  • Lots of space but slow write speeds

    Bought this because I got a new macbook and couldn’t expand Hdd. So I got this over the ‘slower’ one as it said it was usb 3 and was faster than the previous model (prices at 18$ to this at $25 atop.) I tried to send some movies to it and it took over an hour. Checked the specs and the minimum write speed is 4mbps. I was getting about 10mbps but hardly a usb 3.0 worthy drive. Read speeds are better but not worth it for anything that’s going to need write speeds.

    I bought this for my tesla dash/sentry footage storage. Worked perfectly and was fast enough to scroll videos while in review mode.

    Tested the PNY against the comparable SanDisk on a Mac TimeMachine backup and found that it was much slower - the PNY was about 40% slower. Both were reformatted to the MAC APFS, so it is likely a slower read/write controller chip. The slider cover gets stuck, but this may improve with use.
