Great upgrade & easy install!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system consists of a display unit that is attached to your rearview mirror and has a built-in front-facing camera and a wired rear camera. It's powered by a cigarette lighter plugin and accepts SD cards up to 256 GB. The front install is extremely easy and can be done in less than 10 minutes! The rear install can take longer depending on the model of your car, and whether or not you choose to attach the "backup" option to the camera. The camera is mounted outside the car, but I would think you could also mount it inside depending on your interior. There would be a loss of clarity and the "backup" functionality wouldn't work as designed. You work backward to install the camera starting on the outside. I have a hatchback SUV so I mounted the camera under the rear spoiler next to the rear led brake light. I removed the light and ran the wires into the fixture/door following the light wires, and then replaced the light and added some silicone sealant where the wires entered. Since my backup lights are in my door I ran the backup wire to the light fixture and the camera wire into the car and under the header to the front and attached it to the camera. The rear camera will work without attaching it to the backup lights. If it is attached to the backup light then the rearview will switch to a narrow field of vision with guidance lines similar to those available on OEM units. Three are detailed instructions on the Rexam website on how to format the SD card and install a firmware update if needed prior to inserting the card into the camera/mirror unit. Once everything is set up, the unit attached to your rear-view mirror functions as the control panel, rear-view mirror or front or rear camera screen. I used the rear camera view as my rearview mirror since the filed of view is so much better. You can set up the recording loop time, auto-save interval and crash detection through the options menu. There's also a parked collision detection option that will turn on the camera and start recording should your car be hit while parked! I didn't have a rear camera on my SUV and really needed one, and as far as I can tell this is as good or better than any OEM options in cars that I've driven or been a passenger in.

Excellent system, difficult install
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I currently own one car with a rearview cam (though no dash cam) and one without either, so I figured this would be an excellent upgrade for the one without. I have to say that I was right. To start, installation of the mirror portion with Dashcam is simple. I had this up and running without too much effort. The ability to slide the mirror portion over your existing rearview is excellent in that you do not have to reinstall your rearview mirror to make it work. But that's where simple stops (at least for the installation). The rear cam is connected via wire to the front, and you have to find a way to conceal that wire. The suggested way is to hide it inside the cloth roof of your car. I will not go into how this is done as I had to have someone come help me do it, and I'm not the most car savvy person in the world, but that said, it does say on the box that there is professional geek squad installation available, so I would say it should probably be considered. Once installed and up and running, I have to say that the ability for the rearview cam to take up the whole mirror is amazing. It has great video quality for the front cam and really improves my ability to see when I'm backing up (albeit with slightly lower resolution from the rear). The controls are simple to use and intuitive and the guide lines overlay is useful when backing up. The camera states that it only accepts up to a 256gb SDCard which I find as a strange limitation with 1TB cards available now and that have been available for many years, but that being said, I actually don't own one larger than 256 so maybe it was a wise choice by the manufacturer. All in all I would say this is a worthwhile upgrade to your vehicle, particularly if you own one without a back-up cam, just be aware that the back-up cam installation can be challenging.

Awesome Dash cam!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rexing M1 dash cam is such a pleasure to have. This system is well built, works great and isn't too difficult to install. You should be able to get the front cam up and running fairly quickly. Using the included panel tool you can easily hide the wire to the power supply. The quick start guide is very helpful for first-timers. You will need to provide you own SD card so keep that in mind when purchasing any dash cam. Picture quality is great and this dash cam is very easy to use thanks to the big touch screen that goes over your existing rear view mirror. The tricky part for most people, if you are the DIY type, is going to be the rear camera setup. It is not too difficult if you take your time but could present a challenge for some. Every vehicle is different so if it seems overwhelming I recommend having is installed. Overall this dash cam is great. The design and the ability to just place the unit over your rear view mirror is just awesome. I definitely recommend this dash cam if you are looking for that extra piece of mind and flexibility.

Features Galore, Expensive Installation
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I think everyone can agree, a dash cam is getting to be a necessity these days, so when I got my Rexing dash cam I was pleased with the options it brought and piece of mind for me while driving. Firstly, I love how it easily mounts right over the current rearview mirror so no crazy installation issues there. Also the wide range of viewing is exceptional and you can even switch between the rear and front view mirrors with just a swipe of the screen, similar to a smartphone. I also think having a rear back up camera has become a necessity, not a luxury, so this option makes my vehicle so much more safe and useful for me. The front dash cam is reassuring especially if I get into any accidents that are not my fault. Menu's laid out really clear and well, and the material doesn't feel cheap. Pros: - Really good resolution options on the mirror. - Wide range view on both front and rear cameras - It displays lines when you are backing up, which is a great help - Impressive size of the product - Front camera has adjustment to allow you to pan it up or down Cons: - Expensive professional installation for the rear camera if you don'tknow how to do it yourself - There is a screensaver option --- the camera should not have this in my option. Either the rear or front view is all a driver needs.

High Tech breathes life in Old Car
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Summary: Exceeded my expectations, good views (front and back), brings new tech into my old car, but not the easiest to install. Well worth it. Pros: . Installation of front cam is trivial . Discrete mounting on mirror, very stable, great display. Looks great. . Front and rear views are crystal clear (1080 and 720p respectively) . Easy to operate with full touch screen . Time and date built into display (even came preset!). . Wide angle view of traffic . Turns itself on and off when plugged into dash power port. . Adjustable front cam positioning (view) . Night vision is great . On screen viewing of recordings Cons: . Instructions for installation of rear camera trigger are best described as 'minimal.' . Installation of rear cam is ... challenging. Detail: So first of all, I love technology, especially well designed tech, so I will overlook some early aggravation (installation) if the end result is great, and I also tend to be realistic. I.e. I don't expect an after market system to work the same as a factory installed system. I was anxious to test this front/rear dash came system because as much as I love my old 2008 VW EOS convertible, I secretly covet my wife's rear view camera in her 2018 SUV when backing up. Plus my current front dash cam keeps falling off the window on hot days and is difficult to operate. Quick Tip #1. Download manual if you want to review before purchasing, as a lot comes down to expectations. Rexing%20M1%20Operating%20Manual.pdf I staged my evaluation in two parts because I am impatient. It's is ridiculously easy to install the front facing dash cam. Quick Tip #2. Install a micro SD card (NOT INCLUDED) BEFORE mounting the front dash cam. It has an ingenious design, it slips over and covers your mirror with two straps and that's that. My Mirror is reasonably thin and not that long so it wasn't a problem. I can see people with huge mirrors having some issues though. Plug it in to the power port, and away you go. Quick Tip #3. Before fully committing, test to see if the front cam mounts well on your mirror. If it doesn't you aren't going to be happy and should return it. The front cam replaces your mirror with a underglass display (and it's own mirror). At it's low price, this would have been considered magic just a few years ago. Quick Tip #4. Yeah you need to read the operation manual to learn the user interface. It is both mercifully short, and lacking a few details (more on that later). Once you read the manual, operating the dash came is easy to those that have ever used a smart phone (and who hasn't these days?) The user interface is so easy, once you learn it, you don't forget it, it becomes intuitive. Tap on the mirror and the menu options turn on. Swipe across the mirror to change front/rear views. Etc. You can change the brightness of the display but I quickly became accustomed to focusing either on the mirror or on the display much like a HUD. Quick Tip #5. Yep you touch the screen with your fingers to operate the cam. Be careful if you like to go through the drive-in for greasy fries while on a trip. And I also noticed the mirror tends to scratch easily (small scratches that you don't notice unless you look). And there you have it, an easy to operate, stable, unobtrusive front dash cam with modern touch screen controls But wait, there's more! This was the second stage of the evaluation, the rear view dash cam. As easy as the front view was to install, this was difficult. You have to run a wire to the back of the car (preferably conceal it), install the small cam to the bumper or thereabouts, and to get the automatic back up view, you have to 'install the red wire to the back up light.' Um, how, what, where? The manual doesn't really explain... fortunately I did find a YouTube video that shed some light. Quick Tip #6. https://youtu.be/Qh-crI3LAg8 Just do it, you will thank me. This is where I stopped. If this doesn't scare you, then yep I agree with all who said it's easy. But if your car is sealed tight like mine is and you don't want to mess it up you have three options. 1) Quit while you are ahead, the front dash cam is quite good and worth the purchase price. 2) Let the professionals install it. I would say its worth it but not everyone will agree (read below on reality filter) 3) Or (what I did) call a friend who does this sort of thing for a living. He came over, looked at my car, wasn't bothered by the lack of instructions, and said, 'it's a three can job'. Meaning, three cans of beer while he worked and I watched. Deal! Quick Tip #7. Consider having a professional install the rear cam. Now is the time to use your reality filter to set proper expectations. These days with every one running around with high resolution screens on our phones and 4k cameras, if you are expecting that for a device you paid much less for.. .well.. you will be disappointed. And if you are expecting fancy superimposed computer graphics for when you are backing up like factory installed models, again, you will be disappointed. But if you believe something over nothing is infinity, you will be really happy. That is to say it's a solid 720 P camera, you can easily check for things (people) behind you, so yes, it helps me park thank you. I admit I debated the stars quite a bit... I wish I could do 4.5. Quality wise its a solid 5, but that rear camera installation! Up to you to decide on that sorry.

Tremendous!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've considered for years getting a dash cam and always held off. Then, my wife gets forcefully rear-ended by a vehicle that had to swerve to miss another vehicle that was driving crazy. The person who rear-ended her didn't have insurance, and the other car who was the cause of the whole thing just took off. A dash cam could very well have caught that culprit as they went speeding away, but we didn't have one. Enter the M1. I love the concept of using a rear view mirror as a camera, and Rexing makes it easy. They supply you a rear view mirror with a built-in forward facing camera and a plugin for a rear view camera (also included in the package). All you need to do is strap the M1 onto your existing rear view mirror, run the necessary power cable and rear camera cable, insert an SD card (not inlcuded) and voila! You have a dash cam/back up cam. I tried it in my Jeep Wranger first, but to be honest it didn't fit well. The Jeep's rear view mirror isn't very long and has some sharp angles on it and I couldn't get the mirror to sit well on it. Tried it in my Nissan Titan, and it was easy as pie to strap on to the existing rear view mirror. I tucked the cable up into the overhead moulding and ran it down the side of the moulding at the passenger door. From there, I tucked it under the dash area and plugged it into the cigarette lighter, the one that is switched on when the key switches on. The rear camera took a bit more work, as expected. Rexing even supplies an adhesive pad you can use to stick the rear camera to the frame instead of trying to drill holes. From there, I followed the directions to set it all up. Start to finish, about 2 hours. I have it set up to record on a loop. Once the card gets full, the M1 automatically starts overwriting it. It is also collision sensing, but I haven't had a chance to test that out and hope I never will. When the vehicle is in a collision, the camera will automatically lock the video of the time period to make sure it is not deleted or overwritten. The picture quality is amazing. You can set the M1 up to show both the front and back views, or turn that off with the push of the button and use it as a regular rear view mirror. The mirror is a little dimmer than the factory one, but livable. I can't say enough good things about the M1! You can take pictures with it, it has a very usable touch screen, and is very discreet. You don't have to take up part of your dash with it, which is awesome. Highly recommended!

The future is now
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I know, technically speaking, we never are truly experiencing the present. By the time our senses interpret the signals around us we are ever so slightly in the past relative to those inputs. So we never really experience the present as we are always stuck in the past while hurdling towards a tomorrow that is always a day away. However when I opened the box of my Rexing Dashcam and accidentally turned it on while removing it, I had a momentary feeling that I had jumped straight into a new future reality. I am most certainly not a “new adopter” of tech. I looked into dash cams a few years ago and decided they were not ready for my middle-aged sensibilities. This one however, seems made for me. I love this thing. First off the camera is fantastic. I was able to hold it up pointing at one wall and standing just a few feet away while being able to pick up the windows on the adjacent walls. Very impressed with the clarity of the wide angle viewing. The quality of the picture is very good. Both the printed instructions and the on board menus are very easy to follow. Installation was super easy for the dash cam portion. I had it installed and recording in less than 5 minutes. Probably took another 10 min to run and hide the wire from the cam to the charger properly. Two straps effortlessly attach the device over the existing rearview mirror. Slide in a micro SD card and attach the cable and its ready to roll. I was able to adjust the brightness, resolution, length of each video and volume completely intuitively. I immediately decided I needed to go to the corner store for a soda to test this thing out! When it’s not playing back video it functions as your rearview mirror, for which it performed just fine. Once I got home I reviewed my video and immediately decided all future recordings would have the audio feature silenced as no one ever needs to hear me sing like that again. Videos can quickly be played back on your device, or just remove the SD card and pop it in your PC and watch in full screen glory. There is also a backup camera which I then played around with. My car already has a back up camera with a pretty good back up assist so I was not sure if Id fully install this. I hooked it up and activated it and I found it every bit as effective as my cars fancy system, maybe even a bit more precise. So I figured why not! It’s a little more involved to install as you have to tap into your cars backup taillight so the camera knows you are backing up. But I wouldn’t think this is beyond the scope of any moderately handy person. All in all I am very happy with the purchase. Seems to work exactly as it should and was pretty easy to install. Im usually pretty critical on reviews, but there was literally nothing about this product that didn’t meet or exceed my expectations. Well done Rexing!

Good dash cam, so so backup cam
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not 100 percent sold on this camera system. It gets the job done for the price point, but could be better. The rear view mirror is nice and large and fits well over the oem mirror. Not sure how long the rubber straps will last in the Florida heat but time will tell. The overall install was fairly easy once you find a route for the wires hidden in the door hand and floorboards. The rear camera wire doesn’t give much room for error when running it front he rear of the car to the mirror, so be sure to have a simple straight forward plan for that wire. The charger wire is well long enough to run however you want. Both cameras have a very clear picture so there is no complaint there. The front camera can be adjusted slightly to try and get a straight picture but can be difficult depending on the drivers preference of positioning the mirror view. The rear camera does well as a rear dash cam but as a backup cam is very underwhelming. The rear picture is very clear but the visual or depth perception is not accurate at all. When I used the backup camera option to park my car in the garage, the lines showed up and I went until the red line was touching the wall. When I got out to look at how much space I had, I was no where near where the camera displayed. I tried to adjust the camera to get a better feel for how much space I needed but couldn’t get it dialed in. The recording of the video is nice and easily transferred should you need evidence in an accident. There are not any really good instructions for this camera system so you’re kind of left in the dark there. The reflectivity of the mirror takes some time to get adjusted to. It is almost as if you are looking through a two way mirror but does work. During the day it is somewhat too much of a glare and at night it somewhat a little too dark. It does get the job done just takes some time to get used to. I will have to use it a little longer to see if I’m completely satisfied and able to get past the change.
