Loved playing this game. Sort of short story but the fun of it adds up to it.

This is a great game. It is reminiscent of the old Pokémon games I used to play. Just started the game and I liked how the developers made the game to have pass friction for the user (e.g. instead of teaching Pidgey how to fly, you can just call a travel service to get you.) Highly recommend!

Entertaining game, love the detail and storyline. I do wish I could transfer all my pokémon from previous games but it doesn't have capacity for it just yet. I hope the next games can support the rest of the games from the Nintendo DS games. Aside from that... solid game.

This was a gift for my 20+ YO son who is a long time Pokémon fan. He has played for over 20 years and has every.single.game. He said this game is the best for graphics hands down and he has not put it down since he received it. It's hard being the best mom in the world but some has to do it.

I’ve played every single Pokémon game since I’m in junior hs, and they still somehow find ways to elevate the series to the next level. And that’s what’s done here, along with the recent two releases of dlc content, it’s the Pokémon game that keeps on giving!

This game had potential. I bought it to give it a chance, but I'm already disappointed. There's nice things about the game, but they don't justify the full $60 pricing. I'll get right into it: Pros: + Many quality of life improvements, like access to the boxes from anywhere, not just the PC. + New pokemon designs + New region and aesthetic taking inspiration from the UK as well as a sports theme + Cute minigames such as camping and cooking + New style of gym battling utilizing different minigames instead of the standard beat-up-trainers-in-a-maze + A new co-op feature called "raids" which can be done online + Wild Area--an extra way to feel connected to other players online, pick up treasure items and materials, and encounter strong pokemon + Customize your character Cons - A lot of connectivity issues. Sometimes your friends don't show up at all, even if they're fine on their end. There's some days you won't be able to connect to the server at all. The Wild Area also gets laggy - A lot of technical issues reported by other players. I recommend doing your research before getting this game, as it could brick your Switch console. - Game is too easy, not entirely by fault of the QOL improvements, but because they're just practically giving you all the health potions, level boosting items, and strong pokemon you need. Your team levels up quickly enough to beat the story at a faster pace. - Poor, inconsistent graphic quality. In some scenes, the textures and animations are okay, yet as you return to the overworld, you'll notice a lot of bad anti-aliasing (jagged lines!). Pokemon and human characters reuse a lot of the animations from the 3DS games, and seem to be missing some animations in general. There's a lot of pop-ins. Instead of moving naturally, they turn in static positions, rotating their entire model on an obvious axis. The ball toy teleports to their mouth, hands, feet or chest and stay seemingly glued there when they "catch" it. There's cutscenes when your character is giving a regular handshake, yet in the overworld their "handshake" is the default item-receiving animation. A lot of the world's textures such as trees and grass look like they're from a Gamecube game. These are just a few of many examples. - The game just looks bad half the time. Ugly gym uniform that you're stuck with. Ugly bike uniform that you're also stuck with every time you wanna travel faster, with only a few still-ugly recolor options to remedy it. Some towns and areas look lifeless, with just some NPCs sprinkled on. - Questionable, unintuitive design choices. Why is there a uniform shop that sells uniforms that CAN'T replace your gym uniform, right inside of the gym, with no mention of how it works? Why is the Pokedex missing some of the individual mon's information that used to be there in previous games? And I'm not talking about the dex cut. You can't fully rotate the pokemon model, there's no clues about their egg groups, and there's not much else cute data they could've added like foot prints, trainer-to-pokemon size comparisons, and friendly animations. You can't customize your bike uniform past the recolors. The male trainer has less haircut options than the female. Why does the Y-Comm feel so limited? You can no longer use the GTS, which was a way to wordlessly trade one pokemon away to a stranger for one you actually needed. It was faster and more efficient than setting up trades with the limited pool of people in your friend's list. Trading itself is a bit of a nightmare. They don't really explain how it works. The only way to link up is by setting up the same 4-digit code between two partners, but sometimes more than 2 people use the 4-digit code and get unwanted trade partners. You're not even given any prompt on who the trade partner is until after it starts, so you would have to fully back out and start over. Why couldn't we also have the older but more intuitive system of just starting up a trade from the friend's list? Why is there no friends list? There's also no customizable online profile. You just pick a 2D avatar and that's it. There's a lot I don't like about Y-Comm that wouldn't fit in this review. The only good things about it is the ability to leave it running in the background, and Wonder Trade staying in. - The story is rushed. I haven't beat the story yet, because I'm actively trying not to. The game railroads you through it, and you're not allowed to get higher level pokemon or access to any new area until you've beat the designated gym. I've heard from multiple friends and reviews that there's no post-game story or content outside of the battle tower, so I only have that to look forward to. You can't even get a rematch with the gym leaders, which would be forgiveable if they had any extra role in the game. But they don't. You meet them once, you fight, and never meet them again. - The whole game feels rushed, like there's content missing. Routes are limited and small, with little to no branching paths to explore. Towns and NPCs provide very little interaction. No post-game. Over 50% of pokemon cut from the game. Certain moves were also cut from the game. The Pokedex entries themselves seem limited, despite having a smaller pool of pokemon to work with than X and Y, a 3DS game. This game brought so many nice ideas to the table that simply weren't executed well. It needs more polish. If you really want to try this game, feel free. But get it on sale or from a friend. Don't buy directly from this company. The Pokemon Company and Gamefreak have no excuse for this unfinished product. As someone who's been playing the main games since Red and Blue, I hate giving a negative review, but I have to. Don't settle for less! Aim higher. I want to see an end to this franchise's declining quality.

loved the game and I was able to put into the game like 100+ hours already since buying it. If you don't beat the game right away and explore like I did, it will take you awhile. It's more better if you have the expansion pass as well.

This is my first game since Platinum so I don't know how it compares to more recent games, but this lives up to all of my nostalgia for the old games. The monster designs are great, the British characters are funny and the battling is pretty fun, though not too difficult for adults.

This game brought me back to the past. I remember playing Pokemon Diamond as a kid and other Pokemon games. When I started gaining interest in the switch, I knew this game is something I needed! I have not been disappointed at all with the game. Must have game for Pokemon fans!

This first switch entry in the mainline Pokemon rpg games has been received with lots of controversy. However, fear not, this game delivers what we’ve come to expect. In my opinion, the pros out weights the cons. Galar is a beautiful new region to explore and you won’t regret buying it!

I have been playing since Red/Blue/Yellow and I really loved this game. I like how it was still a traditional pokemon game but it intigrated some of the newer game play mechanics. I know not everyone will agree. But as a video game made for children, I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult.

I bought this game for my 7-year old son. He had a blast catching the Pokémon. I even bought him the pokeball controller so that he could feel more into the game. However he had some trouble with some of the gameplay. Setting and using the Pokémon items and abilities seemed a little difficult for him. But he is learning. I think if he was a little older he could pick it up quicker. But in all he enjoyed it. Pretty cool graphics as well!

Love the game overall, it’s definitely different from my last play with Pokémon! It’s also a lot easier than I expected, completing the Pokédex was normally challenging, but not in here. I’m not too sure how I feel about that yet.

The 8th generation Pokemon game is just simply fun. Even though it doesn't hold much substance as the previous generations, the gameplay is still simple and fun. Good for beginners of the Pokemon games.

Both my children love this game. My oldest is very picky - particularly about Pokemon games. He says this is one of the best ever Both agree that sword is preferable to shield. My only complaint is they play this game all the time! One child is 19 years old and the other is 16yo.
