I didn't expect to enjoy catching the pokemon as much as I did in this game. I can definitely see this mechanic coming up in further games!

This pokemon game is another great addition to the pokemon family of games. The first entry in the switch library is not a disappointment!

This game combines the best elements of Pokemon Go with the classic RPG. If you like either of those games, you'll like this one for sure.

This game is very fun and authentic to the original Pokémon. Great graphics too! Highly recommend spending the extra money on the guide!

So I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. The good: Like the old school yellow, Eevee follows you around and it’s cute. You also get a second Pokémon to follow you, too. You can dress up and pet Eevee and you get matching accessories. Riding Pokémon is cool and so far, no HMs to take up move space. I also like being able to see wild Pokémon in the map instead of having random encounters so I can see and deliberately pursue the ones I want. Updated graphics were fantastic, but I do wish there was a run option because movement on the map seems slow. The bad: the pokeball part is clunky. I play my switch generally as the handheld console and it’s clunky to put down the system to use the ball. The only way it really works is to use one controller, the pokeball, and the TV, but that’s not my play style and I don’t like that it’s not adaptable. You also get some of the starter Pokémon and other cool Pokémon by capturing so many Pokémon. Not different ones, though, so I feel like I have to linger in areas longer than I’d want. Eevee also doesn’t seem to evolve, and I have mixed feelings on that. The ugly: catching Pokémon is just like Pokémon go. You don’t battle them and you’re assigned points based on your throws. So good throws = better points but just having a nice/great/excellent throw won’t guarantee capture. You don’t get berries often enough to really be of help, and the exp you get seems to be randomly assigned to the whole team based on who’s closer to level ups, not who has the lowest level. The size bonuses for exp for capturing are nice, but not enough to offset the fact that I have to catch dozens of the same Pokémon over and over again (tedious). You also only battle trainers (no wild Pokémon) and there doesn’t seem to be an option to allow repeat battles (and like with catching, all exp goes to all Pokémon, but fighting Pokémon take a bigger share), so switching up your team is really stressful. I have Pokémon 10+ levels apart despite having that Pokémon participate in every battle. I feel penalized for changing out Pokémon because I caught a new one I like. Evolving Pokémon for your Pokédex is therefore a huge pain. I’d actually give this 2.5/5 stars. Interesting concept, but poor execution and seems catered only to Pokémon go fans and not traditional players (and I’m both). I found myself putting it down a lot out of boredom or annoyance. Go is fun because you’re on the move and it encourages you to move, but that system doesn’t work and isn’t fun for a traditional video game.

Watered Down For Modern Mobile Gaming

When I heard this was a remake of classic OG Red/Blue, I was interested having not touched Pokemon in a good 20 years. What I found was a watered down version of Pokemon Go essentially that punishes the second player for daring to enter the game. The second player does get to tag along for fights, and the world exploration, but more often than not if they're not paying attention will be left behind on the screen or despawn during cutscenes and bigger battles. When they do get to play, it's fun to an extent but gone are the random battles and the only time they shine is during a trainer fight. My thoughts are this is great for kids, but as an adult looking back; it's pretty barebones.

Really fun game. Based off the original 151 pokemon games, blue red and yellow. SUPER FUN. Very Nostalgic. However nothing new. graphics are gorgeous but as the game came out in what, like 98? nothing you haven't seen yet. Pokemon Fan must have.
