Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent gameplay, immersive story, and effective horror elements as significant strengths of Resident Evil Village. Many also praise the game's atmosphere and sound design, contributing to a compelling experience. While some found the difficulty challenging and the game shorter than anticipated, positive feedback on the action and replay value outweighs these concerns. The overall impression is one of a highly enjoyable game with a few minor drawbacks.

After the release of RE 7, Village is a really good sequel, it may not keep the scary and psychological side of it's predecessor, but the story is something to stick around from beginning to end. I highly recommend it.

Pretty & fun, good RE installment but not the best

Ok, first off I read an article just before release that said that 7 was too scary. The fear factor and tension build up is not good as 7 which was disappointing to me. I absolutely loved 7 in VR and 8 will lend itself beautifully to a VR patch/upgrade. The first lord segment start to finish is interesting and was fun but felt simple for a RE game. The map is large but makes sense and is easily navigated. The second lord was my favorite part - lots of puzzles and the creep factor was high. I wish it was longer. The third lord - take it or leave it but next time I'll play with subtitles for this section because I have no idea what he said most of the time. The fourth lord area went on for way too long IMO, the map was huge and confusing. The pre-lord 4 fight was obnoxious but the actual fight with the lord was fun. The transition to the end was aggravating. This is a throwback to earlier Resident Evil games. Ammo conservation plays a noticeable part in Village and "gimmick" fights where they throw you some super-weapon are few and far between. The pre-order bonus was a nice leg up.

Not Horror, Too Short for the Money

RE8 is technically a sequel to #7. However, #8 doesn’t have the horror focus. I didn’t find any part to be scary. This is a pure action game- FPS. It’s good at being an action game, but I missed the horror. There are a better variety of enemies than #7. There are some puzzles- but they are quite easy- and I’m not the best puzzle solver. Like most RE games there’s quite a bit of backtracking. There are several twists and turns that I didn’t see coming- that was probably the best part. Although the ending had some over the top components- I found it to be satisfying. It’s a short game- only took me 6hours 39minutes first time, 2nd time took me only 4.5 hours skipping most cutscenes. Doesn’t seem to be worth the money. It does imply a sequel after the credits- but not with who you might think. Overall I’d recommend it if you like action/shooter games. But if you want horror, then it’s not going to fulfill that need. Didn’t really see a PS5 difference- not many opportunities for ray-tracing. But graphics in the castle were stunning. I didn’t think it was nearly as good as #7. I’d give it an 6/10 or 3/5.
