Fun for old school RE fans despite the 1st person.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wrote this review a few days before the release of Resident Evil 2 remake and after playing the demo of it as well. Having played mostly 3rd person Resident Evils since PS1 I don't dislike 1st person I just had to transition myself to play RE in a different perspective. I still like 3rd person more, but 1st person works well for RE 7. The pros and cons of RE 7: PROS: -Graphics are excellent. Sharp, detailed, and extremely unnerving textures & lighting. -The various creepy sounds you'll hear throughout this game will keep you on edge the whole way through. The soundtrack is extremely well done I feel, and was very subtle yet powerful in regards to enhancing the experiences and scenarios. -The game play is extremely fun. Killing enemies is actually extremely satisfying despite the fact that the best option in combat scenarios often at times is fleeing. _****THE STORY***** literally the best part of the game in my opinion. The whole time my cousin and I played this game we kept theorizing what would be the situation or what would happen next and we could not pin it at all. The fact that this story leaves you in complete mystery compared to Resident Evil 5/6's painfully obvious story arcs was a very pleasant surprise and quite the thrilling experience to unravel. -Had some Resident Evil 4-like gruesome deaths. I didn't experience nearly the amount that was in RE4 but the few that I did see were pretty......intense. -There is some replay value in regards to a key point of the story. Not going to give spoilers so take my word for it, especially if you care about the story then it would be worth going through again for this point alone. Also to try again on a harder difficulty setting because why not. CONS: -Puzzles are fun and neat but not that challenging in my opinion. Slightly disappointed in regards here. -I finished the game on the Normal difficulty in 9 hours. That,s a high end for RE completion hours but there is DLC for those who want to get more out of this game. I have the DLC bonus footage etc., but have invested time in two I have played so far and can say you could get maybe another 25+ hours from the additional content of this game playing at a casual pace. As of now there is no "complete" version of this game (definitive edition with game + all dlc combined) so who knows if Capcom will release more DLC well into 2019. In conclusion it is a worthy purchase especially at its $20 or so price for the base game.

Resident Evil is back!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best Resident Evil game since RE2 and Code Veronica. I liked 4 a lot but it was a major departure from the established series formula and while at first glance RE7 appears to be an even greater departure it is in fact a complete return to the survival horror roots which were the foundation of this series. The 1st person mode is actually fantastic and while initially I was very skeptical I am now completely convinced that this perspective is the future for the franchise. The early games used 3rd person perspective and fixed camera for atmosphere while simultaneously working within the confines of the era's hardware limitations. First person mode is what the game should always have been. The scares are legit. The game has great atmosphere. Puzzles are not the toughest in the series but certainly require some thought. Combat is done very well and the graphics and sound are top notch. I am playing on a PS4 Pro on a new Sony 4K tv and the graphics are very impressive. The game runs at native 1660p and upscales to 4K using checkerboard rendering and combined with HDR the result is truly stunning. The game is full of secrets and there are multiple unlockables depending on the manner in which you complete the game which encourages the game being played multiple times. I highly recommend this title to any old school RE and horror genre fans. A must buy!

A Terrifying, Exciting Adventure
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just finished RE7 last night. The experience was terrifying, visceral, horrifying, and a blast! I loved the story, the graphics, and the atmosphere. I can't recommend this game enough. Other reviewers have faulted this game for not feeling like a "traditional" Resident Evil, but I could care less. If you want a great game that will give you goosebumps, buy this!

Great Experience!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a fan of Resident Evil (RE) since its original release on the PSX and must admit, I was a bit skeptical of this new addition. RE in first person? RE without zombies? "How is that RE", I asked. Then I remembered RE4 and the skepticism I had about it and the fact there were no "zombies" in that game and it was a drastic change from what I had come to love about the series. RE4 still holds my award for the best in the series, but RE7 has worked itself up to a very close third place (with the original being second). The first person view simply works and it works VERY well! There's a sense of claustrophobia when in the narrow hallways and an inability to know what is behind you unless you turn around...a feeling that simply cannot be recreated in third person. The graphics are impressive (especially in HDR) and the surround sound is immersive and will have you turning around to see what made that sound or dreading to open doors because of what is heard on the other side. While the demo that was released gave a good idea of the gameplay mechanics, the story is much different (and much better) than what the demo lead one to believe. I avoided details on the game prior to playing it, so there was nothing spoiled prior to me playing the final game. There are no "jumping through hoops" like the demo made you do to get the "true" ending and the story is very RE-like once you get deeper into the game. It reminded me of the first RE movie more than the past RE games, but that's not a bad thing. There was definitely an "ah-hah!" moment in the game where everything immediately made sense and it was a good feeling to have which made the remainder of the game even more enjoyable.

Resident Evil has returned to fine form.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After the over the top action in RE6, Capcom has decided to bring RE back its roots with this game. This game is actually very scary and absolutely disturbing, unlike its recent predecessors. You explore and survive an old mansion occupied by a crazy family you have to fight along the way. It has puzzles ( which aren't too difficult to solve), item management, and the somewhat tanky movement from the old RE games. Its an overall great game, and highly recommended for survival horror fans.

VR is amazing
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is very good by PSVR standards (of course it's no Half Life Alyx). Very creepy, gets under you skin. Must play for anybody with a PS4 Pro or PS5 (sony will give you a free PSVR1 adapter). PS4 base model, I can't say

Amazing game! Scary!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have loved the Resident Evil series since the PS one days. Game is very good and has a pretty coherent story. There are only a few enemy types but given the story that is forgivable. Graphics are very good and I believe are at 1440p on my PS4 Pro. My only problem is some of the encounters have made me jump! Haha Overall fun game!

Best Resident Evil in YEARS!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a bit skeptical about this game when I went to pick it up, especially after the disaster that was Resident Evil 6. This game has absolutely wiped the floor with my expectations; it is atmospheric, dark, scary, artful, beautiful, horrifying, and just plain gave me an awesome experience from the beginning to the end of its 10-hour campaign. It's like living through the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The icing on the cake? Playing this game in VR; it really heightens the intensity of the experience, and makes you feel as if you actually exist within the game's world in a way that's difficult to describe. I got the distinct sensation, the whole time, that I was being watched from behind. Capcom really knocked the ball out of the park with this one, and I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Here's hoping they have more of this kind of Resident Evil planned for the future!

EXCELLENT CHANGE OF PACE TO SERIES-MUCH NEEDED
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As the Previous 3 Resident Evil Games (Biohazard is the japansese title Capacom uses for the seris over there), Reisdent Evil 4 initially a Gamecube exclusive only which I fondly played way back on it's release, then throgh it's MANY remasters on PS3 and PS4 remains maybe the best action ever and revoluntionalzed the franchise which it's slow gameplay and mind numbing puzzle solving stalling action had been terribly done in 3, Nemesis and the avergae Gamecube only remakes-RE 4, 5, 6 (5 especially) took us to almost ridiculous Shooter status but each was Fantasticly deep and effective-5 if you havent played it-pick it up TODAY its 14.00. I dont want to give aay spoilers to this game but it is a throwback to the older survival horror premise and is far more primal but the graphics, story and pacing are top notch you wont be bored, just understand it is VASTL a depaeture from parts 4,5 and 6 if you have played those, do not expect to be shooting any machine guns going in-play this one First then immedialtely buy all 3 from Best Buy as theyre on sale right now and you have about 3 months of awesome gaming awaiting.

Great Game to Series
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have played other Resident Evil games in the past, and I have always been a fan. This game does not disappoint. I like the first person view of the game. The graphics are incredible, and I felt like I was there. I have not had an opportunity to try the VR mode, but I can only imagine it will make it creepier.

Awesome game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love it. RE7 takes you back to Horror and mystery just like the first game. There are so many horde type slaying zombies games out there now, resident evil 7 does an awesome job of suspense and puzzles. This game is truly terrifying. The graphics are amazing and the story is great. Can't imagine playing in VR.

RE Might Finally Be Back
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game reinvents what the survival horror genre has transformed into from the original games in the series. I was disappointed in the Resident Evil 5 & 6. Revelations was pretty good but this definitely was quality throughout. It was the perfect length for the story and the atmosphere provided by great graphical fidelity makes this a GOTY contender. I will likely do multiple playthroughs. Highly recommended if a fan of thrilling suspense.

A return to form
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I played the game in VR, and it was probably the best VR experience to date. I have played a lot of horror games, but this is the only game that has made me litterally jump and fall out of my seat. Jump scares are so much more terrifying with VR. The graphics are not as good with VR, but not terrible. I still felt very immersed in this terrible house. I will say that I had to take brakes because the action and tension became so intense. I highly suggest trying it in VR!

Coming along in VR
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been trying to play this game strictly in VR and I just can’t get myself all the way through it. The way the jump scares are in this game, VR is the way it feels best. But, no matter how I change the settings I get motion sickness or I can’t move fast enough to play the game. If the settings are slower, to prevent motion sickness, the moment you need to run and shoot something, you can’t get away fast enough, which becomes frustrating to have to do a scene all over again. In VR it gives you a true sense of fear. You are looking around corners, looking over your shoulder, jumping at the slightest shadow. There were some scenes that I was more amazed at how cool it looked than at how scary it was. There are some times though that can throw it off, like when you see your hands are just floating there and the cut scenes become a flat box. I feel the game would be a whole lot better in VR if they allowed the Move controllers instead of the standard controller, especially when it comes to being required to attack something. It just feels so unnatural to try and point a dot at the center of my face for a weapon instead of pointing a gun like in other Move controlled games, especially when you are trying to get away at the same time. The game is 4K HDR on the PS4 Pro and looks sharp as ever on my TV. However, everything now looks shiny, as if it were wet. I would expect a lot of this scenery to be a flat dingy, dusty type setting, especially since dust is always floating in the air, but it is not. Old boards on the walls look like they are shimmering the reflection of light. I understand some areas of the game should be like that, but not everywhere and everything. I still think this game and the story that goes along with it are awesome. It is not the typical Resident Evil game where we are constantly killing zombies, but more of a puzzle/mystery escape room type game.

Great game, meh VR mode
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is fantastic and a great way for the Resident Evil series to get back to it's roots in the horror genre. It's kind of like an insane version of the TX Chainsaw Massacre with some zombies added in. The score gets dinged for me with the wonky VR mode. As that was added more as an after-thought as opposed to being specifically made for VR. You have to look at anything you want to shoot and it is only compatible with the dualshock controller instead of the Move controllers (missed opportunity there). All in all, this is a solid game and still a great have in anyone's library if you are a fan of RE or horror games. The VR mode could be better but does add a bit of replay value.

Survival horror is back!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Resident Evil returns to it's roots in Resident Evil 7. The game is now in First Person view but it makes the atmosphere and survival horror gameplay elements that made the Resident Evil series so great back in the day, that much scarier. The game is phenomenal and highly recommended!
