Resident Evil 7 is a departure from the last couple of Resident Evil games: it's less action-oriented and more along the lines of the survival horror genre which the series helped pioneer in the 90s. The gameplay view is first-person now, but that helps add to the engrossing experience (especially in VR). The pace is a lot slower than RE5 and 6, but the horror atmosphere and gratuitous gore is on full display. You'll spend the first hour of the game frantically running from the game's antagonists, but you'll quickly amass a cache of firearms to dispose of them (pistols, shotguns, a submachine gun–even a flamethrower and grenade launcher). Ammo and inventory is limited, but you're never too far away from a save point or storage box, so you shouldn't feel too constricted. Switching between weapons and using healing items couldn't be easier–simply assign the 4 directions on the d-pad for your weapons and press R1 to use first aid. One area in which the game suffers a bit is from the lack of enemy variety. Shortly after the first "boss", you'll frequently encounter tarry, rotten creatures dubbed "the molded." They're terrifying enough, but you don't see too many other enemies in the game other than those–outside of a few mutant insects. Resident Evil 7 successfully reinvigorates the series without sacrificing its identity. The only real drawback is the lack of extra content after you finish the main game...all of that must be bought via DLC (but it used to be the kind of thing that was included after you beat the game). Still, you can't go wrong with RE7 if you're in the mood for some genuine survival horror.

This game is both a wildly different and self-same title in the RE franchise. It combines elements of the newer games in the survival horror genre like Outlast or Amnesia with instances of gameplay where all you can do is run and hide, traditional elements of a classic RE title like item boxes, limited saves (on Madhouse difficulty), and inventory management, and an intriguing storyline that evokes the classic feel of the very first RE. To me it's a bit like Nemesis as well where you're constantly having to be on the lookout for boss type enemies following you and who aren't meant to be fought or killed which adds much suspense to the title. If you were at all worried about this game because of changes like the First-Person perspective or the fact that it seemingly has little or nothing to do with the original story, don't turn your back on this game. Resident Evil is finally back to form and may even be better than ever.

Game has 2 puzzles that got me stuck for a bit- fun horror movie kind of plot like devils rejects. Great use of VR - though might of made it easier non VR playing. Second half of game less interesting. Very solid game and glad it moved more to old school survival horror.

Resident Evil games are always scary but with the VR it makes it 10 times better!!

Back to the original style of resident evil. Puzzles and the resident evil style horror is baxk with this new version. I enjoy the different enemies and the atmosphere of the game. This will get you scared and on your feet. Makes you want to keep playing and want more.

I love all Resident Evil series. The graphics are so real. I hope they launch more.

This version in vr was killer when the characters jumped out that was super scary

This game cetainly reminds me that Resident Evil sequal is one of the best horror games. Great graphics creates scary atmosphere and sick characters make you fell scared all the time. VR will be plus if you have it. Great buy at $30 dollars. Highly recommended!

Try it in VR. No joke it's pretty amazing once you get over a little quesiness.

Bought this game to play with my VR and it does not disappoint! Great graphics; great story; scary stuff here! One of the best VR games out there. Play it at night for better ambiance and recommend with surround sound for better sound effects. Go buy it now.

Resident Evil 7 is a complete shift in gameplay style from previous games. The 1st person perspective, realistic graphics, and honest to goodness scary atmosphere just make this game. Good length and plenty of scares along the way. Recommended.

I love this game. I have played through the story several times and the DLC adds to the story. Definitely back to the roots of Resident Evil. The only bad thing is the graphics are kind of worse than I expected especially when close up on characters talking.

I have to admit, when this was 1st announced, I was like a lot of the naysayers: A lifetime RE fan that cryed foul because this wasn't going to be like Resident Evil of old...1st person? No returning characters? Why are you doing this to us Capcom? The more info we got on this game, however, the more hyped I got! Call it a return to the spooky days of old where you don't know what waits around the next corner. The Bakers are like a new breed of Mr. X from RE2 or Nemesis from RE3! Beautiful despair ridden visuals compared to the ugly RE6. Compelling story, Half way through the game, I still didn't know what was going on in this world gone mad. It feels so different, yet so familiar. My one gripe is that there wasn't enough variation in enemies besides the molded and the Bakers. Jack, Marguerite and Lucas are totally memorable villains though! I really want to play this in VR!

I've played all Resident Evil games and I like what the franchise has done with the new Resident Evil 7. Making it a 1st person shooter, it JUMPS out of the screen at you! The story and graphics are great as well as the music background, you've been warned

Arrived quicker than expected. Very fun game. Resident Evil is one of my fav series, and 7 is one of my fav games, it's amazing!
