Easy to Use, but Note to Roku Stick Users

If you are looking to get this remote to use with a Roku stick, first you’ll need to make sure that your TV can control the Roku stick via CEC. This is a special mode that allows your TV to send signals to the Roku stick through the HDMI port for control. Even if your TV does have CEC mode, like mine does, it doesn’t mean that the TV can definitely control the Roku. After working on the settings, I found that my Vizio cannot control the Roku Stick via CEC and thus, I can’t use the universal remote to control it. While that means I can’t consolidate all of my remotes into one, at least I now have a means to cut down the amount of remotes to two. My original problem was that I had to use three separate remotes. The Roku Stick remote could control the TV volume before I got a Bose soundbar. When I connected the Bose, I found the only way I could control its volume was through its provided remote. I use an optical connection for it, so I can’t use the TV to control the volume of the Bose. The Roku Stick remote can turn the Vizio TV on and off, but it doesn’t have a button to change inputs on the TV. Now, even if I still have to use the Roku Stick remote, I can use the universal remote to control the TV to switch between inputs and control the volume. This is also great because the Vizio remote is really buggy. The universal remote seems sturdier and button presses relay commands better. On the Vizio’s original remote, I have to constantly keep hitting the button I want until the TV is able to receive the command. Setup of the universal remote was simple. I was able to use the auto code detect feature to configure it to use with my TV. The Bose soundbar resisted auto detect, so I used the manual code entry and it worked easily. I like that it’s rechargeable and that its charge will hold for a long period of time. (The product description states that the charge should last for 6 months, but we’ll see. Seems like nothing lasts as long as they’re rated for.) At least, if I don’t have to charge it for a month or two, I’ll be happy.

When I got this remote it made me realize how we went from a gazillion devices connected to the television to now only a few. This particular universal remote can connect to 3 device which at first you would think that that might not suffice, but the truth is most of us has consolidated our entertainment devices. 3 devices was perfect for me. Unboxing I was astonished at how small and light this unit is. I have regular size hands and it felt very comfortable and after some use, I really appreciated that I could hold it and be able reach most buttons with my thumbs. I really love that this unit is a rechargeable remote with no batteries to fiddle with. If you're like me, you've dropped your remotes and had the cover pop off and the batteries go flying every where, and at my age, stooping under the sofa's to look for those tiny batteries was no fun. That in itself is worth the money for this unit. LOL. Following the instruction and programming the remote is quite easy, although using the different icon as numbers took constant looking at the number than the instructions book. It was a pain, but hey, I gotta only do it once. My house isn't very big so I had no problems with the remote not working from any distance. So far, I'm loving this remote.

RCA Universal Streaming Remote does the Job!!

The RCA Universal Streaming Rechargable Remote is small but packs a big punch when it comes to operating multi devices. Charging the remote for first time use was quick. The instructions and steps to start programing devices is quick and easy. I programed my Hisence SmartTV first by turning off device manually and pressing the TV button located at the top of the remote until you get a red light. The next step is to punch in the corresponding code for your device using the keys in the middle of the remote as numbers. I programed my Hisence SmartTV using the first code listed. My next two devices were my Roku Ultra Streaming device and my Polk Soundbar. I was so amazed at how effortless the RCA Universal Streaming Remote was able to recognize my devices. I can even switch between my Roku Ultra and FireTV streaming devices from inputs on SmartTV without any problem. The RCA remote also features Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu and YouTube buttons for quick access. The RCA Universal Remote replaces 4 different remotes that I was using to operate my SmartTV. I am still finding useful tips and the RCA Remote being rechargable is a big bonus. I just plug the rechargable remote in the USB slot on the back of my SmartTV.

    Upgrade over Roku Remote

First off let me lead with a PSA. This does not work with Chromecast with Google TV. This is important, it works with many other streaming devices. The Chromecast remotes are Bluetooth based and this will not work with the hardware. Fortunately, I am not tied to one preferred streaming device. Enter my Roku collection! We have a Roku TV made by Hisense in the bedroom. My wife likes to lose, sleep on, or just plain hog the Roku remote. I usually rely on my phone and using the Roku app to connect to the TV. Unfortunately sometimes this does not work because there is an odd glitch that happens with the app and TV where they won't connect, usually requiring the TV, phone or both to be rebooted. Far from optimal. Enter the RCA remote. The original plan was to use with the living room TV and soundbar that has a Chromecast connected to it. If you missed it, this does not work with Chromecast. The backup plan was to use as a second remote in the bedroom with the Roku TV. Setting up was pretty easy if you have ever programmed a remote before. I absolutely despise the automated programming, inevitably you sit there for 15 minutes and have to do manual anyhow. Entering the code is pretty easy, the instructions have the number conversion to the keypad buttons. There is also a long list of devices this remote can control. Programming, after finding the code, took about 30 seconds. Every button works as expected. Charging is pretty quick also, I was not expecting rapid charge. The remote recharges with a USB type C connection. There is a cable included. We have a USB port on our bedside lamps that I can use to charge the remote, or just use my phone charger while I am away from the bedroom. Charges are said to last 30 days, obviously depending one use and how often it finds the crevice in the couch or bed. The buttons are very responsive. The round navigation 'dial' has a satisfying click to it somewhere between a keyboard and a mechanical keyboard. It makes me think of my grandfather calling his remote the clicker. Overall, I really like the remote. It is a huge upgrade over the Roku remote. It gives just enough extra without making it too much extra that it makes the upgrade worth it. I like the layout and on the face it is about the same size as the Roku. In depth it is a lot thinner. Not having to worry about batteries is another bonus.

    Rechargeable remote control

This remote remotes as a remote should. It does what you would expect for my simple needs and does it well. I don't use all the features as I only needed a TV remote replacement. I like the price, and it was easy to program. My only complaint is that the rechargeable battery is charged by USB cable. That means when it loses its power, I have to take it over and plug it in to recharge and I am left without a remote in the meantime. Some king of charge indicator would be nice. Hence only 4 stars.

    Solid Remote

This RCA remote is a solid, functional universal remote. It controls up to three devices. I use it to control our bedroom TV and Roku. I appreciate that it works well with the Roku; I can't say that about some other basic universal remotes. It is rechargable, so no need to keep replacing batteries. It charges fairly quickly via USB-C. That's convenient for us because we already have several USB-C charging cables in the room. Setup was simple and fairly quick. This is a basic control, which is fine for how I'm using it. I would not recommend this remote or others like it for use with a primary home entertainment system. That is not what it is designed for. My only complaint about my intended use for it is that backlit keys would have been very helpful. I may end up swapping it to a different TV in the house as a result. But we don't tend to watch TV in total darkness, either, so still thinking about that one. In short, it is easy to set up and works well. It would benefit from backlit keys, but otherwise is a very good option for a basic remote.

The remote good quality and easy to set up. The remote is rechargeable and saves you the trouble of changing batteries, and so far I haven't had to charge it. I used it on a Samsung QLED smart TV to replace the original remote that died. It says it works for all major brands, and has a pretty extensive list of devices, and the codes to program it, along with easy to follow instructions for set up. 5 Stars easy for me. It is an excellent purchase all around.

The RCA Rechargeable 3-device universal remote is a useful product that delivers as advertised. It does, however, have some cons that make me waver on my full support. If you want a rechargeable remote that will control your television and newer model auxiliary devices, then this (remote) is a great inexpensive choice. I primarily wanted this RCA Rechargeable 3-device universal remote for the television in our bedroom. It is a 2006 model Sony Bravia that we use a first generation Xbox One and 2019 Samsung sound bar on. We lost the original years ago, and I was excited to have a new working universal remote that would operate our TV and our Xbox. Out of the box, I let the remote charge overnight, then using the instructional foldouts, I was able to navigate the confusing gambit of processes to get our television connected. I did struggle with the original version of the Xbox One to the point that I just gave up trying. My son has a newer Xbox Series S, and the codes did allow for connectivity. I have not reached out for assistance and almost certainly will not since it did connect to an iteration in the Xbox family, just not the oldest version. Past that point, the RCA Rechargeable 3-device universal remote is able to connect to digital media streaming apps and works as advertised. This remote does exactly what it is supposed to do, and I will not say anything less. The cons I have that made me pull a couple of stars away are ease of use and quality of build. First, the weight and size of the remote are extremely light and small in stature. I feel like I am going to eventually break it or more likely just lose it. I am sure this is a muscle memory deal because all remotes are probably this light; just the batteries make it feel better in your hand. Next, the setup is so silly that it is almost hard, so much so that I cannot imagine my spouse being able to successfully program anything. The manuals are just little foldouts that are annoying, I would have liked to have seen a pamphlet-style booklet that I have received from other RCA universal remotes in the past. Then the remote does not have the numerical numbers 1 – 9 physically labeled on the controller. To enter the guide number, you must play a game of looking at the number and then what that number corresponds to on the controller buttons. After a while, I was able to familiarize myself with this enough that I did not have to look when setting up our bedroom electronics. However, a couple of days later, when I connected other devices for testing purposes. I had to play the game again because I had already forgotten the layout. I just do not understand why they would choose to omit the number labeling on the controller. Again, this remote is good, and I would recommend it. I would just make sure whom I recommended it to, was capable of programming it.

Small rechargeable remote control - 3 devices

I've yet to find the perfect remote control that will control all three of my devices (TV, audio receiver and Roku) and be easy to use. Though I keep trying. This RCA remote control is good because it's rechargeable, no batteries needed. Just plug it into a USB on a computer or power strip every once in a while with the included cable and it will stay charged. It's a fairly small remote, maybe a bit too small and light. It's five and a half inches long and an inch and a half wide. It is only half an inch thick. It has a TV button and a button meant for cable boxes or streamers. There's no dedicated button for audio equipment, you have to push two different buttons simultaneously to access audio, which is not ideal. The buttons are also fairly small and close together, which complicates things if you have large fingers or are trying to use it in the dark. It is not backlit, which can also be an issue. I was able to program my Samsung TV very easily with the codes provided in the instruction materials. The same with my Roku, but not with my Denon audio receiver. I tried all the codes provided, none of them worked. You can also do the auto-programming, where it tries all the various codes available, but it still wouldn't program the audio receiver. I looked around on the RCA website and other sites for any additional help, but wasn't ever able to get it programmed. I may use the remote in a different room where it works with all the equipment or maybe try a soundbar instead of my audio receiver in the living room.

Not so good of a universal remote

The RCA Rechargeable 3-Device Universal Remote is a remote that can be used to pair up to three devices. Instead of using three separate remotes, you’ll only have to use one single remote. The remote sounds promising but didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. It was somewhat of a pain to setup and not user friendly at all. I’ve paired universal remotes that are much older, and they worked just fine. I was able to get my TV paired up daily well, as well as my Apple TV. It fell short when trying to pair the LG sounder bar I have. It accepted the code, but it failed to do anything else after that. I wasn’t able to get the auto code feature to work on all of my devices. I wish this remote had number keys. When you have to enter the numeric numbers, you have to look at the diagram from the user manual to see which button corresponds with the number you’re trying to enter. Be sure not to lose your manual, as it will be quite the challenge to remember which keys to press for most people. It has shortcut keys for Netflix and Disney Plus. Perhaps it works with other media devices, but I had no luck trying to get it to work with my Apple TV, if it’s even supported. Overall, I’m not too thrilled on this universal remote.

I am very pleased with my new remote.. no batteries you just charge it like you would a phone! It was very easy to learn and set up. But the best part of my purchase was the customer service that I got. So thoughtful and helpful and as I am elderly I must say he was very patient! Way to go Best Buy!!
