Here is some test data. I used linux and the dd utility to write and read a 1 GiB file on this drive using a block size of 4 MiB(*), using both USB3 and USB2. The results:
USB3: Write 28.5 MiB/s, Read 56.3 MiB/s
USB2: Write 26.2 MiB/s, Read 31.8 MiB/s
Note that USB3 is not significantly faster than USB2 for writing. Writing speed is limited by the write speed of the memory, not the USB speed. On the other hand, reading is faster with USB3, because the read speed of the memory is faster than the transfer speed of USB2.
This drive is relatively fast compared to some other name-brand USB flash drives of this size and price. I have seen some similar USB3 drives with write speeds as low as 4 MB/s. What's the point of USB3, you may ask?
I have two of these drives. I got the first one to use with a set-top converter/PVR and I needed a cheap, fast drive that could keep up with real-time HD digital video recording. This works fine. I liked the drive so much that I bought a second to use with my laptop.
A few notes:
1) Whatever flash drive you get, make sure you have return privileges in case the drive you get is too slow for your needs.
2) This drive is formatted FAT32 out of the box. Note that FAT32 limits file size to 4 GiB. If you plan to put large multi-media files on it you will probably want to reformat it to exFAT.
(*) MiB is binary megabytes; that is, 1 MiB is 2^20 bytes.

Don't be fooled by the look of this. It's not good at all. Every time I try to use this it tells me something about copyright files but they're just pictures from my camera. I went with scandisk and had no problems.

This drive is perfect. Its fast and has enough storage for most backup solutions. The price is a steal for a drive with 128gb and usb 3.0 speed. Its also very small and lightweight. It doesn't get much better than this for a flash drive.
Don't pay any attention to the very few negative reviews. I actually laughed while reading them. They are clearly written by people who aren't computer literate and shouldn't even own a computer. These reviewers probably cant locate the power button on their PCs or MACs.

Unfortunately, this didn't work for backing up my Mac for some reason. I have to return it. Maybe is a defective unit, because it's supposed to work with Macs.

It worked til I started transferring date to it, then is died. Returned for another new one, and that one did the same thing!! Never took it back!! I wouldn't recommend it!! Has never happened with any other USB drive I have bought!!

Exceptional product. I caught a sale and got this large capacity USB 3.0 drive for under $50! I just couldn't resist and I'm so glad I didn't resist. I have been using it for large files (HD video). It transfers these huge files fast and sure! It plays the videos flawlessly and loads them extremely fast.
I would absolutely recommend this to my best friends (and I have).

Speeds were ok for the first 5 min of transferring an 88GB file but then failed once the drive got extremely warm. A different device worked fine but was frustrating.

I bought this memory stick and it was working intermittently. I would be able to start copying files over to it but it would just stop being recognized by the computer. This happened multiple times. I returned it.

Drive worked fine at first but failed after a few months. I have Lexar and SanDisk thumb drives that I have used regularly for years with no problems. I would avoid PNY and stick with the better brands.

The first time I used this zip item it corrupted everything I downloaded onto it. Im so happy I printed all my work before I downloaded it onto this drive

Im a fan of these PNY drives but lately they haven't worked for me. I purchased the128gb drive and I was uploading files to it and it just stopped working. It was my fault for not returning it on time.

If it's important to you, don't put it on this flash drive. I bought 2 of these at the same time. Less than a year later, one drive has gone completely bad and the other is starting to fail.
