I bought one of these last week for my bedroon TV (Samsung), and I'm a little disappointed with a couple of things. The subwoofer doesn't have enough volume and the bass control adjustment is very limited. Only a couple of dB and it really doesn't add much richness. The system will not work with your existing remote control, hence it doesn't come on with the TV and the volume can only be changed with the Polk remote. The voice boost is nothing more than a midrange/high end boost and detracts from the already weakish sound from the sub. You can't get into it via any means to do custom settings, and your TV settings for audio will have no impact. It sounds better than the tiny speaker in the TV itself, but it could be richer and fuller than it is. There's no way to preamplify the sub without getting into some serious electronic modifications that would involve disassembling the woofer box and adding a preamp and power supply. Now for $200 it's not awful, but I have a Klipsch 5.1 system on my Home Theater and the comparison is night and day. So is the cost. I also have an LG Soundbar/Subwoofer system on my den TV (Samsung) that originally cost less and far exceeds the performance of the Polk Signa S1. These have been discontinued and are no longer available. It learned the on/off command with my TV remote without programming, and the TV remote also adjusts the volume, which eliminates the need for two remotes as is the case with the Signa. I'll keep the Signa as it is OK and far less expensive than moving to a higher end product, but I expected a company like Polk to do a better job.

    Best Sound for the money

Picked up this sound bar yesterday and after listening to all of the display models, even the very expensive ones this sound bar for the price had the best sound quality, best range, and amazingly enough, you could hear the voices extremely well, which is why I needed a sound bar in the first place. The variable sound options to further enhance the voices vs background sound are great for those with difficulty hearing. For the price I don't think you can expect a better sound, not over powering but still very full sound range and exceptional for the price. No it isn't up to par with my def tech full surround sound system, but for a sound bar and stand alone wireless sub it is great sound, easily fills a large living room. This system is also very easy to set up and the remote, though small, works well.

I purchased a Polk Audio sound bar for my other TV about 5 years ago and it sounds just like new, have never had any issues with it. So when the receiver that was hooked up to my room TV died, I decided to change to a sound bar. I listened to all of the sound bars on the floor, even the more expensive Sony one, but in the end this Polk Audio unit beat them all. Hooked it up in my room and the sound is even more amazing. You can even control the voice/dialogue volume level with this one, which is a nice feature as the voice/dialogue volume is too low in some movies after they've been converted to DVD or digital. Setup was super smooth and easy, and it also looks cool. And the $180 price was the icing on the cake. I would recommend this to anyone!

I got the open-box Signa S1 for about $130. For the price I can't see how I could have done any better. I was pretty confused with all the reviews on this system and while I was awaiting delivery I was already planning to exchange it based on the number of negative reviews, but I am very glad I ordered the S1. The sound is AMAZING. Contrary to many reviews, the bass on my system is fantastic. The highs and mids from the soundbar are crystal clear and very dynamic and punchy. This system plain rocks. The reason I even ordered this unit over others was price, but also looks. I do think this soundbar unit and sub looks much more sleek and minimalist; I love the fabric look for the bedroom. I am using the 3.5mm mini jack as the connector to my TV. This way I can still use my Apple TV remote to control the volume. The optical connector outputs volume only at one level, and connecting via Bluetooth worked, but I didn't test it much as I could already hear the system power up and down depending on when it had signal (noticeable hum). I do have to power the unit on if I have not been watching TV for a while, but that is not as big a deal as others make it out to be. The volume on the system IS REMEMBERED when you turn it back on. I have set the bar to about 50% volume, and that allows me to adjust the volume on my TV to get the sound very quiet for night viewing, or very loud for family movie night. The night/voice/movie modes do exactly what they should, and do it very well. The blue and purple lights (blue for bluetooth, which I don't use anyway, and purple for special sound mode) are hard to see during the day, but I know which sound mode I just pressed the button for, so I don't really see it as a problem or a con. I am very pleased with the sound and sound options of this unit! Unless you get a defective unit, which I did not, you will very much be happy with this purchase!

I have mixed feeling about this sound bar. If you are looking for an intuitive sound bar with absolutely no visual instructions, no volume level, bass, treble or any way of knowing (and saving) your settings, this is the sound bar for you. This thing has 4 lights when powered up and besides the power on and blue-tooth lights I'm clueless what the other 2 are for. The manual is useless, it only gives quick set up instructions, doesn't go into any depth because there isn't any. It's the most basic sound bar I've come across. Even my 5 year old Samsung had volume control and different presets for audio. The remote will not pair with another remote so you always have to use it in addition to any universal remote you currently have. Polk's website is equally useless, it doesn't go into any more detail than the quick set up you get with the product. Sounds like a lot of negatives huh? Well it's saving grace is the audio produced is well above par to anything in it's class. Great bass, audio is clear and doesn't get muffled by other sounds. For 200 watts this thing rocks. The sound is absolutely 5 star. So, superior sound marred by way to basic functions. That's the only reason I'm removing one star. Get with it Polk.

Decent Sound But an Iffy Remote

It sounds okay for the price but I paid $140 in late July. Now, it's $199. I'm in an apartment. It's not the Bose soundbar or the Klipsch which I may get later and move this to the bedroom. It's weak point is the remote control. It's a small remote that runs on a single AAA battery and it seems very weak. I often have to move closer to the TV to get it to work, which is a hassle. It also turns itself off to quickly when you pause the TV. If you get a call while watching or pause for more than a few minutes, it shuts itself off. And there's a brief boot-up process before it's ready. This all may sound like nitpicking but it becomes irritating when you hit Play, realize there's no sound, get up off the couch to get close enough for the remote to work, wait for it to come on again, and then skip backwards to re-watch what you missed. And again, the sound is fine for $140 but for $199, I'd explore other options.

Great sounding system at Best Buy but when home and hooked up sounds even better! Pro: Easy hookup, comes with both hdmi and optical for plug n play. Position sub backwards toward a corner about 4-6" away from corner and the reverb makes it a perfect match for great sound. Con: Unable to use with roku for sound unless using the hdmi

Listened to this soundbar in the store before purchasing, it sounded OK. Got it home, setup was really easy. Connected to TV using an existing Monster Optical Cable, the sound that came for this device was outstanding, for the price you can't go wrong with purchasing this soundbar.
