads available at this time. Its a new system people. Give them time!!! Soon we will be swimming in an ocean of games and download content. I found value in the 2 year extended warranty Best Buy offered for $89.00. Covers everything in the box for 2 full years. In my opinion, the PS4 is the system to own. Best Buy (thanks to the My Best Buy Program and two year extended protection they offer) is the only place to purchase from hands down.

Exactly what I was hoping for and expected!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will be honest by saying that I am glad that I didn't get a PS4 with day one issues. However, we all should expect that from a new console. There has never been a new console release without specific console issues. Plain and simple, they're expected. On the bright side, for those that had an issue, you'll get a new console, you're not being ignored. For those like me that have a perfectly fine functioning console, then you know the joy that I am experiencing. Sony has indeed delivered to those of us who like GAMES! This is the console that is focused on that very purpose. Even my 3 yr old daughter is obsessed with The Playroom (this works best with the playstation camera). That camera based game has proven to be a success based on the entertainment value that it holds, especially for children. All in all, I am overly pleased and I hope everyone else is too. It's a great value for a fantastic system!

If the Xbox One had a big brother...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So if you're like me, you just want to know why you should buy a PS4 instead of an Xbox One. There are several reasons. The PS4 controller is ten times more comfortable. The new triggers, touch pad, and speaker were the perfect additions. If I had to make changes, I would have added a mic into the controller and increased the rumble feature. PS4 has always offered uninhibited access to its array of third party apps (ie netflix, etc.). Microsoft forced you to subscribe to their premium service to get access to the internet and third party apps. Playstation leads the way in giving consumers what they want. Microsoft wasn't going to have simple game sharing, so they changed their policies to the same as Playstation. Playstation was cheaper and the camera is sold separately, so now Xbox is cheaper because they are selling the camera separately. Playstation has been giving away free games every month for its premium service subscribers (Playstation Plus), so Microsoft announced it will start giving free games. Notice a pattern here. If you want a system with a company who cares about its costumer and is going to offer the best gaming experience while also adding just the right amount of additional home entertainment, get a PS4. If you want a system that will turn its back on gamers to get a niche in other markets all the while nickel and diming you for every possible service or feature, get an Xbox One.

Powerfull Gaming Console
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The console itself is solid, runs fast and smoothly. It has great style, weighs nothing and overall really easy to use. The only downside that i have found is the controller battery life... other than that PS4 is a must have for any enthusiast player.

Sony PS4
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony has improved over the design of the PS3 prompting a sleek design, increased user functionality, and the ability to play & watch you're Blu-ray and DVD movies. The one downside to the PS4 is the fact that it has a 500GB hard drive in it. Eventually once you start to build up your library you will find yourself running out of space. Overall it is a great product despite it's limited library of games available.

Sleek, fast console
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a console that on the outside can only be described with one word: beautiful. This is a console which designers did not spare on details to end with a sleek design that no one would have any problem having in plain sight (compared to xbox one which is a significantly larger box with no other design than just a big black box). Now on whats important, PS4 console is packed with outstanding power and has no problems running a game (which is what was designed for) and contrary to xbox one, you do not need to pay a membership fee in order to use the apps such as netflix, amazon, hulu, etc, (which for xbox one in order to use them you have to pay a gold membership of about $60 per year). PS4 is $100 less than xbox one and mainly is due to PS4 not including the camera (while xbox one includes kinetic), however not having the camera in my opinion is a good thing for now since currently there aren't that many games to take advantage of it, unless you want it for video calls, which in my case I do not care about. So until I see the need to get the camera, I welcome the option to buy a PS4 that Sony does not makes me buy it with it. Overall I would recommend this console over xbox

PS4 is my choice! Gaming machine!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have chosen the PS4 for my next gen console! and here's why! All I want is a videogame focused 100% in games for gamers... I don't mind using Netflix or Hulu plus, but I feel relieved that the PS4 will not be integrated to a cable box... At the end, the PS4 has a better hardware than the X1 and also is $100 cheap... So, I was able to use that money to pre order 2 additional games. All third party studio have said, that the PS4 has a better DEV Kit as well. So for the next games, the PS4 is going to look better than the X1. Also, one major crucial thing that made me to choose the PS4 instead of the X1, it was that I can upgrade the HDD, I have plans to get a 512gb SSD on Black Friday for my PS4. At the end, it is all about the exclusives games... and Sony didn't even announce their biggest games yet, such as Uncharted, God of War, Twisted Metal, Resistance, Gran Turismo, Last of Us, Little Big Planet, MLB, Ratchet and Clank, Warhawk, Beyond: Two Souls and etc.... I believe that the PS4 has a better package, better hardware and games...

8th generation is good to go
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Minimal waste involved in packaging and exceptionally straight forward initial setup make for a stress free first day. As with all new consoles the software library is still quite sparse, but if there is any one game you're interested in (your "killer app") I would encourage you to take the plunge - the raw graphical output power of the unit is quite impressive. The Dualshock 4 controller ergonomics are a vast improvement over the 3, though be prepared for stubborn muscle memory reaching for the old position of the Start (now 'Options') button. Playstation Plus and Playstation Now as services are both exceptional values.

Half of generation leap
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was torn on either to get a PS4 or Xbox1. A lot of my friends are Xbox loyalists so I considered switching so I could play online with them. However, I am also a big baseball fan which Sony has the only baseball game out (not counting RBI baseball as one). I've never had any problems with my PS3 and Sony, in my opinion, gives a good value on PSNetwork over Xbox Live, although now it seems like Microsoft is following in Sony's footsteps. I got the PS4 and wow it is much quicker than the PS3, it has adapted the whole, app switching, similar to a mobile phone. Graphics are better as well but it's not a jaw dropping difference. Overall I am happy with the purchase, MLB the show is a great game for baseball fans and looks pretty good on the PS4 as well. I would like to see 3D bluray be supported as my PS3 can do that, and the Controller Battery life is maybe half the strength as the PS4. I would consider this generation as a half of generation leap not as big of a difference as PS2 and XBox to PS3 and XBox 360

Great Quality, Great Buy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my last console I plan to purchase so I did a lot of research on deciding which Next-Gen console to purchase. The ability to upgrade the HDD on the PS4 is a great thing once again. I plan on using a 2TB HDD for it when it is released. The PS4 runs very silent and it also is very compact. The UI is simple to use. It does not lag at all.

Best Console to date!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ps4 is an amazing machine! I was lucky and was able to get this upon launch night from Amazon. On my first few minutes of gaming, I realized just how much better this ps4 truly is. It is extremely snappy and the true multi-tasking is very nice! One of my favorite features is the headphone jack on the remote. This allows me to plug in any headphones (mine are shure se535's) and play silently. This is huge for me because I game rather late and I live in an apartment. The remote controller is probably the single greatest upgrade from ps3 to ps4. It is slightly larger and the trigger buttons and analog sticks are much improved! The trackpad and light sensor are nice but aren't being used to their potential yet. I was worried about the size of the controller initially because I have small hands, however it hasn't been an issue. And once you use the ps4 controller and revert back to the older dualshock remote for the ps3, you'll hate it! Overall the OS is amazing and very simplistic and well-thought out! I actually have my name as my online id, but we'll see in the future if that causes any issues with people contacting me via Facebook. Minor quibbles with the machine is the lack of backwards compatibility and the lack of exclusives so far. Though those aren't deal breakers because I still have my ps3 and I know the games are coming. Also my only con is the game installations when you first install a disc. For me these take quite a while and upwards of 30 minutes to an hour. I though that this provided you to play games instantly without the disc, however this is not true. You still have to insert the disc to play the game. So I'm not sure why Sony has you do this. Currently I am playing NBA 2k14 (which is in my opinion the best looking ps4 game to date) and Assasins Creed: Black Flag and I'm loving every minute of it! I highly recommend this console to anyone!

awesome system from top to bottom
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The overall casing looks awesome and does not take up a lot of room on entertainment center. The controller may be one of the best controllers ever( very comfortable in your hands). The user interface mainpage looks great and at the same time is very user friendly. So far the games that are out for it look incredible.

It's a Playstation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been a Playstation user since the original. The PS4 has not disappointed me. If you're used to the PS3 home page layout, the PS4's will take some getting used to, but it's very nicely laid out. The graphics are fast and crystal clear. Controllers are comfortable. If there is a con to the system, I would say that there aren't enough games for use with the camera. I'm not the type to broadcast myself playing a game but I did enjoy playing the PS Move games.

Awesome
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The size is more compactt. The graphics look cleaner and more realistic. The design is futuristic. Price isn't bad, I think you get more for your money than Xbox. However, the battey life on the controller isn't how it used to be before. Usually, you can go on with days not charging your controller depending on how much you play but with the new deign of the controller, it can maybe last you a couple days. Also, to play online you do have to pay just like Xbox but with playstation plus, you get free games to download. Still a better deal. Overall, I'm very happy with my product. I love it!

Awesome gaming console
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I come from having a Xbox 360 so I'm not a PlayStation fan-boy. Really like the way the console look's compared the the big black box like the Xbox one. And i wasn't too hype about having to pay for something (the kinnect ) that i didn't really want. After looking up the specs of both systems i realized that the PlayStation was actually more powerful then the Xbox due to the fact that Xbox is always using 10% of its processor to run the kinnect and the PlayStation has a bigger GPU and faster RAM and was in a smaller package so that was a big plus on PlayStation's system, and also its $10 cheaper for Sony's online subscription service and every month you get free games with PlayStation plus. Over all the system is really quiet and software runs really smooth, the controller is amazing and i love it.

Excellent hardware; lacking media features.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS4 is more powerful, and better designed than its competitors. It provides better graphics and smoother gameplay, but is contained in a smaller and more streamlined chassis. It even has an internal power supply, providing an even smaller profile when compared to the XB1. It also features an extremely feature full controller with bluetooth, a TRRS 3.5mm headset jack that works with many phone headsets, gyro features that can make the controller perform much like a wiimote, rumble motors, and a speaker. The built in browser feels much like a Mac or PC, and is pretty easy to navigate even without a keyboard. Voice features don't require the camera. Just plug a headset in. Now the negatives: Like the XBox one, it features a Blu-Ray player, but the lack of dlna or other media features pale in comparison to the XB1. You cannot play your media on the ps4. Period. The HDMI input on the XB1 is an amazing feature, as well. The analog thumb sticks on the dualshock 4 have an uncomfortable grip, but this can be easily overcome by either replacing them with XB1 thumb sticks or buying silicone caps to cover them. The voice commands are limited and could learn a thing or 2 from Siri. Finally, the dualshock 4 battery is not removable, and there are almost no aftermarket controllers. Overall, the PS4 delivers mid to high end gaming PC quality graphics with the polish and smoothness of a console- and at half the cost. While light on features other than gaming, it shows a lot of promise as Sony adds features. Ultimately, most people will buy the console their friends are playing on. If this is not a factor and you have a media center or another way to play your videos and mp3's, then this is the best option bar-none for next-gen gaming.

Good console
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great unit. Has faster processor than the PS3. Graphics are great but I have yet to see a large difference in PS4 versus PS3. The downside? Does not work with Harmony Remote Does not work with PS3 titles Requires paid subscription to play online The upside? Works with PS4 app for smartphones Faster processor Quieter operation

Great purchase for Blu Ray and Streaming Video
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I mainly bought this to stream video from Vudu and Amazon Prime, since we don't have the time to devote to the games we used to enjoy. There was a time when I could play Pool of Radiance from start to finish on a Saturday, but there's just no doing that with today's games. The interface is beautiful and even easier to navigate than the old PS3, and the system is even faster and smoother than our old PS3.
