This is again for the quality of service. I had preordered the deluxe edition, with the inclusion of the FREE offered steelbook. Release day comes around and no steelbook. I’m done preordering from BestBuy and them deliberately wasting my time again and again. I will be returning this and just wait until the game is on sale. In the end, the so-called ‘Deluxe Edition’ is not even worth the MSRP. Biohazard was the better rendition of what was potentially Capcom’s big comeback. Alas, that’s not the case. Cancel culture has got Capcom, by the balls.

After RE2 & 3 remake I dunno what they were thinking with 8. It's somehow less scary than 7 but at least has better enemy variety vs 4 types of molded. The game seems to want to be serious with the start having that family trying to survive the village & scared out of their minds. But that's over in 5 minutes and then Ethan is cracking off lame one-liners that do not endear him as much as the writers think it does. They were trying to be RE4 in that aspect but also trying to be serious...Why? I played this with some friends, all of us have been through our fair share of RE games and we were all left feeling underwhelmed. Pretty game? Yes. Interesting enemies? Sometimes. Nice variety? Certainly! Good characters? Good lord no. Besides Lady Dimitrescu and Heisenberg who became typical roaring growling brain-dead monsters who voice their intentions over and over while yelling 'you will die' as you dumb countless bullets into them. After Lady Dimitrescu's area the game feels like it stops being as interesting and coasts. Does this game try to be RE4? Sure does, I don't know why some are trying to deny it. Everything from the suitcase, gun mods, scouting the area to find enhancements for yourself or money to buy more gear. The trouble is, it's just not scary. There's ONE section of the game that's scary but besides that? No. This isn't me bragging, minecraft has startled me bad, RE2 was pretty dang scary, Dead Space, Dark Wood, etc. The game tries to be serious at times but it's impossible to take it seriously even when it's really, really trying. Between Ethan being a dull plank of a man that tries vainly to have some one-liner or be emote and some things the game does, like all RE games, ya can't take it very seriously. The problem is, it keeps trying and it really tries with the ending and my friends & I were all unfazed by it. Ethan is supposed to be a blank-ish slate for the player but he's just DULL and trying to make everyone care for him isn't gonna work. Even RE1 on the PS1 you cared about the characters, poorly acted as they were, it managed to make you want to see them survive. It's something most of the mainline RE games managed, to make the characters either likable or fun enough to get through to the end. Except Code Veronica, that had Claire and only her to keep the game interesting. Also the story is DIRE. I'm not going to spoil anything, but if some characters had said some things at various points, that THE GAME EVEN MENTIONS ITSELF, so much could have been prevented. It makes, so little sense and it makes some characters come off as incompetent. They brought back mercenaries mode which I thought would be a nice addition but there's just not enough depth to the combat. It doesn't have RE4/5/6's follow ups to a stunned enemy. So you're just left to keep shooting them till they're done. You can't jump out windows (yes you can vault out of a 1st floor window) or set up/knock over ladders. Nor is it like Resident Evil 2 where you're trying to rush through tight areas with enemies about. So it really didn't work vs the other games. Look, ya want a really pretty game where you shoot monsters in the knees or the face while exploring various areas? This may be for you. Do you want a game with a story, likeable characters? You aren't finding that here. I recommend the Remakes of 1-3 way, way over this game. Yes, 3 is cut down and is missing some stuff but what was there was polished and fun enough- especially if you nab it on sale.
