The track that locks it is plastic where as the one that came with my switch was metal. That might be the difference but for 5$ or 9$ it is still worth it especially for kids that are most likely going to break them anyway.

I have the original one that came with my Switch, which I received years ago. While mine still works great, both my wife’s and my son’s have the left Joy-Con slip out constantly. They’re clearly defective. The box states they’re Nintendo licensed, but the product itself doesn’t indicate that. I’m not used to that.
