More channels received than expected

We don't have cable at home. We recently received a free TV that needs an antenna so we could received decent signal. This RCA indoor antenna did a good job of receiving great signal. I have the TV in the 2nd floor of the house. The antenna is close to the window. We received more channels than the TV we have downstairs...more channels which we haven't had before. The reception that we get is great. I guess getting the best reception depends on where the device (TV and antenna) is placed.
