Excellent new direction for the franchise

Pokemon Legends Archeus takes the Pokemon franchise in a fresh new direction, bringing it into the open-world genre of games. While it's not truly open it is expansive and really does feel like you have much more freedom. Visually and gameplay-wise it does look and feel like Pokemon's "Breath of the Wild" moment. From early on you can run out into the open fields, throw a Pokeball and either fight or attempt to catch Pokemon. Mounts are open pretty early in the game as well allowing you to reach terrain once unreachable earlier on. And while the visuals are a big upgrade over past entries, the gameplay has been refined in many new ways as well. It's now seemless battling and catching Pokemon without the need to have the typical battle animations. Also being able to gather resources and craft your own Pokeballs for the first time is a welcome addition. All around the game is more refined and feels like what Pokemon should have been working toward years ago. That said there are a few negatives, and I don't want to briefly mention the visuals. Most of the negative I have heard is on how plain the game can look in scenes. And while this is the case, at times, the game generally looks as good as Breath of the Wild. In all this is an really good game that most Pokemon fans should find to be a breath of fresh air in the series and hopefully a sign of what is to come in potentially a new series.

The buzz around Pokemon Legends: Arceus was obviously loud when this game was announced and this game lived up to the hype. The fuller, more explorable open world was a nice change of pace. The new catching mechanic is wonderful. I hope that The Pokemon Company continues in this direction. The only gripe that I had with this game was some of the graphics, but mostly it's a win!

This game is super chill. I love relaxing and playing this game after a long day of work. The story is simplistic and not really going to pushbthe envelope but that is fine. The exploration and traversal is satisfying. This is a much need departure from the tride and true pokemon formula. Highly reccomend this game to everyone looking to relax and turn their brain off for a while.

Still in early stages since I like to go back and catch the Alphas when I can. But this is a lot more fun and free than previous games. Open world and choices about side quest make it more engaging. I'd recommend it even if it's someone's first Pokemon Game. Actually might be better if it was, so no preconceived expectations about game play, because this is whole new experience.

A NEW POKEMON GAME!!! This one so far is very very interesting. It is totally open world with stuff to do everywhere. It is going to feel different cause there isn't a bunch of trainers like the past games and I so far havent come across any gyms yet. But all in all so far a great Pokemon game that every Pokemon fan should get!

Excellent formula to bring a breath of fresh air into a classic series. I've been playing Pokemon since the good game boy classic red version. They do change the lore we've known to fit the game play and there is definitely room for improvement. All in all decent story and more emphasis on catching them all. I've beat the game and am working on the post game story.

    Reinventing Pokemon

This is an awesome Pokemon game. Finally after years GameFreak has reinvented their old strategy of how to make Pokemon games. In this ome you finally get to free roam and explore the lands of Sinnoh from Diamond and Pearl in the past. While there aren't as many places to go, and the overworld is mainly nature, it works for the plot of the game is still plenty fun.

    Flawed but evolutionary.

Pokemon Legends Arceus is a game of two halves. One-half of the game is as evolutionary as the monsters within it. The other half is a game that falls short in its presentation. As a result these two halves often feel like they clash in jarring ways. For a franchise that makes billions each year? Game Freak has been rather slow in making its transition to HD game development. Sword and Shield were released to commercial success but the game was clearly lagging behind from a presentation standpoint. Unlike Sword/Shield, however? Arceus is the first time in a long while since perhaps "Let's GO" that it feels like Game Freak truly tried to implement new and fresh ideas. The pokemon here are found in the wild much like they were in the wild areas in SW/SH or in Let's Go. But they completely overhauled the very act of catching pokemon. And they did a bang-up job. The actual act of stalking these creatures and trying to catch them is fantastic courtesy of the new mechanics. It seems so obvious it's a wonder they didn't try it sooner. There is an elegance too in its simplicity. They stripped back a lot of the things that made older games feel a bit bloated. There are no online pokemon battles, though there is training. They clearly focused on the single-player experience here though there is some online interaction in retrieving players' satchels with items that reward merit points. Also pruned is the total move pool and no TM's or HM's. Instead, pokemon can learn and master various moves just by leveling. They can then choose agile and strong styles for those mastered moves. Since this is a game where you are creating the first Pokedex? Battling and catching the monsters contributes to research that helps to advance your "Star rank." Your star rank is a bit of a gate that unlocks better balls to use and craft. Speaking of crafting? Arceus has a pretty robust crafting system. You can craft a variety of pokeballs as well as healing items with stuff found in the wild. BotW could learn a thing or two from this. In addition, there are rides/mounts to help you get around the world which also serve to highlight where Arceus starts to fall short. The rides themselves are great. But due to the draw distance, it's quite common to see pokemon in the distance pop in at a significantly reduced frame rate. Arceus's world as a result looks a bit flat and devoid of topography that just pops in at a fast clip when riding these mounts. Other deficiencies include some lackluster and low-resolution textures. Arceus is a good step forward and offers a solid base. But hopefully, Game Freak is either given more time or resources (maybe even both) to help bring the presentation up to snuff to match the mechanics. Because I feel this is a positive evolution for the series. It just needs a third stage of evolution to get the rest of the way.

This is one of the best Pokemon games of all time. While you can't catch em all like in older games, there are still a ton of Pokemon around in open world environment to catch. And unlike Sword/Shield, the game does a good job justifying why all the Pokemon are not present. Some people call this the Breath of the Wild of Pokemon games. They're right.

Open zone exploration game where you catch and befriend pokemon. Work to complete the Pokédex and requests for villagers native to the region. A refreshing change of pace in the Pokemon franchise that I found to be very enjoyable and relaxing game to play.

If you like collecting pokemon and filling the Pokedex like in previous games but want the added Breath of the Wild open world with a bit more freedom than traditional Pokemon games then this will be a good fit. It has crafting and questing elements to it but to me the most entertaining thing so far has just been exploring and treating the game like exploring an unknown forest or lake region in real life. There are things here that fans of traditional Pokemon games may not enjoy or find lacking in comparison to Legends Arceus but at its core, it's a fun new experience in the Pokemon world.

Really fun gameplay! There’s a lot of fun things to do in this title. My favorite obviously being the new catching and battling mechanics. If you’re buying this for a sibling or child it’ll entertain no problem whatsoever. My biggest issue is that gamefreak needs to work harder on their titles and delay them if need be. The issue with that though is that anyone (myself included) will buy most things they put out. I’m excited to see the next entry in the LEGENDS series, hopefully with improved graphics and an actual open world instead of areas you fast travel to that are open world.

Pokémon Legends Arceus is an amazing addition to the Pokémon game titles. The game play is amazing and being an open world Pokémon game, allows you to interact with Pokémon better then any other Pokémon game previously. Overall this os one of the best Pokémon games to come out. Hopefully we see more Pokémon games with this style in the future.

This was my game back into Pokemon since Pokemon Go and Pokemon Pearl on the DS. Open world makes it more fun to see Pokemon that you can approach and battle. Story has a good mix of battling trainers, filling up your Pokedex, and battling Pokemon. Would highly recommend!

I've been playing Pokemon since the original Red and Blue and this game has been a joy to experience. They captured all the thrill of catching and battling Pokemon in the core series games and added an open-world and some much needed improvements to the overall experience. Any Pokemon fan will be sure to love it.
