It's really easy to figure out what you're doing and what you should be working toward. A great introduction to the series. For returning players, The navigation and ease of life are huge improvements over previous games. Fast travel is actually fast. Seeing weather in areas before you get there. Overworld visible Pokemon. And the story is much lighter in this than in previous games, but is stil really good.

A proper Pokemon comes to Switch

Random encounters are back, the old catching mechanic is back. Some interesting new mechanics are thrown in which add another layer of depth to the experience. If you're a Pokemon fan who isn't outraged by the lack of a full National Dex or has an axe to grind with GameFreak, then this game will certainly give you that warm fuzzy feeling that comes from hunting the adorable pocket monsters and doing battle.

Great game, don't allow haters to change your mind

Graphics are great for the Switch, I understand the hate it gets for animation and older models used, but it's still a great game. See for yourself.
