Customers are saying

Customers love the PlayStation Classic Console's affordable price and the inclusion of two controllers, finding it easy to use and a nostalgic trip down memory lane. However, many are disappointed with the limited game selection and some have noted issues with the emulation quality. The compact size is also a frequently praised feature.

    Garbage time

Almost half the line up is the PAL version instead of the NTSC version for North America. This means that there will be a NOTICEABLE input lag on almost half the games. The colors on the games are all muted and don't pop at all. The interface is going for a retro PS1 memory card menu look, but the design is lazy and the developers could have done much better. Two controllers are included (which is nice) but they are not dual shock and a few games I feel would benefit from having the two motion sticks. The line up of games isn't a good representation of the true gems that are on the console. Not convinced of this? Just look at the NES and SNES classic; these two consoles had games on it that were the top sellers on the system. There is no AC adapter included, and in today's age of technology and electronics is unacceptable. Save your hard earned money and buy a used PS3/PS2 console to play PS1 games of your choosing, use an emulator or just buy a PS1 console. Lazy effort by Sony on this one. Pass on this

    I like mine

I know everyone is complaining about this little system but I like mine. I had an original PlayStation back in the day and spent countless hours on it. Sure this retro console could use some better games but it’s worth the price to me just for Resident Evil, Rayman, Tekken 3, and Ridge Racer Type 4. The PAL versions of most of the games work fine on my older Samsung 1080p tv. I do notice some slow down on my newer Samsung 4K tv but I turned on Game mode and it seemed to clear up most if not all of it. I think it’s fun using the original controller as well. Sure Sony could have done better but I don’t think it’s as bad as some people are leading on.

Software Department Dropped the Ball HARD

First impression: Awesome looking system. I was impressed that they accurately mirrored the original PlayStation design, Buttons are nice touch. Controller feels like the original controller. Just awesome. But the problem begins with the software side and that’s where they dropped the ball HARD. Where’s Crash? Tomb Raider? Wipeout? Colony Wars? Tony Hawk? Castlevania? Gran Turismo!? Medal of Honor? Street Fighter Alpha? There are just so many great games that defined PSX that are not included in this system. Instead, make way for Destruction Derby, poor port of PC game Rainbow Six, GTA, Super Puzzle Fighter, Mr. Driller, Revelations, Jumping Flash, and Intelligent Cube. Those games certainly did NOT define PSX. This system could have been SO much better. I just hope Sony listens before they release their next mini console.

This could have been much better. The design is cool, the controllers are good quality. It has Intelligent Qube, One of my favorite games! and abes oddesy! It was fun to play those, however Abe's Oddysee was remastered (to perfection) for the PS4 so it's not worth playing on here. If IQ had a remaster I would not have bought this. The controller cords are rather short, tho I suppose you could use a USB extension cable. It doesn't come with a power adapter which is ridiculous! All in all unless you see a game on here that you love and have no other means of playing, this isn't worth getting.

Just as everybody else has said, the PlayStation Classic is a joke. I played it for about 30 minutes and promptly did a factory reset and return to the store after seeing how terrible the emulation on some of the games were. For $100, Sony should have included Dual Analog controllers at the minimum and put actual NTSC/U games on the console. They must have gone with the PAL versions to keep the frame rates from skipping too much because of hardware limitations. The game selection is also pretty lame and does not capture the true entertainment potential of the system. Sony would be much better off if they introduced a budget console next year to allow for PS1, PS2, PSP, and Vita emulation with a store where you could buy the games you want and include some greatest hits in the box to get you started.

I picked this up on a whim knowing that I wasn't too terribly interested in the line-up of games. However, a few of the games are definitely on my list of favorites. Most of the people who have a negative view of this system are comparing this specific system to something else that already exists. And the issue with that is that you either have to compare it to something that you're using illegally, or you are trying to compare it to something that cost a lot more money overall. And we're not just talking a lot more money. We're talking way way more money. Purchasing this system, you're getting an insanely inexpensive gaming system with a preset library of 20 great games. Back when this was in its prime, this whole package would have cost you more than $1000. This is going to be a great solution for not just my boring nights, but my friend and family get togethers and my traveling. For $100, I am very happy.

Horrible lag in all of the games, almost unplayable. Blur effect makes graphics look different than you might remember them. Forgot how bad the PS1 controller was compared to modern controllers with joysticks, but thats minor compared to the buyer's regret I felt after hooking this thing up and playing it. If you bought the NES classic or SNES classic at 60 and 70 dollars respectively, and don't ever play those, well... don't buy this one. Only hope left is that we all figure out a way to hack it. Positive note, if you hookup certain USB keyboards you can hit the ESC button and access hidden emulation options menus, which might help. BestBuy does not allow review edits like most other modern websites or else I would say that I will keep the review updated :\

Best $40 I spent for a Raspberry Pi Alternative

Originally when I first saw the PS Classic, I was excited to see Sony stepping up to the classic console scene. Once I saw the price tag and games that were coming for it, I easily backed away. I did some research on this console and saw the potential it has in the modding scene and decided to wait for a price drop. $39.99 was the sweet spot for me and picked it up over the weekend. Once I got RetroArch and BleemSync working on it, I was able to upload additional PS1 games and other emulators on it such as Gameboy Advanced, SNES, and Genesis. I highly recommend picking this up now as a cheap and great alternative to a Raspberry Pi 3B+. If you're not looking into modding the console, then I really can't recommend it since some of the games on the main PS Classic boot use the PAL (Europe) version, which doesn't sit well with our NTSC TVs/Monitors.

The original Playstation was a console filled with great games, innovative tech, and a lot of memories. This 'classic' system may look and feel like a miniature sized PlayStation, but that is all the more it can be. The game list contains mostly terrible games. Remember that classic Snowboarding game on PS1? Me Either. The PS classic is a novelty, and is something that should stay on a shelf. If you're expecting to relive those glory days on the 90's, buy a ps1,ps2, or ps3 and buy the games at a local retro store. Don't waste your money on this.

This product was totally rushed to cash in on the success Nintendo has had with their classic systems. Sony should have taken more time and released this in 2019 which would have been the 25th anniversary of the system. This one sucks! Many of the games don't hold up well. There is noticeable lag with some as well. And it doesn't even come with an AC plug. Really?! Skip this purchase!

I purchased this device with the intention of just having as a collectors item. What made me finally bite the bullet and buy it after many terrible reviews was the price dropping to $40. At that cost, I find the device has enough value with the collection of games. I would however suggest that you try connecting another USB controller to the device and pressing Select+Triangle while in the game to bring up the developer menu. In here, you can change the games region from AUTO to NTSC. This fixes the issue of the 50hz game play and returns it to 60hz. Drastically enhances the game play.

Sony could of done a bang up job but choose to go the cheap route. 9 games that are PAL?? Those were some of the good games IE Tekken 3. The controllers are solid and that's about it. I already bought 2 and just waiting for the DEV teams to do a little more with it. Nintendo is the only company that has done right by these mini's. Total shame. VERY VERY disappointed.

I knew what I was getting into when buying it. We all knew the game line up, we all knew it wasn't going to have rumble or analog sticks so no-one can complain about that if they bought it (you can easily see that from the box art). Overall they did a great job on making it look like a mini (though I do find myself wanting to open the cd lid at times). I was happy with the game line up about 60% of the games I like are there (you are just not going please everyone 100% of the time). I knew of the DS controller not having joysticks, but I never knew how "hard" it is to play these older games without it. Yet like I said I knew it didn't have it going into it. Only 2 issues I have with it was I felt Twisted Metal had some latency issues with the controls (or it could have just been not what I remembered) Also it didn't come with a power adapter. You spend $100 and they couldn't include a $1 adapter (though it stated that on the box)? I gave it 4 stars because it was what I expected and the games ran perfectly except for TM (I think). Nothing really surprised me out of the box or upset me that I didn't already know before buying it.

One of the worst micro consoles ever

This thing is giving me flash backs to the Neo Geo X that came out a few years ago. People keep complaining about the games list when really that is not the worst of its problems. The emulation of these games is so bad its pretty shocking. Sony should have hired M2 to lead this project to get some decent results. The games have slow down and the sound is out of sync, they also put a blur filter over everything so it looks terrible.(NO OPTIONS IN THE MENU TO FIX THIS!) If you still have a PS2 just use that as it looks and sounds 100% better than this package. Do not buy this unless you are a collector and don't plan to use it. With Sony censoring games and putting out sloppy cash ins on our nostalgia, they sure are having a incredible end of the year for Playstation fans.

Man where do I start? First off the console does not come with an AC adapter. The interface for the game menu looks like it was made by a novice. I mean its bad. The game save states are limited to 1 from what I can tell. The game selection is not the best. Why did I buy this? Man I was hoping for a cool experience like the NES/SNES classic consoles and for the higher price point, a better interface, more save slots, and better graphics. Wow these games look so grainy. I am debating if I should return the console and wait for version 2 of this or skip it all together.

This mini console is emulated by PSXe. Not only that, it's got games that are from the PAL region so you end up getting games that lag or are out of sync. Why they couldn't get the games as NTSC is beyond me. The game selection titles have more games that I wouldn't even bother touching. Buy this only if you're a collector and have to have a piece of gaming history. It's only great titles that make it the PS Classic are Tekken 3, FF7, Metal Gear Solid 1 and Resident Evil. If you're planning on doing something to the console, bear in mind it comes with 16GB all of which are basically used to load the 20 games.
