I'll be honest, it starts up VERY slow. It's slow, so many different things are thrown at you at once...I have to wear certain clothes, I have to shave, I have to bath, I have to do this and that. Now that I'm past the initial parts of the game and I know what to do and have a good grasp of the game I am really enjoying it. There is always something to do away from the story, hunting, fishing, stealing, etc. But like I said, if it seems slow at first just push through and you'll begin to love the game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4 is an absolute masterpiece! The graphics are jaw-dropping—every sunset, storm, and mountain feels alive. Gameplay is smooth, immersive, and endlessly engaging. But the real magic lies in its world and characters—deep, emotional, and unforgettable. It’s not just a game; it’s an epic, cinematic experience. A must-play!

It's so easy to get distracted in this game because it's so darn pretty, some of the best environmental effects I've ever seen, and arguably the best-looking game ever released for consoles. Plenty to do outside of the main story and you can play it as a "good guy" or "bad guy" however you please. The online portion is still in Beta at the writing of this review so it's not a factor in my rating, but if the previous RDR title is any indication, it should be very solid.

I was a huge of the first Red Dead Redemption game, where I played it numerous times on both my Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 many years back. With the wonder of backward compatibility offered by Microsoft and Xbox One X, I played the original version of Red Dead Redemption with enhanced visuals thanks to the Xbox One X. The vast world of the west is vast and its characters are interesting to say the least. The protagonist John Marston was multilayered and well written. Going on adventures with Marston was a blast. Enter Red Dead Redemption 2 and the story of Arthur Morgan—a gunslinging cowboy and right-hand man to gang leader Dutch Van Derlind. Fans of the first Red Dead Redemption should recognize that name as well as welcomed addition of a young John Marston. This game is a prequel to first acclaimed game by Rockstar and occurs before the events of Red Dead Redemption 1. The world is vast, as players will get the opportunity to roam freely through a large portion of a fictional city of America and the Wild West and Mexico. Game mechanics have changed and players have to consume food to stay alive, use game currency to buy new horses, guns, supplies, and clothes. The length of the campaign is pretty long and expect to play over 100 hours plus. The online portion of red dead online can be compared to that of Grand Theft Auto’s online campaigns, where players can play online with other players. Overall, this is a must purchase for any fan of Rockstar games.

OK, I get it, the game has a very slow start. It's hard to appreciate the deliberate pace coming from God of War, Spider-Man and Assassin's Creed. In fact, by the end of Chapter 1 and the beginning of Chapter 2 I came very close to returning the game altogether. I came within minutes of dozing off, controller in hand. HOWEVER, I am SO glad I stuck with it. When the world became overwhelming I did a bit of research (Google lol) and got through soem not well-explained aspects of the game, but the main and side quests are exciting, suspenseful and so diverse. I never felt like it was too repetitive. I also found myself enjoying doing things outside of the main missions like riding around on my trusty steed, hunting, robbing random folks sitting next to campfires, throwing people off carriages and holding trains hostage. The world is your oyster here! Moral of the story? Throw your morals out the window :) Have some fun, don't get too overwhelmed, don't be afraid to explore and break some in-game "rules" and see what's waiting for you!

This game has been a long time coming and it was worth the wait. I enjoyed the original Red Dead Redemption back in 2010 but I had to play in increments to prevent myself from getting bored while wondering around. In RDR2, there isn't boredom, there's adventure when you want it and serenity when you want some downtime. The story starts off with a gradual pace but after Chapter III, it really gets going. With each new area discovered on the map, I was amazed to see what the new town or cities held for me in my Western adventure. And the details! I implore the player to savor the littlest details that a lot of people might take for granted. The displacement of mud and snow around your feet as you walk, the dried blood that stains your hands and or clothing upon hunting or getting into a fight with another bandit really needs to be seen. When a thunderstorm rolls in, you will set up a tent just to take in the wonderful sounds of the rain pounding on the tent fabric as lightning flashes in the distance. The soundtrack changes pace depending on what is occurring around you which makes you feel like you are n the most epic western story ever. There are some issues like the somewhat clunky controls but I suggest you go into the settings and calibrate them to your liking. There is also the issue with the HDR but currently I am playing on my PS4 Pro with the HDR turned off until Rockstar updates the game as they have promised. If you are looking for a deep open world that engulfs you then this will do it. I'm a huge fan of escapism and Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best ways to escape after a long day.
