Customers are saying

Customers commend the Portable Auto Friction Mount for its stability and ease of use, finding it holds their GPS devices securely and fits well. Many appreciate that it's easy to position and doesn't leave marks on the dashboard or windshield. However, some customers feel the price is high for what it offers and express concerns about the adhesive's ability to maintain a strong hold in all situations.

It grips and no slips! It seems that invariably the suction cup mounts fall from the windshield at the most inopportune times. This friction mount works as advertised and driving in South Florida is a grueling test of its quality. No slips here and no GPS dropping from your windshield into your lap while driving. Nice!

    There are Better Choices...

I own a couple of GPS units and bought one for my daughter. I really like the non-slip dash mounts because of the flexibility to put the GPS wherever you need to given the circumstances of the trip. When you leave the car, it's very simple to pick up the whole thing (GPS and mount) and hide them under the seat. As such, I bought this one for my daughter's new unit. I didn't do my homework and look at it ahead of time. It uses some sort of sticky material to stick to the dash rather than the non-sticky non-slip material found on other mounts. Buy the dash mount without the sticky base. This one picks up any dust/dirt/grime and forget about setting it on the floor unless your car is surgically clean...mine's not.

Best Portable Friction Mount Out Right Now

Living in CA its against the law to have your GPS mounted on the windshield. I own the first generation Garmin bean bag friction mount. I am quite impressed with the redesign. It's easy to set up, has a low profile, it's easy to store, and all for a great price. If you are looking for a portable friction mount, then look no further.

I travel for work and have bought several different mount systems. Most do not stay put. I would buy this one again without hesitation. It stays put and is easy to move

You know, Garmin should maybe just make accessories like this handy mount instead of GPS units. Smartphones have taken over as navigation helpers but the mounts are always a problem. This one is very well made and carries a rugged name. GARMIN! "We'll handle it!" could be a slogan, they could use.

    Best mount on the market

Excellent friction mount that I found to be a great value for the money. All previous mounts I've had left marks on my glass from the suction cup, or required adhesive. This mount does everything it's supposed to... easy to mount your GPS, and the gel on the bottom is tacky enough to avoid slippage but leaves zero residue. Only complaint: the base of the unit is a bit large and takes up a bit more space than I was expecting on the dashboard. However, it's still a smaller base than other friction mounts I've seen on the market, and it looks better as well. Overall, highly recommend.

I bought this because the windshield mount kept falling off and i didnt like how the bean bag looked it was too bulky. I was use to mounting my gps on the corner of the window so unlike everyone else mounting this in the middle of the dash this worked perfectly for my corner mount. the bottom of this mount has a rubbery feel where you're able to curve it the way you like so this fit perfectly in my lexus. i bought this before the sale ended, its nice but not worth the $40 plus pricetag

Solid if you have a flat-ish surface

This "mount" works great for the Garmin GPS unit I purchased (255WT). You'll need a flat part of your dashboard about the size of a CD, but it can have a few little curves. The heavy base bends and curves into the shape of your dash, and the bottom is made of a soft plastic non-slip surface. So once it is setting in place, its own weight keeps it in place. You will need to do the shaping with your hands before placing. I was expecting that it would mold into place by placing and pressing - not the case. However, the shaping process was easy and its not going anywhere. A great alternative to a suction-cup mount, which I just do not like.

    Perfect....

One of the few gadgets that actually worked. Its design is simple,, some sort of rubber stand,, that's heavy enough to support a Garmin GPS. Better than all those suction cups devices. It rarely moves, because its rubber and anti skid technology. But don't leave it on the dash in the hot hot sun,.,,, it will shed oils,,, you can polish them out but best not to leave it on the dash with out the AC running. But other than that it was a great design. I think I bought mine 10 years ago,,, from Amazon for less than 20 dollars... check around.

Great alternative to the default suction cups

    Posted .

This works great as an alternative to those suction cups that come default with any GPS. The suction cups often fall of the windshield, which can damage the GPS. This friction mount works well because it's fairly heavy/stable, won't fall over if you go over a bump, and allows for easy rotation of the GPS once mounted due to its ball-and-socket joint. Note that if you move the mount around a lot or place it on any surface that isn't clean, the bottom pad can start to pick up dust/lint, which may reduce the friction against the dashboard.

    Get off the windshield!

My garmin gps kept popping off of my windshield, sometimes when I was using it. With this mount, I was able to stop that from happening again. The base is mold able to fit the curve of the dash. I can position and reposition, or put it away if I don't need it.

This product does what it advertises it will do. I tried multiple times to get it to slide and it stayed right where it was placed. I do notice the Garmin shakes more than when I use the window mount however knowing that it will not fall off while I am going 65 miles an hour is worth the slightly vibration.

I think for alot of people it will come down to simple personal preference between this and the giant beanbag mount. Both are very rock solid and never slide on my Chevy Cruze's dashboard.

It grips dashboard surface very well and can be shaped to accommodate various shapes of the dashboard. The ball joint holds even over-sized unit very steadily. Could have been cheaper... as always. ;) I suspect that some might not like the appearance of the thing, as it is of a "decent" size, but it's a matter of prefference. I focus on usability and in my opinion, for a bigger GPS to be steady, you need a bigger mount like that. I highly recommend it.

Buy it, but only at Black Friday's rate. not $40. Pretty convenient. I hate how the sticky area catches a lot of lint, and over time it doesn't seem as appealing/sticky. Pretty good, got it so I could reach it easier and that I wouldn't get a ticket.

Garmin's suction cup windshield mount is terrible. This is a great alternative. Works fine (More streamline than their beanbag model) It is normally $45 but was on sale at Best Buy for $15 during Christmas. For that price it was a no brainer. If it goes on sale again I would highly recommend it!
