Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with Pokémon's engaging gameplay, captivating story, and expansive Wild Area. Many praise the game's ease of use and accessibility, while also enjoying the open-world exploration and additional downloadable content. Some players, however, found the game's challenge level to be too simple and expressed concerns about the number of Pokémon available and the overall amount of content. Despite these criticisms, the positive feedback on various aspects of the game is significant.

It's been a while since I've played a Pokemon game but Shield brings back a lot of the same elements and also new as well, from the previous games. The wild area is a great addition as you can roam around a open world to catch pokemon. There are also raids where you can join with a couple of your friends to battle pokemon!

Really enjoying the new game. It’s vastly different from previous generations and that’s a good thing. Sure not every single Pokémon is there to “catch em all” But even when I was a young trainer, I kinda knew I wasn’t going to fully complete the Pokédex when there was only 151. So to me, this game is very good. 8 out of 10!

You know what you're getting with this game. You're getting Pokemon. If you expected a big revamp to the pokemon formula with the huge increase in capability of the Switch compared to mobile consoles in the past, you're in disappointment. Similarly, a lot of features, pokemon, and mechanics have been inexplicably lost in the transition to home console. However, the game itself is fun. Don't get your expectations up and you'll have a good time. It is what it is, which is Pokemon.

    Disappointing Overall

Pokemon is inherently a fun series and this game definitely offers the classic Pokemon experience of catching and training Pokemon and collecting gym badges. I cannot deny that this is a fun game. However I was personally left disappointed overall because of the wasted potential. Training and catching pokemon has been streamlined due to exp share and being able to see pokemon in the wild which both lead to a much shorter game than other games in the series. I enjoy being able to see pokemon in the wild but I do wish that you could turn exp share off. As a result of exp share I finished the game and the end-game in under 25 hours with my entire party above level 70 and 200 pokemon in my Pokedex. It would have been nice to see more post-game content or just more content in the game in general. Ultimately though my biggest complaint is that this game feels so much like it was designed for the 3DS and not the Switch. The fixed camera is so frustrating for a console RPG and the game in general just feels cramped. There is also no voice acting which feels out of place during cutscenes. If you are wanting to play a Pokemon game on the switch I recommend picking up one of the Let's Go games over this one. As a side note I don't mind that you can't import every previous Pokemon into the game, I figured that would happen eventually and if a pokemon isn't already catchable in the game I wouldn't be transferring anything over anyway.

My feelings on this game are mixed. It's a Pokemon game it has almost everything you would expect from a Pokemon game. However the GTS system and the national dex are both missing and these were things I loved playing with in past entries. You have to endure an almost hour and a half tutorial before you can even start the game but once you finally free yourself the game picks up a bit. I like the new Pokemon and the wild area is an interesting addition. However the game has no real story to speak of the villainous team in this game is something of a joke. This kind of makes me sad because I was expecting at least a generic save the world story. It hits most of the check marks that will make a casual fan enjoy it. There are Pokemon to catch, places to explore, gym battles to win but it's not really a step up from what we had on 3DS aside from the visuals. I would argue it's a step back because the improved visuals make up for lacking the GTS and national dex. Though despite the visuals being improved they do not look like the best the Switch can do I have seen better in Breath of the Wild. I have mixed feelings on this game part of me likes it because it's a Pokemon game but the other half just feels there was a lot of lost potential here. Overall I recommend this for casual Pokemon fans who liked the Let's Go games but I think the more dedicated players will be a bit disappointed with so much missing.

Great game, really holds his interest. Find that he talks to his friends about all of the different moves he is able to make. He also likes the other titles that are in this line. It is for sure his go to game, and when his friends come over it is the first game that they reach for.

I'm much more for the journey of going on an adventure through the new regions, so in that regard I think this does the job admirably. Quite a few changes have been implemented that make quality of life much more convenient for players and I think this is a good step going forward for this long-running series.
