Grip is more textured than the gray one that comes with the switch. The red plastic looks like a cheap toy but the black grip texture on the bottom feels solid.

I have the original one that came with my Switch, which I received years ago. While mine still works great, both my wife’s and my son’s have the left Joy-Con slip out constantly. They’re clearly defective. The box states they’re Nintendo licensed, but the product itself doesn’t indicate that. I’m not used to that.

There's a slight rubberized layer on part of it. Instead of a metal "rail" for connecting each Joy-Con, they are made of plastic. The shape and size is very slightly different as well. I got it on sale, so the price didn't sting as much as it would have otherwise I would only buy this if you have an additional pair of Joy-Cons and want another "controller" to use.
