The system works similar to how you charge a cell phone. I brought this charging station back.

If you do not play as much I would think plugging it straight into the USB port of the PS4 when you aren't playing would suffice, but that is just a personal preference.

Works fine but wouldn't buy it again

It takes a lot of fumbling around before the controller docks and you can't see where the controller is in relation to the input. I wouldn't buy this product again.
