For some reason Nintendo controllers always wander up the left over time. Get the protection plan, and save the receipts. The protection plan is not unreasonable and when this breaks all I have to pay for is another plan on a need controller. I would rather pay $22 bucks ( 11 for the plan, and 11 for a new one plan for the new controller) than $70 for a contempt they will break again and again.
