The Best Western Game Ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Imagine Tommy Vercetti with a pair of spurs and a horse, and there you have Red Dead Redemption. The way the game plays is almost identical to the Grand Theft Auto series, but in the Old West. You start with nothing, just a poor rancher trying to take care of his family. As you get more into the game, you find that the main character, John Marston, doesn't come from the best background, and some of the choice hes made in the past are morally questionably, at best. The story itself is pretty cliche, bad guy turns good then his past catches up to him. This game is all about the gameplay though. Even if you plan to do nothing but the main missions, this game is still going to take you a pretty long time to beat. Good thing there are tons of side missions and random questions the extend that game time, though. Even after you beat all the main missions and side quests, you can have fun for days on end, just riding around, lassoing people and hunting animals. There are tons of different weapons to choose from, such as shotguns, pistols, rifles, sniper rifles, lassos, and knives. And usually there are at least a few variations for each of the different weapons avaliable. The game is pretty easy, if you keep it on its default settings, but you can always challenge yourself and take auto-aim off. The map is huge, and take at least 15 mintues to get from one end to the other when riding a horse, and there are couple of cities that fill up the map, but it does a good job at giving you that open, expansive feeling of the Old West. After you finish the single player mode, you can always hop online and playwith some friends. You can either do a free roam mode, where it is basically like the single player mode, but with 16 players, or you can do a deathmatch mode if you preffer. Tons of stuff to do, extremely fun, and pretty long. For good reason, this is the stuff we've come to expect from Rockstar.

Best game ever made.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. An incredibly detailed version of the wild west. Very large map, an absolute TON of stuff to do. You can ride horses, stagecoaches and trains. A great arsenal of weapons (from pistols to dynamite!) This game is detailed with colorful characters and a GREAT storyline. Aside from the lengthy main story there are tons of other things to do. Varios sharpshooter and hunting challanges, tasks to do for strangers and a bunch of side games( holdem poker, blackjack, horseshoes, arm wrestling, liars dice) to enjoy. Dozens of animals you can hunt and skin! You can lasso a person, hogtie them, place them on your horse and take them to the train tracks and watch them get run over! How is that NOT fun? the guys took their formula for GTA, moved it to an intresting time period and perfected it. If you enjoy open world games with hours and hours of stuff to do, aany GTA game or the wild west in general you will not find a more entertaining game.

Exciting and Surprising
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Red Dead Redemption is by far my favorite game and will be remembered as a great. This game possess the best graphics I have ever witnessed. A very exiciting and shocking story mode that could possibly be motion picture material. Vehicles and weapons are fantastic as well. Online is fun too. Getting a posse of your buddies and raiding another posse's hideout is always fun. The only thing I don't rate five stars about this game is the controls, which take a bit getting used to. This game is an absolute must get!

The open world western genre is alive again...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start by saying that I love Red Dead Redemption. That is not to say that it is perfect. I will address it's triumphs, and shortcomings here. The graphics, in particular the faces are very detailed. Rockstar is notorious for rendering blurry faces so that is a step in the right direction. Rockstar is also known for crafting memorable characters, as is the case here. Some missions are standard, and some are amazing set pieces that are a blast to play. There is tons of thingsto do outside of the main storylline. Some of these tasks are repititive, but they do add more playtime if you are willing to invest it. The ending is the only problem that I have with this game. I spent about 12 to 15 hors playing with this character through the main game, and got accustomed to playing with him. He was invincible throughout the majority of the game, which I understand is accompanied with it being a game. I finally reached my goal of being with my family, and living happily. Skip ahead a few missions, and I am shot dead. I believe this was meant to be an honorable death or something, but I could care less about playing with his son. What is even worse is you are not allowed to enjoy killing the guy who orchestrated all of this. You have to travel all over to find him, and all you do is have a duel which is unexciting. The main story length seems short compared to GTAIV. That is not a huge problem though as there is plenty of optional content to peruse. Red Dead Redemtion is a fun game with some bugs. If you can get past these, you will enjoy this game fully.

This game is Great, Rockstar is fixing the glitch
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this game is fantastic, there is in depth interaction with the storyline and although the controls can be a minor pain with the horse, its easily fixable by adaptation. The story is nice, not extremely deep, but no where close to shallow either. I like the poker and the gambling games and the fact that some of the outfits allow you to have bonuses such as cheating as poker, this game is very addictive and Ive already put 14 hours into it, I feel Im about halfway done with it so overall its not a short game, the game does have a few minor glitches but Rockstar is already aware and on top of it, look forward to updates to fix the glitches within the next couple of weeks, they are also giving out a new outfit and a horse or something as an apology for the glitches, unlike EA, Rockstar takes care of thier customers, the only thing they need now is a New design engine for thier games, but what works, works. (To the guy who said the game is short) did you play the game straight and not do any extras?

Great game,
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Though I wasn't too satisfied with the beginning missions, as those were boring and long (herding cows, other tedious farming activities), the game gets going once you've finished 8-10 missions (3 - 4 hours in the game). The story wasn't too exciting in the beginning but it gets interesting once you go onto Mexico. The voice acting sounds pretty authentic and the main characters each have a separate personality. The only problem I had was the beginning really, but once you get through that it gets pretty fun. The shooting, and dead-eye targeting, however, make firefights with enemies, and even bosses, way too easy, and do not give you the satisfaction of a hard fight. However, tangoing with grizzly bears makes up for the easy gunfights with the humans.

Rockstar delivers again
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rockstar games seems to put out the best games on the market. The amount of stuff there is to do in this game is ridiculous. The voice acting is top notch, the gameplay is easy to get acquainted with, the story is superb, and the length of it is why we buy games. Hands down the best western game ever to hit the gaming market.

Great trip back to the Old Wild West!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Game of the Year Edition for PS3 and thoroughly enjoyed playing it. The developer totally nailed the look, feel and sounds of the Wild West, it really feels like you're playing an old Clint Eastwood movie. The story is engaging and the voice work by the hired actors is often very hilarious and priceless. Besides the normal version, the Game of the Year Edition includes Undead Nightmare, where you play through the map from the normal version, now with an unknown illness has swept through the land, making people zombies. Zombies in Old West? FUN!! Get this game, you'll love it a bunch.

Exceptional open world gaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far the best game of the year. The graphics are second to none, and the open world environment is extremely creative. The plot is clever, and the side missions are almost as fun as the main story line. I played for weeks before reaching the end, but with this game there really is no end, you can just keep playing until you can't stand shooting another person place or thing. Highly recommended.

all around amazing game
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a fan of the grand theft auto games and this game looked purely B.A. so i bought it. Graphics are great, i dont play a lot of shooters but it wasn't too complicated at all. There is a lock on aim feature with most weapons which makes it easy. The story was great, graphics are great, loved this game. There are plenty of side stories to complete and multiple mini games. The grand theft auto games are good, but this is by far much better. Almost everything in the game is interactive, the houses, there are treasure boxes everywhere, you can steal horses, break wild horses, dual people, raise your fame and honor, or if you want to be a bad guy, lower your and honor. Everything you do in the game effects something. As your fame grows things in the shops get cheaper and people will help you out more. Its just a very very good game, one of my favorites.

True Western Saga
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Red Dead is a great fit for the sandbox game genre. It's right up there with GTA4, & Just Cause2, just to name a few. It may take a step back in time but not in gameplay. Who knew they had bullet time back in the dayz...eat your heart out Neo...lol. Anyway, the story is great and presented well. You play as John Marston a former Bad@$$, who has to catch his former running mate in exchange for his family's life. All the characters are memorable, in true Rockstar fashion, and all the western accents are done very very well. People were so polite back then...lol. The gun fights are good as well. Shooting people on horseback has never been so fun. U can do all the small things that make western life fun...horse wrangling, games of horseshoes, etc. Bottom line...pick up this gun slinging, horseback riding masterpiece and get your Yeee Haaa on.

Awesome!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.RockStar Games has done it again. This game is great, from the newly added Co-Op missions to the Free roam online , not to mention the single player Storyline and Side missions. Once you pick up the controller and start playing you will find it nearly impossible to put it down. Cant wait to see what add-ons RockStar comes up with next! I give it a must Buy!

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great game Great Graphics but a Beauty like this is bound to have a few glitches on its relese Guys they will fix them eventually. The story is great but i would have writen the end a bitt differently i wish it was longer too almost every Console game i play last me like 2 days i checked my play time it was almost 2 days so yeah i am getting a little tired of that and don't listen to what other people saying they have to horse travel everywhere there is a camp in your invitory if you have a PS3 press select and then press R1 you will see it there if you set it up you can go to your map and select a waypoint to whereever you want to go and in your camp select fast travel or somthing like that and boom your there mabey thats why i beat it in less than 2 days. Oh and do the treasure side quest they are so fun if you want to do them all you have to wait till Blackwater is open to you good luck and have fun.

One of the best last-gen games, without question
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think anything lower than a 9 is a troll review. The game is expansive, memorable, great gameplay, classic Rockstar GTA but in the Wild West. It is one of the 10 best games of last gen, and it was never ported to the PC. We all eagerly await Red Dead 2 and it would blow the doors off this gen!

Best Western Game, Yet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start off by saying that I'm not really a fan of Western [cowboy] films nor am I really interested in that genre. However, Red Dead Redemption is one of the best games out there for ANY genre within the gaming industry. What makes this game great? The campaign mode is a long story - long enough to keep you interested until the end, that is. There are side quests and random missions that can be completed by talking to strangers. There are plenty of different weapons (not only guns, but throwing knives, lassos, your fists, etc.) Shooting feels natural, especially with Dead Eye (a slow-motion ability that allows the player to pinpoint the exact location on an enemy's body of where the bullet is to be shot). The voice acting is really good. On a scale of 1 to 10, the voice acting is easily an 8 or close to a 9 (10 would be like the voice acting in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves). The environment is lush and full of the "proper ingredients" - the grass, leaves, and tumbleweeds sway with the wind; the water effects are very nice (looks real enough to touch); there are plenty of canyons and mountainous terrains, cacti, railroads, etc. The graphics, although not the most polished, looks really good because of the amount of detail within the game. The atmosphere makes the game really feel like early, undeveloped America with the saloons, gang hideouts, town settlements, etc. The weather is realistic. Clouds move, shadows shorten and lengthen when the sun rises and sets (which makes for beautiful sunsets), the moon actually provides lighting in dark places, and rain drops hit the camera screen when the screen is angled upward. The physics are pretty accurate. When you lasso someone and drag them along the ground while riding your horse, they move realistically depending on their impacts with the ground. The horses gallop and stride as they would in real life. Enemies fall realistically depending where they're shot and don't die right away if they're not shot in a vital area. There is a lot of different wildlife - all can be killed and skinned (including birds). There are different breeds of horses, and some are faster, have more stamina, or have more health depending on the specific breed. Do you wanna be a bandit? Go ahead and hogtie someone, leave them on the railroad track, and watch as their blood splatters on the TV screen as they get run over by a train. Be careful, for if any witnesses see you perform any criminal act, they will report you to the law, and a bounty will be placed on you. Hilariously enough, you can always bribe a witness or give a pardon letter to any telegram office. Do you wanna go hunting for grizzly bears? Well, there's some in the snow-covered forests. If you can't find any, at first, just shoot your gun. They'll come... Sometimes, you won't notice them until they're really close. Do you wanna be a bounty hunter? Check the nearest town for WANTED posters. You get paid for every successful bounty mission (more money if you bring the suspect back alive). Wanna see who's the fastest gunslinger in the West? People may challenge you to duels. It's fun, it's intense, and it's bada**. There are several mini-games including Five-Finger Filet, Blackjack, Poker, Liar's Dice, and Horseshoes. The player can spend hours on these mini-games alone. If you cheat in these mini-games, someone might challenge you to a duel if they catch you doing so. There are also plenty of things to see and be aware of in this game. You'll see law enforcement agents trying to capture criminals on the run. You'll meet people on the road who need help (or those that will try to trick you and pretend that they need help, who will then steal your horse, rob you, or try to kill you). You'll see wild animals (wolves, boars, mountain lions, etc.) attacking innocent people who are far away from the nearest town. You'll see gang shootouts and robberies. You'll even see drunk men trying to keep themselves up after walking out of saloons. You can get drunk yourself, as well. What's not all that great? Traversing across the various lengths of terrain will seem tedious. You'll do it enough times where you'll finally decide to use the "instant transport" system. Find a place where the game will allow you to set up camp, and travel to towns more efficiently by selecting which town you would like to travel to rather than having you and your horse take ten minutes to get from one place to another (although your horse's stamina does improve the longer you keep it and the longer you travel). The interaction with other people is very limited, which makes them feel almost robotic and lifeless - there is almost no interaction (unless it's a cut-scene - where you have no control of the player, anyway) other than the "Hi, how are you?" or "Evening, ma'am." or "What's goin' on, partner?" and other forms of greetings. The hand-to-hand combat mechanics could use more work - you block, dodge, and punch. There's the occasional ground tackle which can be followed up by a not-so-aggressive "ground n' pound" - you can get about two to four punches with the right hand while you're on top of the enemy, but that's it. The only glitch I can actually remember is when the horse might do a super jump, but it's rare and probably depends on where you're trying to jump and what you're trying to jump over. Can you go fishing? No. You could care less. Can you go swimming? No. The player will die instantly if he's more than waist-deep in any body of water. Are there any more missions to complete after beating the main campaign? Yes, but these are only side quests. However, there is one particular "side mission" that actually "ends the entire main story." The credits start rolling once this mission is completed, but the game can still be continued after that point. As for the multi-player part of this game, you can form posses, shoot others when they least suspect it, free roam just like in the single-player mode, establish gang hideouts, earn experience points and level up, play mini-games, race, etc. Again, there is just too much to do in this game. All in all, Red Dead Redemption deserves no less than five stars. I'll give it a 9.5 out of 10. No regrets here. This is definitely a game to have in your collection.

Red Dead Addiction
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After playing RDR for about two weeks, I have not been able to stop. I find myself engulfed in the story, graphics and especially the little details. Yesterday I played for seven hours straight and my wife sat beside me watching as if it was a movie. She loved every minute. Then, last night, we happened to catch a western movie on cable that was made in the 1960's. The film took place in the Post Civil War west, and low and behold - we were watching Red Dead Redemption. Everything, every little detail (buildings, towns, characters, costumes, wagon roads, horse trails, the environment, dialogue, and most importantly, the colors, were all exactly as they were in the game. That's how detailed RDR is. If you like role-playing games, with tons of action, in an incredibly real recreation of the Texas/Mexican border, then get RDR.
