Needs improvement - Audio output is lacking

This cabinet ships with several fun arcade racing titles, that get played a lot in our game room. The controls feel reasonably solid, but not anywhere near commercial arcade quality. Rumble steering (on certain games) adds to the experience - produces more of a buzz than a rumble. The live feature only allows access to an online scoreboard, unfortunately there is no live gameplay across the internet or the ability to connect two of these cabinets together to race a friend at home.
This cabinet has a lot going for it in terms of game selection, controls and value – but the atrocious audio makes it impossible to give this more than a 3-star review (its that bad). The sound produced by this cabinet is weak, thin, and absent of any bass (a real problem when the soundtrack of the racing game mix is all Techno). This poor audio performance appears to be a problem with the audio EQ mix produced on the amplified output of the single board computer and not with the stock speakers. I should note that the headphone jack does not suffer the issue of 'thin' audio. Try plugging a good quality headset into it and prepare to be amazed at what you are missing! To remedy the poor audio, we plugged an affordable sub and speaker set to the headphone jack and moved the headphone jack connections and sub, internal within the cabinet. It is amazing how even a cheap sound bar and sub can add to the 'arcade' experience that this machine has to offer. Arcade1UP really missed the boat with the audio on this, I hope they are able to correct the 'thin' audio output in future racers and in a firmware update to this cabinet.

Great controls and fun games but hard to build. Took so much longer in comparison to other cabinets. Setting up wifi was terrible since you had to use the steering wheel.

Took a little more work to put together than some of the other Arcade1up machines. Very fun driving machine. Make sure to calibrate the controls before playing. Had issues keeping car straight till after calibrating.

It would be excellent if the audio issues weren’t so prevalent, I believe a 1981 alarm clock radio has better audio quality

The steering wheel has a nice rubber grip around it and great tension. Three of the included games also add a little vibration to it which is a nice touch. The shifter is nice and springy.
Emulation of the included games looks nice and smooth. I haven't seen any hiccups.
The gas/brake pedals are functional, but you have to find the right stop to step on them to not hear an annoying click.
Design of the cabinet itself is ok but I wish the control panel seams were covered with something

Such a fun 3/4 arcade to play. The steering wheel rumble feature really make it more fun on the games that it works with. A great choice to add to your home arcade if you're looking for a driving game.

Well made, easy to assemble and plays great. The screen is very sharp and the controls feel solid. Love the nostalgia this provides of playing in the arcade years ago!

Works great and it was a great deal I would definitely wait until it goes back to 299 to buy it though I do not think any of these cabinets are worth five or $600

Good deal for 299. The games are very hard. A kit just came out that allows you to add 150 games. The sound sucks.

There is something seriously wrong with the audio. There is an audible humming noise present at all times. I suspect that this is why the volume on these recent 3D game cabinets is so low. There is a flaw in the PCB design that adds noise to the audio output. They purposely lowered the maximum volume allowed so that you cannot hear the humming noise as much. I have tried everything to enhance the audio and eliminate the noise. I can amplify the audio and add bass through an external subwoofer, but all it does is amplify the noise and it sounds absolutely awful. Here is everything I tried, nothing got rid of the noise:
Stock speakers.
Direct connection to a Logitech 5.1 surround system. Headphone jack output to the 5.1 system.
2 channel amplifier and Boss speakers.
2 channel amplifier and Boss speakers plus a powered sub.
Ground loop isolator.

Full disclosure, I am a huge fan of the Ridge Racer series and have played about every game that has come out. Beyond my affinity for the game series, this cabinet is great and the online leaderboards are a nice addition (No online VS. though). The only cons are that not all games have rumble (Only Rave Racer and Victory Lap 2), but the original arcade versions didn't have rumble, so I guess that's arcade accurate? The gas and pedal could be a little nicer, but they get the job done. Beyond that, its an awesome cabinet.
