Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the M1 1296P Mirror Dash Cam's camera quality, ease of use, and installation process. Many appreciate the inclusion of a rear view camera and find the price reasonable for the features offered. However, some users note issues with glare on the screen, particularly in bright sunlight, and limitations with night vision capabilities. Concerns were also raised regarding the length of the rear camera cable and battery life.

Be prepared to get your hands dirty if you plan to install this yourself. But I guess you already know that, or you are going to get someone else to install it for you. To be clear the "it" I am referring to here is the rear cam. The manual says there are 2 ways to install it - inside the car looking out of your rear window, or outside the car next to the license plate. But I would warn you from installing it inside the car -> glass refracts light, and if the sun or another car's headlights are behind you, you will hardly be able to see anything apart from the light halo; and the same issue when your rear window fogs up or gets dirty even a little bit. So, yes the recommended way is to install the rear camera next to your license plate. How hard it is will depend on what type of car you have - for my Civic Hybrid it was a huge pain, because there is the battery behind the rear passenger seat and that just makes threading through the camera wire overly complicated! I am sure you will find a mechanic or an online video to meet your needs on that, so will not spend time on this. Coming back to the system itself, lets start with the Pros - - The camera quality is great and enough for what is needed (this is not a GoPro), you can read the specs above. Even in the dark the video shows you enough and is not super grainy. - The touchscreen is really responsive, and just shows how far we have come with touch technology to have this level of user experience in a device of this price point and form. - The front camera is pretty easy to install, it just sticks on to your Rear view camera with rubber bands, and even has foam at the back so it doesn't scratch your mirror. - Its power adapter cable is long enough that you can really hide it under your floor mats and then in the lining alongside the front passenger door and near your windshield. - The rear camera cable is really long as well, and the best part, even though it comes in the bag as one long wire with the camera attached, you can actually detach the last couple of feet next to the camera. And you really need that, because you will not be able to thread a wire with a camera body attached to it through your car's main body to the trunk. - Both the cameras have a great field of view - which especially for your rear camera means you can eliminate any blind spots if you have that feed running as your main feed. All in all the camera has 5 modes - -> OFF - just like a rear view mirror (duller/darker though) -> Something with a lane display (doesn't seem to work or be useful) and a clock -> Front Camera feed always on -> Rear Camera feed always on (you switch between these 2 by swiping on the display left or right) -> Auto rear camera feed with distance markings when you put your car in reverse (only if you hook the rear camera red wire to your reverse lights) Now, lets look at the issues, and there are a few - - Biggest issue I have with this -> The Camera's scope of view is not the same aspect ratio as that of the display. Camera's scope of view - .______ | .........| | .........| |______| Display aspect ratio - ______ |______| What you see is a vertically cropped version of what your camera sees, so, I hope you see the issue as well, you are never getting the full picture. This is extremely annoying and dangerous when backing up. So, a feature of this system is that you can hook up a red rear camera wire to your car's reverse light, so that as soon as you put the car in reverse and your rear light comes on, the camera shifts into another mode with the distance lines drawn up, and shows you the rear camera view. But, since you are never getting the full picture, do you really know how near or far the object you are seeing is. If you change the frame you are seeing to 1 angle up or 1 angle down (which you can do by swiping up and down on the screen), the distance lines don't move, but suddenly they are telling you the distance of the object behind you has magically changed. Now, I know that's not what they are doing, but that's the effect it has on anyone viewing it, because the view on the display is so narrow vertically, you never get the full picture, you are either looking too high, and so think even far off things are almost touching your car, or you are looking too low, which gives you a better idea about distance from close by things, but then you don't know if something big is there just out of sight of the display frame. You have to really play around with it to figure out that span/piece of the camera view you would like to focus on generally and ignore the rest. This to me is the biggest drawback of this system. And its a design flaw. Till the camera scope and display aspect ratio match, we will not get the full picture. I would have preferred an option where we got the full pic, with big black bars on the side, if I chose to enable something like that. - Another Issue I have, the display itself is also a mirror, because they want you to have the ability to turn it off and just use it as a rear view mirror. But what that means is if you actually want to use it as a rear camera during daytime, your display is hampered by all the reflection you see from everything behind you. It is really bad during daytime, you can easily fix it by changing the angle of the display, but then your front camera is not recording the road its recording the sky. - Last issue, the front camera extension, at least on my car, interferes with the front visor. Any time I want to pull it down to protect my eyes from the sun in front of me. I have to again push the display on to a weird angle. Which means the front camera is again recording the SKY!!! - Minor grievance - this has no GPS for auto date/time and tracking, and also it has no connectivity with your phone. Not a major deal breaker but things you expect in today's age. I know it has other features like Parking more (automatically records if it feels a sudden jolt, when the car is parked), and it auto locks the videos if it feels there has been an accident. But that is standard with all dash cam systems. I was really excited by this system, when I tested it without installing I was amazed by the quality of the material and video. But the usability issues just keep nagging you every time you get in your car, and the only thing that is keeping me from un-installing it from my car, is the hours I put into installing the rear camera.

Stopped working after a 3 months. The touchscreen stopped working. It automatically moves the screen up and down to the point I can’t see who is behind me. Very dangerous! I have to swipe up or down to view cars behind me every 5 minutes! How useful is that? And it switches from the front and back camera WHILE IM DRIVING. I’m taking it off my car. I can’t even format the card because the touchscreen doesn’t work. A waste of $$$. Look elsewhere.

3rd unit of this model I've had. Unfortunately they only last about 5-6 months, then begin boot-looping endlessly. No firmware updates to be had and forcing an old firmware is impossible with rexings website. Poor tech support, takes weeks to get a reply and they continually ask to do basics (reset, restart, swap out hardwire kit, "do a firmware update" etc.) Which has already all been tried and no success. I loved the features and quality of video, and it worked great when it worked. But some quality control needs to be done majorly at rexings, as this is just one of many cameras they sell that doesn't last long. Many m1, M2, v1, v1p, v3 and v5's I've seen do the boot-looping out of the box, and rexing has no solutions that I've seen for the past year+.

Bought this dash cam 5 months ago, never installed it till last week. Found out the rear camera didn't work, Was told by Rexing to update firmware to enable the rear camera. That disabled the from camera. Rexing sent a replacement which didn't work either and mirror shuts off intermittently. Good thing I never installed it or made any holes. Now im waiting for a resolution and out $130 bucks.

This product is not worth buying. Poor vision quality. literally, you can see two images one of mirror and other of camera. This may lead to confusion in daytime driving. In the nighttime, you can only see the headlights of the car behind you.

HI, Thank you for your review. It may not have fit on your rear view mirror like it is supposed to due to the rubber straps not being set to the last opening. The mirror also has a plastic covering which yo should remove for better viewing. If it is difficult to view from the rear camera at night, you can try raising or lowering the brightness for a better view. rexingusa

This M1 dashcam and rear view camera were quite easy to install, especially the front camera/screen, which attaches directly onto the rearview mirror. Connect the included 12 ft cable power connector to the vehicle cigarette lighter port for easy installation or hardwire professionally if required. The screen doubles as a rearview mirror when turned off and offers a clear view. Screen is 10 inch IPS touch display with 1280 x320pixel resolution and the front camera helps capture traffic incidents with the wide angle lens that has 140degree viewing angle. The manual covers the basics of installation, but it was helpful for me to search YouTube for quick understanding of wire placement/hiding. The picture quality is crisp for front camera (1296p) and the rear camera which is waterproof and temperature resistant is just okay because of 720p and not of great quality. Its good enough to see what happens, but unless the area is well-lit, you won’t be able to see in night. Since the M1 dashcam mirror is strapped on to the OEM mirror using rubber straps, it vibrates a bit on bumpy road. It's only a minor annoyance but will get used to it after few days. Very convenient all-in-one dash cam supports loop recording meaning when the storage limit is reached on the memory(microSD card), new recording will automatically overwrite old ones and it supports microSD cards of upto 256GB. But make sure to format SD card before using for the first time in the dashcam. Gravity Sensor (accident auto-detection) is very sensitive on this and had to fine tune for first few days to get to the best setting. But it records when the car ignition is turned off incase of any accidents when parked. Also, this one doesn’t have GPS built-in like others on market but has a port on the top of the unit to connect external GPS. I got the rear camera professionally installed due to the model of the car and also to make use of the auto-reverse back up feature that this camera supports(rearview mirror automatically streams live feed from rear camera when the car is in reverse gear), but you can choose to install DIY if you are really handy and know how to wire the rear camera to the tail lights. M1 dashcam mirror has physical on/off power button at the bottom of the unit and on the top it has Mini USB port for power(it has inbuilt battery for recording when parked), AV in port, SD card slot & slot to attach GPS. Front camera can be adjusted by pushing in or out for better viewing angle. For intial setup, you need to touch the screen and select the settings icon. Once setting icon is selected, you will have following options to adjust: Video Resoultion - FHD 30fps or HD 30fps Segment Length - 1min , 3 min or 5 min Night Mode - On / Off Exposure - -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 Video Time Lapse - Off, 1, 4FPS Time Lapse Rec Time - 2 hrs, 8 hrs, 12 hrs, 24hrs Smart LCD Brightness - Off/On G Sensor Sensitivity - Off, High, Middle, Low Parking Monitor - Off, High, Middle, Low Screensaver - Off, 1 min, 3 min Language - English(default), chinese and one more language can be selected Volume - Off, High, Middle, Low Frequency - 50Hz/60Hz Date & Time - to set date and time in different formats Format - Format sd card(All data will be deleted message with Yes option to select for formatting) Default Settings - To reset to factory settings(message: All settings will be deleted and Yes option to confirm for default settings) Version - Firmware details displayed(M1-36-966P-190920 at the time of this review). On the screen Time , Date and Day is displayed in color and its cool. What is included in the box: - Rexing M1 Mirror Dash Camera - HD Rear Camera - 18 ft extension cable for rear camera; 3M double sided tape - Car power connector with 12ft cable - USB cable & Quick start Guide, Safety Guide, You will need class 10/UHS-I or higher MircoSD/SDXC/SDHC memory card that is not included to get started. Memory card of up to 256GB is supported. Overall I will recommend if you are looking for quality dashcam and regular firmware updates/ product support. I will update this review after 60 days with more Pro’s or Con’s.
