A Review from a 1080p and VR User
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.It seems that everyone knows that this system is great for people with 4K tvs, but are there any benefits for people with 1080p TVs? The answer is YES... mostly. It seems that games with Pro support are much cleaner on older Full HD screens. However, I bought this mainly to use with PlayStation VR, as I found the standard console to be a bit blurry. The Pro handles VR amazingly. It seems that every single VR game is rendered at a higher resolution and then downsampled to the headset, which makes for a SIGNIFICANTLY clearer image in comparison to the regular PS4. That alone makes it worthwhile to me. However, there is one caveat: if you are a 4K HDR user, the VR box cannot pass HDR through its HDMI port. This is a very frustrating design flaw, and I do not know if it can be fixed with a firmware update or not.

Not a noticeable upgrade

The angled face doesn't help when inserting a disc. The machine definitely gets warm after being on for a few hours. Still an impressive game system.

Must have if...

Although I was expecting a bump in graphics and performance quality from my original model, I have yet to be impressed. I did try a couple of titles such as Tomb Raider and Uncharted 4 as well as VR. The upgrades were very minimal and there are trade-offs such as higher graphics and physics at 30fps or less at 60fps at 1080p. The best reason to get this is if you do not have a PS4 or you actually have a 4K television. Although sadly, 4K Blu-ray is not even supported (yet?).
