Customers express satisfaction with the M1 1296P Mirror Dash Cam's camera quality, ease of use, and installation process. Many appreciate the inclusion of a rear view camera and find the price reasonable for the features offered. However, some users note issues with glare on the screen, particularly in bright sunlight, and limitations with night vision capabilities. Concerns were also raised regarding the length of the rear camera cable and battery life.

Added level of safety for you and your family
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Another great product by Rexing. With millions of cars on the road, and road rage being at an all time high, dash cams have become extremely important. The Rexing - M1 dash cam is amazing! It is very easy to install, so anyone can can do it. It's as easy as mounting the camera unit over your original rear view mirror, runs some wires, and you are up and recording in no time. One of my favorite features in the Rexing - M1 dash cam is the backup camera. It's an added level of safety to make sure you are able to see any children or pets behind your car. The front camera is adjustable (extends or retracts). It has a large touch screen display (my favorite feature), and comes with everything needed to make installation a breeze. You even get a plastic trim tool to help run the power wire and rear view camera wire. Just remember to pick up a micro SD card along with you purchase, if you don't already have one. One downside to the Rexing - M1 is that the rear view camera is 720p. I really wish it was 1296p like the front. I've got a dash cam in all of my cars. I would highly recommend you do the same. I would highly recommend the Rexing - M1 dash cam to anyone.

Good camera’s front & back
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this on Friday, I spent all day on Saturday installing this camera. The screen that you observe and that records is simple to install. The rear camera, NOT SO MUCH! The package has a sticker that says Geek Squad Professional Installation available. I would HIGHLY recommend it. That is my reasoning for the 4 stars. I was so frustrated that I attempted to take pictures to post with this review throughout the installation process, but soon quit. And I consider myself pretty mechanically inclined. I installed this on my son’s Toyota and once installed it was great. Now having gotten that out of the way here is my review. The front camera and the screen that you see is crystal clear. The controls are well placed and easy to obtain (not while driving). It accepts microSD cards and it is very easy to install and use. You must format the card, so save anything you would need on the card. The front camera takes/captures excellent quality video, which being a retired State Trooper, the video would sure come in handy if he is ever involved in a crash. The rear camera was a little stubborn to get it directed to where I actually wanted it. But after I achieved that, again, it was good. The picture quality is not as clear as the front camera, granted it is less pixels. But having said that, when using the backing feature is neat. I have a factory installed camera that assists with backing on my Ford F-150, it has all the bells and whistles. But the Rexing DashCam M1 is just as clear as the factory installed and cost CONSIDERABLY less. I did have one issue, when I was backing up in the afternoon, after installation, the sun was setting, and the glare made the camera view “burst” out, and you couldn’t see. So keep that in mind. I do like the “lines that are used to assist with backing” they helped my son parallel park a lot easier. I’m not bashing the rear camera, I will tell you this, it took me a while to get it directed properly and then to get it to tighten to stay in that position. I used some “red” lock tight to help the bolts/nuts (I manufactured a brace that was a little better for me) to hold a little better. I drove it for about 20 miles and got back to my residence and it was still in the same position. For the money you cannot go wrong with the Rexing DashCam M1. I would recommend it to anyone. JUST LET THE GEEK SQUAD DO THE INSTALLATION.

Your installation team can’t, won’t, or knows how to install it. That was one of the big reasons for buying it there was to get it installed.

Great Concept, Really a 3.5 Star Dash Cam System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rexing M1 is a pretty cool dash cam system. The main body is a rear-view mirror shaped device that has the camera attached and a touchscreen along the face. You attach it to your existing rear-view mirror and bam, instant dash cam. Furthermore, it can actually act as a mirror itself when the screen is not "ON". If it otherwise executes on the normal features available in dash cams, these alone are instant 3 start material (and as you can see from the rating, it does indeed). But wait, there's more. This is a dual channel system. Dual channel means you've got both front and rear cameras! The front captures at 1269p HD while the rear is at 720p, which is standard for dash cams. In the past two years, after having to deal with he said/she said around incidents and wanting to better protect my vehicles, depreciating assets that they are, I've done a lot of research to select a dash cam system that I thought would be best while being cost effective. The Rexing M1 is a new contender that takes the top spot. Installation is pretty straightforward and matches the process for most other systems with the exception of front camera installation. For the front, you just attach it to your mirror. You'll need a micro SD card (which isn't included), and there's a charging cable to connect the camera to your car's 12V socket. You'd mount the rear camera and connect the cable between it and the front. Here's where I think the industry needs a shift - given that many new cars are starting to have 12V sockets in the rear area, it would be nice to have a wireless rear camera that one only need to connect to a nearby power source. The most tedious part of installation is what comes next - snaking and tucking the cables from the rear camera to front, and front camera to power, such that you hide them behind trim panels, the headliner, etc for a clean look. In most of my cars, this is not an issue. Current car has a panoramic glass roof with frameless door windows. So, there's no headliner or trim available in the normal places to hide cables from the back to the front. However, with 18 feet of cable, alternate solutions were available. Installing the front camera was a bit tricky in my car. The rear view mirror is on the small side and there wasn't as much "mirror" right where the straps for the camera were located. Still, I got it on and while not completely secure, short of an actual accident, the camera isn't going anywhere. A hardwire kit is not included. This is something that lets you connect the camera to a source of switched and constant power. This lets the camera determine when you've turned on the car via ignition and when you've turned it off. This also lets it record in "parking mode" with a source of power that's always available (some 12V sockets turn off with ignition). If your 12V source is always "ON", cameras sometimes have a setting to auto move to parking mode if the accelerometer sensor detects the car has been motionless for a configurable amount of time. As the car is off and not charging the battery, you need to balance between false positives and having the camera consume more power in the normal recording mode. However, if you noticed, I mentioned "charging cable" in the previous paragraph. That's because the M1 has an actual lithium ion battery versus a supercap to provide battery backup. While this was designed to let it record for a period of time while the power source is completely gone, it also lets you reduce the transition time from normal recording to parking. The camera has the basic dashcam features. When power is applied, it will automatically turn on (assuming the battery is charged up enough) and start recording from both cameras. There are buttons on the camera to start and stop recording, "lock" the current recording (from being overwritten - to you can mark an event for later review), take a photo, and go to the camera settings. You can also playback video from the camera. The pretty much records video in segments and immediately starts recording the next video. Once the SD card is full, it will overwrite the oldest video unless that video is locked. Unlike some cameras, it doesn't physically separate videos in different folders when locked so you may need to browse through a large list to find them if you move the SD card to your PC for later review. The accelerometer sensor will automatically lock video when it detects what it thinks is an accident (or parking mode event). Note, the rear camera has a wire to detect then your reverse lights turn on so that it can switch the screen to rear view mode - instant backup camera. I did not connect this to try it out. Unfortunately, there's no manual button to switch to the rear camera, which is a shame. It's nice to be able to manually toggle this. The screen auto turns on when it starts recording, however the amount of time is configurable so you can actually have a rear-view camera available when backing up if you didn't wire the camera to auto detect. Video quality was good from the front camera and surprisingly just basic - not good from the rear. Lighting didn't seem good, not well enough to rear license plates most of the time (despite competitors being able to do the same with 720p cameras). The front handled low light conditions well and the rear was on par with 720p competitors in those night like conditions. Still, I was disappointed with the rear camera video quality. Another issue that presented itself once you start looking at video is the adjustment of the front camera. Simply put, the best angle for the rear view mirror is not the best angle for the front facing camera. I'm not sure why the actual camera module isn't adjustable to let you tile/pan to get the right angle. Given that you're giving up your actual rear view mirror and may not necessarily hardwire for auto reverse detection, the ability to adjust the front is critical. In all, the Rexing M1 is a decent dash cam with a cool feature - that the front camera mounts on your rear view mirror and is a wide touchscreen. The rear view camera is ok, but not among the best in the industry. It seems Rexing just went with a really cheap module which while it cuts costs, takes away from the plusses of this system. There are also some usability issues that combine together with the rear camera video quality issue to turn this from a strong contender for five stars to something that's more like 3.5 stars. My review will give it 4 stars as some of the issues can be improved with firmware updates or add-on hardware.

An excellent take on the dash cam with a few flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rexing M1 is a great idea in that it combines a dash cam with a retrofit backup camera for vehicles that don't have one from the factory. The quality of the front camera is impressive for the price. Colors and were pretty good - at this price I do not expect to be able to resolve license plates on moving vehicles. Low light capability again was pretty good, even in the rain and fog. Nowhere near as much noise I was expecting. Rear camera is functional and adds value, but the quality is a definite drop from the front video feed. It's certainly enough to defend you in court if someone says you backed into them. It's great that it functions as a backup camera as well. Install of the front cam is pretty simple for anyone with basic mechanical skills. The rear camera requires you to tap into your vehicle's backup lights for the auto reverse function to work (where the mirror becomes a backup camera). Again, not terribly difficult to do on your own with basic electronics and mechanical skills. I recommend getting a "T-tap" style connector to make this easy. I admit that what I most wanted to like about the camera ended up being the biggest downside for me. I liked the idea of the mirror strapping over my existing rear view (and thus being fairly easy to move from vehicle to vehicle, as I am in rental cars several times a month). Unfortunately, my personal vehicle has an auto dimming rear view, and in this case the Rexing M1 just shows too bright of a reflection of headlights at night. Perhaps it works better on a vehicle with the traditional "flip" switch that moves the mirror up at night. Luckily I have 35% window tint on my rear window and a motorized shade in the rear, so with all that the reflections are manageable. I prefer to keep the shade down at night so I have better visibility over my shoulder, though. Again, if you have a manual flip mirror this will be a non issue. I think the Rexing M1 compares really well with dash cams in this segment and I would recommend it to anyone with the caveat I mentioned above. If your vehicle lacks a factory backup camera, the M1 is a no-brainer.
