I went from a original ps4 to the ps4 pro and moSt of the differences are barely noticeable, games do perform better, on 1080 you aren't going to see much difference on screen. 4k is pretty nice though! Load times are definitely better, seems to run quietly, having the better WiFi connection is a huge help.

If you are the owner of the original PS4 model and need to replace it or you've upgraded to a 4K TV, the Pro is definitely worth considering. Key differences over the Slim model: extra USB port, 4K streaming capability, games with Pro support offer higher resolution and/or frame rates.

    2nd Ps4

This is our second purchase of the PS4 Pro. Our son was having trouble with the first one it being slow as well as a few other things. This PS4 is faster with downloading games as well as playing them. It seems to have alot better graphics then the regular PS4. More in depth my son said. The only thing is the stems on the controller, we are constantly taking it for an exchange. The cords never seem to last for charging the controller, always falling out. They need to build in mics and charger for the controller. That is why the 4 Stars and having to replace it with a new one.

It's a console that works and has shown great performance for what it is. Most games I've played I've seen significant differences between this and the regular PS4. I've since moved on to PC but I still love gaming on this.

I play my PS4 everyday so this was a no brainer for me. I love the Pro and it was totally worth it. It's quieter, faster, graphics are great and will only get better with time. Buy it if you want the PS4 right now or don't if you don't think you need it. I have a Samsung JS9000 TV and it looks insane on it.

Excellence from Sony, time will tell.

its impossible to know if its excellent, or pointless until we use them. we dont know exactly how much difference its going to make, and it really depends on how much work developers put into the Pro 'version' of each game, i personally hope its a huge difference. i feel to really notice the difference however, you need a very nice 4k hdr 120hz to experience thoroughly and properly. second, if Sony, the leader of DVD, blueray, and the players for those formats, doesnt include a 4k UHD dvd player on it, its probably for a good reason(maybe 4k UHD bluerays will flop like hd dvd, if anyone can predict that its sony). its a gaming device for the most part, and this would be at least $500 if it had 4k UHD player included, and i would not buy it. the ps4 pro, on paper, looks excellent. can anyone ever remember a sony system failing(in the last 15 years)just trust them, and enjoy the epicness. i definitely will. will uodate after using! will be playing final fantasy XV on a samsung KS8500, which ive saved for for 4 months.

Twice the performance for $100 more

For those complaining about the lack of UHD Bluray, you can easily go spend $150-200 more on one but at this price Sony did the right thing which is to appeal to gamers that would normally be buying a PC vs the aging PS4. I wilk take the lower bitrate of streaming 4K and if I absolutely have to have UHD quality I can always download the movie and stream it on my local network via PLEX. For the price of 3 UHD Blurays I can pickup a 4TB drive + my movies. And to those who say the Xbox One or One S is faster than a regular PS4....wow. PS4 graphics processor has 384 more cores than the Xbox One and GDDR5 memory vs GDDR3 & 32MB DRAM so there is no comparison and it shows in thw games. The Scorpio might end up being faster but that is over a year away and I am sure Sony will respond in kind. The PS4 Pro graphics processor is based on a chip with 5+ TFLOPs of processing power when run closer to its full potential clock speed so a firmware update could be in the Pro's future.

True Gaming Console. Not a media player.

For $400, its a steal. This unit packs some serious punch for pennies on the dollar. All this fuss about no 4k blu ray player this and that. They cut out the fat and kept this machine what it should always be. A gaming system. 30$ a pop for uhd movies on disc is just silly. Your money is going into the graphics dept. and nothing more. IT's a GAMING console, not an overpriced UHD disc movie player. I would never use my PS4 for blu ray movies anyways. I have a dedicated blu ray player for that. Why wear out your drive motor for movies when its meant for GAMES! I think over the years I have watched gamers get more and more spoiled and they complain over almost anything. The graphics chip in this unit is worth about $250 alone! AT $400 you want a 4k Blu Ray disc player as well?! SMH, Go buy your Highly under powered XBONE S. But hey, it has a 4k blu ray player and processing power at 1/3 the power of a Ps4 Pro! Sounds not a like a good deal to me, considering its a Gaming Console! lol.

Xbox owner finally decided to get a PS4 Pro

I have been an Xbox supporter since the 360 and currently own an Xbox 1. I haven't owned a PS since PS2 but due to a string of great games that PS4 has released and the drought of good games for the Xbox (at least until the fall) I decided to pick up an PS4 Pro. I will be getting a Xbox 'Scorpio' when that is released so I really am pretty impartial to the console wars on which is better system/company. I also have a 4K TV with HDR which is the reason I went with the Pro. So to get me through the drought of game releases I decided to pick up a PS4 Pro and catch-up on some of the games I have been missing out on, starting with Horizon Zero Dawn. I have had it for about 4 days now so here are some observations from someone who has been out of the PS environment for a few years and now jumping back in. Also, some things that I like/don't like versus the Xbox. The PS4 Pro on a 4K HDR TV looks great, however, the HDMI cable it came with was having issues with the 'handshake' and my TV screen would blink on and off to black when HDR was turned on. So much so it was unplayable with HDR turned on but worked fine without it. This is a pretty common issue out there if you look it up. I decided to buy a new high speed HDMI cable, that I bought online, and that seemed to fix the issue. I think I saw it blink once in the 2 days I have played since it has been installed. I have an older Xbox 1, and not the 'S', so obviously having the extra power of PS4 Pro on a 4K TV looks better. Scorpio, when that comes out, should look just as good or if not better than the PS4 Pro by sounds of the specs. Menu System - The menu system is fairly easy but I don't know what half of the PS apps/programs are. There doesn't seem to be too much explanation for things but I am slowly figuring it out. Maybe because I am more used to the Xbox, and haven't had a PS in a several years, but I find the Xbox menu easier. For instance I was having a hard time finding a recently released game demo in the PS4 store but, again, it may be my lack of familiarity with the menu system on where to go. Xbox I would have gone right to the store and then 'game demos' to find it and it didn't seem as clear on the PS4. Controllers - I like the Xbox controller a little more. The PS4 controller is great but I just like the overall feel and layout of the Xbox controller more. I also have an Xbox Elite controller which has great build quality and customization but granted is something I paid extra for. I also don't like that the PS4 controller battery is not removable. The Xbox has the option of AA batteries for which I have great, long lasting rechargeable batteries that I can swap out so I never had to plug the controller in. The PS4 doesn't seem to have the longest battery life and your only option is to plug it in. The PS4 controller overall does feel good and the latest version is way better than the old version I remember. Overall,PS4 Pro is a great system but will be behind in specs/power when the Xbox Scorpio comes out. Which then leaves the games, which is what matters most but a lot of big titles will be on both systems so it will come down to the exclusives in the end. I would say PS has had the edge on exclusives, especially lately. I am just glad that I am now lucky enough to get the best of both worlds. So overall I am glad I made the purchase and look forward on catching up on some games that I wasn't able to play on the Xbox. I am playing Horizon now and it is fantastic and looks great on a 4K HDR TV (once I got the HDR working)

I had a ps4 since it was first released. I upgraded to the pro and definitely do not regret it. Immediately could tell a noticeable difference in graphics and clarity in picture. If you are thinking about getting a pro, stop thinking and just do it.

Why I chose This Over The Xbox One X

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Well first off is the game selection which is pretty much a no brainer. Yes Xbox has backwards compatibility, but if you're paying 500$ for that, there is a problem. You can play them on a regular XB1 just fine, or just use your 360 for games that will never even have BC. That's what I do. Or even a basic PC will play 360 games. PS4 hands down has some of the best exclusives ever made, from Spiderman, God Of War, Uncharted (series) to simple games like Persona, Until Dawn, Detroit Become Human etc. All great stuff. XB1 basically has Gears, Halo and Forza, most of which can be played on PC, soon to be streamed. Or just ported to PC anyway. Something Sony doesn't do, which is why I like their integrity. Secondly this basically has 2 PS4 GPU/APU's in it, running at 4.2 Teraflops, which is nothing to scoff at, considering it's on par with a GTX 980 which still runs most moderns games way above 60fps (in PC form). So it's not a slouch by any means. And the X may have 6 teraflops of gpu power, but to me it means nothing if you don't have the software to back it up. And some games on the PS4 Pro run at 4k, and you can't tell the difference on a 4K TV whether it's upscaled or not, games still look amazing. Third, the price of 399$ is fantastic for what you get, no Sony didn't "need" the Pro but they thought hey we have the greatest console on the planet, why not charge 100$ more and make it even greater. Microsoft on the other hand "desperately" needed the X because of the original's lack of power, and low resolutions/framerates. So more power to them (pun intended). Also the regular PS4 if most can recall was 399$ until around the beginning of 2017, or even 2016 when the Pro came out. So it was never cheap. I can even say for the X being 499$ is not horrid, because upon launch the original was the "same" price. Lastly, It's just great, like the original but better (of course). Great controls, games, the system overall is very silent and if you do hear it it's not like the old jet systems from years ago. And it's future proof enough until the PS5 is released, and they will still be making games long after it comes out. So no worries here. Also PSNOW is not bad at all if u have a great internet connection. Which in 2019 shouldn't be an issue for anyone. Lots of great PS3, PS2 titles to play. Also the reliability for the S and the X is very underwhelming, lots of heating/fan issues overall for many folks. So for peanuts get this, it's a great 4K or close enough system, and Sony have never going around boasting or touting ITS THE MOST POWER SYSTEM ON THE PLANET, as MS do. And does it really matter? They are made to play games, not to have a pi%%ing contest. But most gamers have turned it into that. Also the framerates are very much improved or at least much steadier on this system. Compared to the Slim. Even though it's still fantastic. So get this, and enjoy, you won't regret it for the price. Oh yeah and VR, where is it MS? :)

This ps4 is definitely faster and better than the older generation or the slim. But if you already own a ps4 its not worth to upgrade to the pro unless you have a 4k tv. Also most games do not support 4k or HDR as of now. But if you are new to playstation. Definitely pick this over the other versions.
