This is an excellent addition to the Pokemon games.

When I first heard that they scrapped many of its core features to make it play like Pokemon GO to appeal to a casual audience, I was turned off. However, after giving this game a shot, I was surprised by how much fun I had despite of it all. Though the catching mechanics play like GO, there are still traditional battles against NPC's. Connectivity with other players isn't the best but still works. Although this game is missing core features from the main games, I think you'll still find enjoyment if you're a Pokemon fan.

great pokemon game remake, replay red blue again!!

I've been playing Pokemon since the initial Red and Blue release, and this game is a perfect introduction before Gen8 comes out in 2019. Not only that, but the added functionality with Pokemon Go makes this a great game for anyone that needs to free up box space in Pokemon Go but don't want to release their Pokemon.

This is my first Pokemon game and was surprised how really easy it is. Not something for a big challenge but fun for a relaxing time.

Being the 1st Pokemon game to launch on the Nintendo Switch, I pre-ordered the title and selected the Pokeball Plus Bundle since it was compatible with Pokemon Go. I was met with a mixed experience. The graphics were quite dated for a 2018 title. They were even worse than a PS2 game. Also, the core RPG mechanics of main series Pokemon Go games were simplified for newcomers to the series. No more battling wild pokemon, and you can feed your Pokemon rare candies (easily obtainable from Poke Ball Plus) to boost their stats even at a low level which makes the game much easier. The PokeBall Plus accessory was a major gimmick. It's rechargeable with a USB-C cable but there isn't much customization to it. It can only throw basic PokeBalls and only allows for a one-time catch per Pokemon. If a Pokemon breaks out of the ball, it'll automatically flee. It's also rather loud when trying to use it at work. The biggest disappointment of this title was the lack of utilizing the cloud save feature that most Switch titles use. I spent about 20 hours on this game before I invested in a Switch V2 with the longer battery life. This game along with Dragonball Heroes were the only two in my collection that didn't support the cloud save backup feature. Thankfully I didn't transfer any legendary or shiny Pokemon from Go otherwise they would've been forever lost. Overall, I'd recommend skipping the PokeBall Plus bundle and pick up the game alone, when it goes on sale.
