The perfect balance between mechanical and quiet

The keystrokes feel crisp and light like other mechanical keyboards but it's the most quiet keyboard I've ever used, even more quiet than most rubber-dome keyboards. The only key that makes any sound is the spacebar, and then even though there is a sound it's nothing that will keep someone awake, even if they are sleeping just a few feet away from the keyboard. Because of the mechanical feel along with the lack of noise, I'd say this keyboard could find a home in the office as well as at home on your gaming rig. No more disturbing the neighboring cubical when you're typing an email while slightly annoyed - the banging noises are GONE! The LED lighting isn't the brightest that I've seen, but supports the whole prism of colors as well as several software-defined lighting effects. This doesn't mean it's not great lighting though ! The included wrist-rest has a unique attachment method of using magnets instead of clips. In the past wrist-rests have broken for me - this should eliminate any problems like this in the future! Multimedia keys in the upper right corner have a pleasant tactile click to them without being noisy and the volume wheel a subtle notches for graduated volume adjustments without being free-rolling. I've tested quite a few mechanical keyboards over the past few years, but this one is my new favorite - great job Razer! The only thing I ask for on future models is USB pass-through connectivity.

I love the switches on this keyboard. Not too clicky but with the right amount of effort to press. It feels very crisp and responsive, I definitely type a little faster on this keyboard than other switches. I came from a G915 TKL to give you an idea, I also have a logitech G Pro, corsair K65, old cooler master with cherry browns, and more. I will likely end up using this at the office more than home because I do still prefer a TKL layout for gaming. The added media buttons are great, other than that nothing too special in terms of macro keys etc. The included wrist rest attaches via magnets to the base of the keyboard and it provides a nice feel and pretty good ergonomics. The keyboard has two different levels of tilt as well in terms of ergonomic adjustments, so there is a good chance you can find something you like. RGB on this keyboard looks nice, I unfortunately rather not install razor synapse on my PC so I will only be able to enjoy the out of the box pattern. Overall a great keyboard so far the only thing I cant speak to is durability or longevity. I don't have much experience with razor overall outside of this keyboard and a new basilisk v3 mouse, so far they feel high quality and like I said above they have fantastic feeling switches IMO.

I really love this keyboard. The one thing that strikes you right away is the sound dampening foam. Like it’s really dampened. You still get the response and feel but without the obnoxiously loud clacks you get from standard mechanical keyboards. It is perfect for those whom want the mechanical keyboard without the mechanical keyboard loudness. If you share a room and/or play late at night your housemates will thank you. The performance is really great. Its super fast and responsive for gaming and has great feel when typing feeling precise. I’m a sucker for full fat keyboards this keyboard is no exception. It has a great layout and the playback button and scroll is great. RGB is bright and super customizable to fit your taste and style. You are able to set macros and presets via the Razer Chroma or Synapse. The ergonomics are really good as well with the included magnetic wrist pad being a great and welcome addition. This is a great keyboard that gives you everything you need for gaming. But it will also won’t drive your family and coworkers nuts when you are typing a report or playing late at night.

Another Solid Keyboard, yet Nothing “New”

I own many Razer products, and they never disappoint. That said, this Razer Huntsman V2 Optical Gaming Keyboard, while maintaining Razer’s standard build quality and outstanding performance, my overall impression was ‘eh.’ There just wasn’t anything exemplary here, in my opinion. Unlike my current preferred gaming keyboard, the keystrokes for this Huntsman are ‘silent’, and I find myself missing that ‘clicky-clack’ of other switches. However, this difference isn’t a detriment or in any way a “downside.” In fact, with these linear optical switches being on the quiet side, using this keyboard in a room with other people or while listening to music, could be far less distracting. That said, the key presses were smooth. Just a simple, easy press. Very nice. No need for button mashing. During gameplay, the keyboard proved to be amazingly responsive. No lag or delay between the key press and the lightning fast instantaneous response on screen. Using the arrow or WASD keys to move my character, was so fluid, so effortless, as to almost feel as though I were in the game mirroring the steps of the character on screen. Activating spells, skills, abilities, and initiating attacks was basically flawless. The ergonomic wrist rest is covered with a nice material and made of very soft foam. I’ve never been inclined to use this feature for any keyboard I’ve owned. But it’s handy to have included. On the upper right side of the keyboard are media control buttons and a digital volume dial. Although I get that these are convenient, only the volume dial is useful to me, but the size puts me off. A detail I pay attention to when it comes to keyboards, is the underside and the placement and size of the ‘feet’, as well as, the cushioned pads. This Huntsman has sturdy, slightly larger than usual feet which makes the keyboard lean at (what to me is) an optimal elevated angle. And instead of just four pads, one in each corner on the bottom, there are two “extra” longer pads in the center. An added, more aesthetic detail, are the words - ‘For Gamers, By Gamers’ - embossed all across the underside of the keyboard, on a diagonal. It’s just a fun little extra. In order to get the most out of this Huntsman gaming keyboard, you will want to download the Razer Synapse and Cortex software. I’m very much partial to gaming peripherals (and PCs) that have fun and cool visual or light effects. With Synapse you can rebind the keys, assign macros, and customize the Razer Chroma RGB lighting. Razer Cortex allows you to personalize your gaming experience even more, including creating game profiles. Although my overall initial impression was “indifferent,” I feel confident recommending this Razer Huntsman V2 Gaming Keyboard. Cause it’s true - Razer creates gear for gamers.

This isn’t my first Razer keyboard, and definitely won’t be my last. This keyboard is very impressive, especially for a mechanical style gaming device. The size and lighting of the keyboard are very attractive. I also have the Razer Basilisk v3 mouse to pair with this keyboard, and I love how the colors match when fading and changing. This keyboard is quiet, like super quiet. Coming from a clickity clackity keyboard, which I do like btw, this was a bit of a big change for me…almost a strange environment adjustment for me. Not only do I use my keyboard for gaming but I use it for work as well. My computer is in my bedroom and when my S.O. is sleeping in bed, its nice to be able to work or game at stealth levels. I also do type pretty fast so I know it can get noisy on regular keyboards. Don’t let the lack of clackiness take away from its accuracy, so far its been great typing with. The mechanics of the keyboard are just as good (if not better) than my other one. I downloaded the Synapse software package which gives you a lot of customization options for your Razer devices. For one, you have control of your keyboards backlighting. By default, it paired my mouse and keyboard lighting up as I previously mentioned. Then you have the option to customize keyboard settings and remapping of keys. Too many options to go through, but you can open programs, change profiles (you can store up to 5 profiles based on your gaming or work needs), lighting options, have pre-set texts, or just simply disable the key. These options are great for RPG games, especially for ones like the remastered Diablo 2 that just came out. Not only are customizations endless, but its very ergonomic. I sit at my desk working for 8-9 hours a day, tons of typing, then after work I’m on my PC for gaming or random stuff, and my wrists and hands are very comfortable. The detachable palm rest is soft and supportive, it has a magnetic attachment to the keyboard so its simple to remove or add. Built-in audio control on the keyboard are a huge plus as well, including play/pause, back, forward, and mute/volume controls. I do wish there were additional USB ports on the keyboard like my other Razer, but its far from a deal breaker. Once you go for a backlit mechanical keyboard, you can’t go back. This is a great option for those who prefer a quieter experience, are serious gamers where customization is a bonus to your game play, and comfort for those who use a keyboard for long hours. Even if you have a laptop, this is a great option to enjoy a full size keyboard on a different level than the OEM ones.

I’m a big fan of Razer products and was thankful for the timing that this product came along as I was having issues with the USB port on my last keyboard and needed an upgrade. Right off the bat I found myself really liking the huntsman thanks to the dedicated media controls and fast response keys that are pretty much an essential with online gaming. The downloadable software gives you infinite levels of customization and I found it pretty easy to use. I experienced no issues with the large volume knob as some have reported online - everything works as expected. As these keys use a different design, you might want to be prepared for them not to be as “clicky” as other keyboards. I actually found this a positive since i used the same keyboard for both my work and gaming setup and i get called out on conference calls for multitasking because the last keyboard gave it away. This one is much quieter but if the clack clack sound is your thing you might want to look elsewhere. The only reason i dropped to a 4 is the lack of a USB port to plug in a mouse. It would have kept things cleaner on my desk and seems to be common with a lot of other gaming models. Overall I’d say the Huntsman is a solid buy if you’re a gamer and looking for a keyboard that is feature rich and infinitely programmable.

This keyboard is large and in charge! It's quality built and precision. I barely had to press the keys to get a response. Great for gaming, not the best for emails or anything work related. It felt like I was getting ahead of myself? It wasn't terrible, just will take a bit of getting used to. It's quieter than I expected as well. Love the media buttons and dial. The wrist rest is a nice touch as well. The synapse software is slow to load but it's a wonderful companion to the keyboard and so full featured! There's so many options to customize everything you could possibly want.

Great for Gaming - Okay for Writing

. Summary. Great mechanics for Gaming. Okay for typing. Outstanding in customization and lighting control. So so software. It doesn't get much more personal than a keyboard, and I suspect Huntsman V2 Full Size Wired Optical Gaming Keyboard is going to be one you love or hate. First off its a true gaming keyboard with incredible speed and no apparent lag (8000 Hz Polling). Those are key (pun intended). Gamers also want something that can take a beating in the heart of battle, yet be responsive to a whisper of a touch. Full points for construction. If gaming is what you want, you found it. This keyboard is almost retro in the size of the keys, the are huge with a lot of travel. But unlike the teletypes of decades ago, it actuates on the first touch. The travel is to let your fingers go wild. These are linear optical keys, so they are smooth. Some might not like that. I found it great for gaming, not my first choice for writing because of the travel. But then there are the built in function keys, no I am not talking about the standard ones that everyone has (well almost everyone) I mean the volume dial and media keys too. You get spoiled by them. Speaking of keys there is built in sound dampening so as gaming keyboards go, it's fairly quiet. Not as quiet as my membrane keyboard though. The set up was okay, Razer isn't winning awards with their Synapse software. Takes a while to load. But it gets the job done and allows for almost infinite customization. The keyboard is surprisingly ergonomic.. no strain using it and it has built in magnetic lock wrist pad. I do worry about the long term survival of the wrist pad. The rest of the construction could work as a decent club (don't do it). I am rating this keyboard as a gaming keyboard where it is a solid 5, even at its price. As a keyboard for writing? A 4.

As an avid gamer who values both precision and longevity in peripherals, I've had the pleasure of extensively testing the Razer Huntsman V2 Full Size Wired Optical Red Linear Switch Gaming Keyboard. This sleek and responsive keyboard offers a seamless gaming experience, thanks in large part to its red linear switches, known for their quiet operation and remarkable durability. One of the standout features of the Huntsman V2 is undoubtedly its red linear switches. Unlike tactile or clicky switches, linear switches like those found in the Huntsman V2 offer a smooth keystroke without any tactile feedback or audible click. This makes them ideal for gamers who prioritize swift, uninterrupted keystrokes without the distraction of noise or resistance. The quiet operation of the red linear switches is a game-changer for those who prefer a more discreet gaming setup. Whether you're gaming late into the night or participating in intense multiplayer matches where focus is key, the Huntsman V2 ensures that your keyboard won't be a source of distraction or disturbance to others. No doubt that the Huntsman V2 is on the high end of the price scale, but this keyboard is impressive. Razer analog optical switches function smoothly and are pretty quiet, especially for a mechanical keyboard. The Doubleshot PBT keycaps feel good and offer a nice textured feel. The volume controls are good and media keys can be customized as well. The magnetic, wrist pad is quite comfortable and hopefully the leatherette material will prove durable over time. Razer Chroma RGB is just exceptional in offering per-key lighting and a perimeter underglow that includes the wrist pad. The Razer Synapse software allows a lot of customization options and the RGB effects are quite cool. You’ll find the Huntsman V2 to be responsive, highly customizable and the build quality is evident in the feel of the keys and the impressive visuals of the Chroma RGB. Add in the Razer Basilisk V3 mouse and the pair offer comfortable use over an extended period with an awesome Chroma RGB impact.

This is a great gaming keyboard. It’s quiet, highly customizable, responsive, and honestly has everything you need at your fingertips. Through the Razer Synapse app software that you can download, you can literally customize every single aspect of the keyboard that it’s almost overwhelming, but so appreciated and needed. From the colors, that toy can sync with other Razer products like gaming mouse, to what the keys do. What I like the most and have found SO helpful is the sound dial on the keyboard. It’s so convenient and since there can be differences in sound levels from game to game, or voice chat having it right there where you really don’t have to do much to access it great. The keys are responsive and honestly I don’t have any cons. It’s a solid keyboard and another great Razer product. You don’t be disappointed.

The V2 has come at perfect time. My old Razer keyboard was of the "clickity-clack" mechanical type. At first I loved to hear the sound "feedback", if you will. But I got sick of it. The V2 is like a gun that has had a silencer put on it. The "tactile" feedback is still there, but virtually NOTHING auditory! The keyboard itself is solid. It doesn't feel like it would break even if put in a backpack. The cord is super long (thank you razer!). This is important to me because my tower is quite a distance away from my "pull out" glass keyboard/mouse tray. Speaking of the cord, it is the un-kinkable braided cloth type that Razer owners have come to know and love. To me it looks much better than some plastic wire. The keys themselves are normally spaced. As in, this isn't some "squished" compact keyboard. All the keys have a coating that has a granular type feel to them. This also is good for those of us that don't need to look at the keyboard to type. We thus rely on muscle memory of where the keys are. Also the keys have a Razer sound dampening technology that is legit. I couldn't believe how quiet it was a first. Even if you are gaming and just obliterating the keys on it, or if you are banging out a paper at 70WPM, this thing is basically silent. An added bonus to this technology is each key-depression feels also like it's padded. I definitely like that as well, less fatigue during long gaming sessions a/o normal typing/general activities. Above the numeric keypad are 3 "Media" button and a scrollable wheel which I use for media. It is so much better than having to go back into the app to change the volume. Being an RGB keyboard, you can have endless fun (as I have) using the Razer app to customize the colors. You can use their presets (Like fire, breathing, etc) or you can mix/match between them OR create your own static setting. What I have personally done is assign each "zone" a different color (number keys are dark blue/F keys are red/etc) just for aesthetics this makes the keyboard awesome to look at and admire from afar. This review is mostly rambling. But with me that is usually a good thing. I can't think of one negative thing to say. I even dig the padded wrist rest that magnetically (cool!) attaches to the bottom of the keyboard! No more sore wrists! If you are in the market for a quality gaming keyboard - you can't go wrong with the huntsman v2. It is, in my opinion, the "best of the best". Razer has proven themselves to be a quality company with quality products.

The wrist guard was comfortable, even after playing and working for 8 hrs. Typing was smooth and very responsive, its a very quiet keyboard compared to my other gaming keyboards. The new Huntsman v2 is another excellent gaming keyboard from Razer. It possesses all the hallmarks of a great keyboard: solid build, great keycaps, and wonderfully tactile response. Pros: - Well built - Responsive linear optical switches - Media controls with volume dial - Individual key lighting and highly customizable through Synapse software Cons - Key lighting is uneven - Key actuation is a bit stiff and has a soft bottom stop Other - Pretty quiet key action for a gaming keyboard due to foam dampening Overall, the Razer Huntsman v2 is a solid, top tier gaming keyboard. The key actuation might take some getting used to though as it is very different from the popular Cherry MX switch feel. That said it easily competes among the best from competing brands and should be on your short list of gaming keyboards especially if you are looking for something with a little quieter click.

I am no stranger to mechanical gaming keyboards. I have had at least a dozen over the years, all different brands and switch types. My favorite switch for an all-in-one are brown switches. This gives me the tactile bump for typing, and the silence for gaming. My least favorite switches historically have been red/linear switches. I constantly hit keys I can't even feel because there's no sound or feel to it. While my Huntsman V2 keyboard has the linear optical switches, typing on them is the best "red switch" experience I have ever had. I think the keys feel a bit heavier than normal linear switches, so I have no encountered any issues with accidental keystrokes. I can type on this board completely normally, while having the fast/smooth action of a linear switch for gaming. The biggest thing that stands out to me with this board is the sound. They added dampening foam on the switch plate. What you get a solid yet dull thump. No tininess, no rattles, no squeaks. Just a solid thump thump thump with every keystroke. It's not loud or annoying at all, it's quite satisfying without being loud. The RGB lighting is as expected, and is implemented well. Key caps appear to be standard MX style keycaps, though I haven't tried any other caps to test. The Razer software is awesome. I've used most other peripheral/rgb management apps from other manufacturers, and I have to say the Razer software is one of the smoothest experiences I've had. It's easy to navigate, easy to change settings, and it just works. It's a breath of fresh air after using other cumbersome management apps in the past. Overall this keyboard has been a joy to use, build quality is rock solid, the software is great, and I finally found a linear switch I can actually TYPE on. Highly recommend, especially if you are already a fan of Razer products, or are looking to try something new.

optical switch, quieter, but not as crisp keys

If you're looking at a keyboard at this price point, I'm going to assume you are already aware of the company Razer and their overall products. To summarize, Razer is probably the most well-known gaming peripheral company, and their reputation is backed by a strong consistent showing of quality products. This Huntsman V2 is their minimized version with the 10 num pad. As some gamers for ergonomics will prefer to use a dedicated num pad that can be placed. So, to start off, the keyboard is probably a lot smaller than you're used to seeing for full size keyboards. The 8000Hz refresh means the keyboard is checking for input at a ridiculous rate of 8000 times/sec. That pretty much means that your key clicks will be logged instantly, meaning less latency. Most gaming keyboards offer 4000Hz. So, to be honest, I didn't notice a difference from my other gaming keyboard, but I also don't play at an international competitive level. The keys. I'm torn. I love mechanical keyboards, but sometimes that mechanical clicking can be really really loud. The V2 uses silicon dampeners to combat this. Effective at reducing noise. But the tradeoff is that the keypress feels "mushy" for lack of a better term. Definitely lose that crisp click/clack. So it does what it was intended, but I guess I'm not sure that I'm completely happy with the tradeoff. This is highly subjective, so depends on your preference, whether you prefer the tactile click with louder noise, or a softer press while losing the click. The Razer software lets you control macros, color schemes on the lighting, lighting patterns, etc. It's really really robust. As stated, the functionality is amazing, and in a very small footprint. The decision to be made is whether you want the mechanical click or a quieter press with softer travel.

Many of the features are of course listed on the box, but a lot of the time you can't really get a good feel for them until you try it out for yourself. Things such as the sound dampening for the keystrokes. It's remarkably quiet, yet the keystrokes are precise and snappy, and I was expecting to still hear the clickety-clack often associated with gaming keyboards. The chroma system is customizable with a number or different preset patterns, and I took quite a while in setup just getting that to wear I wanted it. One of the coolest features is the armrest--it came as a separate piece, and I wasn't initially sure how to connect it, only to learn that it does so magnetically, and that was quite a treat. The manual does leave a bit to be desired, as it points out a number of functions on the keyboard but has no instructions on their use. Not enough of a negative to bring the review down, however.
