Customers are saying

Customers highly value the video and audio quality of the Wayfarer glasses, with many praising the excellent image and sound capabilities for calls and music. However, some users expressed concerns regarding the battery life, noting that it drains quickly when using the device's features extensively. The glasses' performance in video recording and photography was also highlighted positively. Improvements to battery longevity would enhance the overall user experience.

The evolution of sunglasses is here

Ray-Ban Meta Smart Wayfarer Bluetooth Audio Glasses – Matte Black/Polarized Gradient Graphite My Overall Impression Game changing sunglasses with some room for improvement. Fun product to use with lots of features. The evolution of sunglasses is here. What Worked Well *Look – These look just like a normal pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses with a polarized lens. The only thing that stands out to me are the LED and camera circles at the frame corners. *Variety – These sunglasses are offered with different lens colors and frame colors. If you want to get prescription lenses, that is an option as well through an optician’s office. *Fit – I have a narrow face, so I was concerned about how these would fit me. Would they be too big (wide)? The standard size worked really well for me, so I was pleasantly surprised. If you have a wider head, you may consider the Large Wayfarer size. You cannot adjust the frames like a normal pair of glasses. Bending the plastic will likely damage the frame or its internal components. *Charging Case – The sunglasses charge like your earbuds. Charge the carry case, and the case will charge the glass while inside. The case has a USB-C port in the bottom and a stand at the nose-piece that make contact with the glasses. It’s a slick looking case, and the case has a LED light to indicate the charge level. *Picture Quality – The camera is a 12 megapixel, so the pictures look crisp and have a lot of detail. I did notice that even when I was fairly close to an object (3-4 feet), the object still looked further away. You’ll want to be aware of your position in relation to the subject. Video footage is clear and has some stabilization built-in, so you don’t record a Blair Witch movie every time you use them. *Audio Quality – Outstanding. This was the biggest surprise for me. I do not like the feel of earbuds, so the open ear audio was a great alternative. The 5-speaker setup in these glasses is amazing. I think that they sound as good as my expensive earbuds, but they don’t have the awkward uncomfortable feeling. The spatial quality of the recorded video audio is astounding. It sounds exactly like what I hear while recording. Also, I assumed that everyone around me would hear the very adequate volume of my open ear speakers. Somehow that doesn’t happen. You may hear it a little while being in close proximity of the wearer, but it sounds like audio bleed from a headphone, and not a full-on concert. *Manual Controls – The right side arm has controls to pause/start music and adjust the volume. It’s a touch to pause/start. Volume adjustment is a touch and slide of the finger forward or backward to adjust the volume. I have some Sony over-the-ear headphones that use a similar control mechanism. *Voice Control – These sunglasses have their own AI, Hey Meta. You can use the AI to take pictures, take video, ask questions, send messages, and make phone calls. Using “Hey Meta”, you can trigger the voice command of your choice. It does respond to the trigger phrase well. *Charge Capacity – The battery life seems to be really good. Of course, these will last longer with music at lower levels, less video recording or picture taking, and fewer imports, so it’s hard to say what the single charge allowance is. I know that I used these for several days on and off, and the one charge of the case was adequate to make it through. The glasses tell you the battery level when you put them on. *Easy Setup – I had these sunglasses up and running in minutes. There’s a Meta View app to place on your phone, and you’ll connect them through Bluetooth. When you take photos and videos, you have to import them manually in the app. This can be a pain to have to do, but it also extends the battery life to not do it as you go. What Could Have Been Better *Charging Case – Sometimes it’s a little difficult to pull the sunglasses off of the charge stand in the case. Also, it doesn’t come with a USB cord, so you’ll have to provide that on your own. *Photo Lag – The sunglasses will make a sound when you take a photo. You need to remain still until the sound is complete before moving. Otherwise, you get a blurry photo. This makes it harder to take pictures while walking. *No Picture Adjustments – There’s no way to adjust how you take your picture. There’s no zoom or app feature, so you get whatever you actually see in its wide format. *Bass Level – These speakers sound like earbuds, not a ton of base. When you turn the volume up to the highest levels is when this is the most noticeable. It’s kind of expected since these have such tiny speakers. *LED Light – The LED light on the front of the sunglasses pulses when you take a picture. It also pulses the entire time you are videoing. I know that this is for transparency to show others that you are filming or taking a picture, but at the same time it’s pretty noticeable and kind of takes some of the coolness away from the product. There’s also no setting to adjust the outer LED. *AI is Underdeveloped – Hey Meta does not control 3rd party apps, so you have to get your phone out to change the song on Spotify. You can’t ask it to play some James Brown. Just doesn’t work like that. This should be one of the first things that gets upgraded through a firmware update. It’s a substantial miss for me. Also, the questions that Hey Meta can answer are limited. What’s on at the movie theater? I can’t answer that. At one point I asked it a question, and it said that it didn’t have that kind of information loaded after the year 2022. I found that response specific and very odd. Luckily, this is all stuff that can be upgraded if Meta wanted to put in the effort. *Video Recording Length – When I first got these, I wanted to watch and record my daughter’s entire soccer game. What I found out is that the glasses only record in up to one minute segments. Not what I had planned. This is another miss in my opinion. I’m not using these to make a TikTok video. I am trying to catch real life moments without living behind the camera on my phone. This should be upgraded. The glasses will upload a live feed through specific apps, but I am personally not interested in this particular feature. Final Conclusion I am giving the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Wayfarer Bluetooth Audio Glasses 4.5 stars officially. Best Buy’s rating scale won’t do half stars, so I have to bump down to 4. These sunglasses look nice, and are feature packed. It’s exciting to see all of this being worked into a pair of sunglasses. The AI development and video recording length limitation are my biggest complaints. Even with that these are fun to use, and I found them surprisingly cool.

Ray-Ban Meta Smart Sunglasses are a Game Changer!

Having had the original Ray-Ban Story smart sunglasses, I was excited to get the new Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarers. The original version are OK, but the new Meta model has completely blown my mind and changed the way I capture my surroundings and interact with mobile devices. And to top that off, they are a top-of-the-line Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses with polarized gradient lenses. On opening the box, Ray-Ban’s quality really shines through, with perfect finishes and high quality materials throughout. Although the glasses need to hold the speakers, cameras and microphones, at a glance you would never know the difference between a standard Wayfarer and the Meta Smart Wayfarer. All of the tech is perfectly designed into the frames and arms of the glasses. The other noticeable upgrade is the carry case/charging unit. It protects like a regular case but also features extra power for charging the glasses on the go and a USB-C charging port. The case provides approximately 8 additional full charges of the glasses before needing to be recharged itself. And it’s a supple leatherette material. For setup there is a quick start guide in the box and a QR code to download the Meta View App which walks through usage and features. All-in it took about 10-15 minutes to download the app, setup some of the options and start using the glasses. Features: Camera – the onboard camera is a whopping 12MP and boasts 5 microphones for recording videos or livestreaming. The camera is built into the frame of the glasses and is controlled by either a button on the top of the right arm or by using the Meta AI voice control. Pressing once on the button takes a still picture and pressing and holding the button will start and stop video recording. Alternatively with a quick “hey Meta”, the AI-powered voice controls will process the request to take a photo or video. Audio – this could be one of my favorite features as I really like the open-air speaker concept. This way I can listen to my favorite music or take a phone call and still be able to hear what is going on around me. Certainly there’s a place for noise canceling headphones to really block out the world, but usually I prefer to be somewhat aware of my surroundings, and these speakers allow for that. And they sound incredible, deep bass and crisp and clear sound even when really cranking up the volume. As with the camera, Meta AI can also control audio functions on these glasses. Controls – there are physical controls built into the glasses that include a power switch and touchpad. The touchpad is located on the right arm and can control the cameras, audio functions and phone/texting. Meta AI – this feature is so cool, you literally can run the glasses or your phone with simple commands starting with “Hey Meta”. Take total control of the camera and audio in a snap, but Meta AI will also provide weather updates, how to use the glasses and whole number of commands created through AI. It’s truly amazing to be able to walk down the street, answer a call or text, take a picture or livestream all without ever having to move a muscle! Meta View App – although the Ray-Ban Meta glasses do most of the heavy lifting, the Meta View app is kind of like the brain behind the scenes. It’s broken down into 4 main areas: home, media, Meta AI and device settings. Home is the area to learn and explore the glasses and different features and functionality. Media is the hub for all things for creating and posting to socials. It’s where you find your photos and videos, create montages, etc. share to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or Messenger. AI provides commands used or tried with Hey Meta so feedback can be provided to make the overall experience even better. All activity is also recorded here. And finally, settings, where all functions related to the glasses and app can be customized. Privacy – I like that Ray-Ban and Meta added the “in use” LED to let people know there’s a photo or video being taken. They also provide guidance on letting the general public know that the camera may be in use ahead of actually using it. These are meant to help connect to socials and support content creation, not for peeping! Overall Experience – The new Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are by far my new favorite piece of technology that just happens to also be a great pair of sunglasses! The technology is leading-edge, and the glasses are what you’d expect from an industry leader in Ray-Ban. They are functional as sunglasses and with “Hey Meta” hands free controls they are so easy to use and integrate into your everyday life. Way to go Ray-Ban and Meta! Pros: - Stunning quality Ray-Ban sunglasses, not to be overlooked with all the imbedded technology - All the imbedded technology! - Hey Meta hands-free voice commands - Quality pictures and videos with the 12MP camera - Meta View App and ease of integration with online social networks - Support for phone calls and texting hands-free - Carrying / charging case is stylish and adds hours of charging to the glasses - Good battery life even when using multiple functions over a period of time Cons: - No significant issues, so maybe it’s a bit awkward getting the glasses out of the case
