    For all the hype and fear, it's not the cut pokedex or bad graphics that disappoint me about this game. It's the lack of player agency in the "story." It breaks all the rules by telling us what's going on instead of letting us participate. On the plus side all the familiar addicting gameplay of past pokemon entries still exists, and raid battles with friends online are good fun, if a bit laggy. Music is alright, not the best in the series, but hits the right feels.

    The next generation Pokemon game feels like something we've all played before with a new coat of paint. The new monsters are generally of good design, but the lack of general improvements in the other areas of the game from Sun and Moon makes it feel more like a 3DS port with an extra $20 price tag than a leap onto a home console. If you enjoyed Pokemon before, you'll surely enjoy your journey through Galar but it'll also leave you wondering, was this the best they could do?
