I spent the past week testing the RIG R5 Spear Pro HS Wired Headset, and I ran it through my usual rotation of games: Call of Duty, Destiny 2, Fortnite, and GTA V. Right away, the sound quality was the standout. For a wired headset in this price range, the clarity is surprisingly good. In Call of Duty, positional audio was sharp enough that I could consistently track footsteps and reload cues without cranking the volume. Destiny 2 had that layered sound I look for — abilities, ambient noise, and gunfire all stayed distinct. Fortnite’s fast-paced audio mix felt clean, and GTA V’s engine noise and city ambience sounded full without distortion. The overall tuning leans balanced rather than bass-heavy. There’s enough low-end punch for explosions, but the mids and highs stay clean, which makes long sessions less fatiguing. Dialogue also comes through with good detail, so story-driven moments in GTA and Destiny didn’t get lost behind everything else. Comfort, though, is where things get complicated. The clamping force is on the tighter side. At first, it gives the headset a secure, locked-in feel that actually helps with isolation. But after about an hour of use, I started feeling the pressure build, especially around the ears. The ear cushions are soft, but they aren’t very breathable — my ears were noticeably warm pretty quickly. For shorter gaming bursts, it’s totally fine, but during longer sessions I found myself taking breaks just to cool off. Build quality is solid for the price. The frame is lightweight but doesn’t feel cheap, and the flip-to-mute mic works reliably. The wired 3.5mm connection keeps latency non-existent, which is great for shooters. Mic quality is serviceable for party chat — not studio-clean, but clear enough for callouts in competitive matches. After running it through all four games, I’d say the R5 Spear Pro HS hits the mark on sound and value, especially for players who want strong clarity without spending premium money. Just be ready for a snug fit and some heat buildup if you tend to game for hours at a time. If comfort were slightly better, this would be an easy all-day recommendation. As it stands, it’s a solid headset with great audio performance, best suited for medium-length sessions rather than marathons.

[PROS] The Wear: Wearing the R5 Spear Pro is just pleasant and cozy. The fabric that lines the headset is extremely soft, and it feels plush up against my ears. This feeling still lasted even as I gamed for a few hours. The Sound: This headset is excellent in sound quality. When gaming, I'm able to determine the origin of certain movements and it reproduces environmental noise with decent fidelity. This is not designed for the audiophile who is more sensitive when it comes to sound elements and frequencies. Yet, the R5 is more than capable holding its own against other devices. The Mic: The audio quality is extremely important, but the ultimate value of a headset is determined by the microphone's performance. With that being said, I was ultra impressed by the R5 Spear Pro. My voice sounded clear, distinct, and vibrant enough to be heard by my peers while gaming. [CONS] Any complaints that I could levy against this headset would be small nitpicks that would be unfair to highlight. The R5 is a lowered tier product and missing/desired features would likely be found in more premium devices. It doesn't contain software to tune the headset or create profiles, but I feel its unnecessary given how well it performs out of the box. Furthermore, we do have the ability to use custom earcups and conveniently swap out earpads as needed. [CONCLUSION] The R5 Spear Pro is a wired headset that executes where it matters most: comfort, sound, and microphone clarity. The value to performance proposition is very shocking because it easily outperforms other devices in its class and puts a fight against higher ranked headsets. Overall, this is a worthy investment that I enjoyed using.

I got these to replace an older set on my ps5. I had a set of rig's before and I thought this set was in my budget and appear to take advantage of the 3d sound technology the ps5 offeres. I plugged these into the controller and they recognized right away. I did go in and make sure before I got to busy in the games that the setting were correct, and they were. I also went in to set up a profile for the 3d audio and I forgot how different that makes the sound. I got into a 1st person shooter game with my friends and these were fantastic. I pretty noticeable upgrade from my last ones. The tone is clear, the bass is balanced and present. The voice pick up of friends talking to me was clear and they said I was clear on their end. When stuff was being shot by me, it was front to back, side to side, up to down, separation was quite good. The comfort of these is quite good. The memory foam is soft and they seam reasonably breathable. I will wear these for an hour or two at a time between breaks and they are comfortable, and stay in place. The covers on the outside of the ear muffs detach and in theory you can buy many different covers. I may explore that later, but for now, I'm enjoying them. The value I feel I got for these is quite good. They appear to be exclusive to best buy, which I did not know, but I think it was a good find. I reccommend these to anyone. I hope they last for quite a few years. I liked my last set a lot and will use them elsewhere, but I'm glad I updated.

As the title suggests, this is a really great wired headset for long PS4 or PS5 gaming sessions. I'm currently using it with my PS5. It feels really comfortable and is easily adjustable for multiple users if needed. It is also fairly lightweight but still feels very sturdy. The microphone boom is also really easy to adjust so folks can clearly hear you. The sound quality is really great too - I would say on par with any high end gaming headset. I can pick up nuances in the game sound that I would typically need to use my surround sound system for when I'm not playing online, so I don't feel like I'm losing anything using these over my sound system connected to my TV. Folks can also hear me really well when I used it for online gaming. They say I come through Crystal Clear. The Playstation logo on each earpiece adds an authentic look to them when used for PS4 or PS5 gaming. Overall, I highly recommend this gaming headset for PS4 or PS5 gaming - from the sound quality to the microphone bringing your voice through crystal clear and without lag, it's a great addition to any PlayStation gamer's setup.

I wasn’t expecting a lot from these cans because this particular model is entry level but I still expect a certain degree of wearability even from entry-level headphones. I have worn these for three hours and they don’t give my ears any problems at all. In fact, I think I can wear them for longer and that surprises me. The microphone is easily good enough to be heard by your team and isn’t that the point? I constantly did check in to see how I was coming through and everyone agreed that it was time for me to shut up about my microphone and that it was working. I’m amazed in this day and age how much you can get out of a starter headset and while I wouldn’t want to listen to music on these, for their intended purpose, which is wired plugged-in gaming on the PlayStation 5 specifically, they are more than adequate. Even the build quality shines for a pair of entry-level headphones as I can see these lasting easily as long as the PlayStation 5 lasts. If you’re looking for a great starter headphone set to join in the conversation, these will work great.

RIG R5 SPEAR PRO WIRED GAMING OVER-EAR HEADSET

So I received my new RIG R5 Spear Pro Wired Headset for my PS5 about a week ago and have been putting it through its paces. First off this is my first time trying a RIG headset, so I’m hoping it lives up to the hype. Unboxing: * RIG R5 Spear Pro Wired Headset w/Non Detachable Mic/Mute Arm * Mod Plate Set * User Documentation Now I must say as I unboxed the headset, I was thoroughly impressed with its build quality. Feels solid and sturdy and not cheap. The top part of the headset as with many other headsets is extendable to fit those of us with larger domes. The earcuffs I feel could have been a tad bit larger to accomdatoe for those of use with larger ears, however, its not a dealbreaker. The cuffs did feel somewhat comfortable on my ears during gameplay, however, a tad bit larger and they probably would have been even more comfortable. On what I assume is the left earcuff is the attached mic/mute arm. When it’s down, you can speak to others while playing games and raise it up to mute. I said I assume it was the left earcuff, due to not necessarily seeing any markings to differentiate between the left and right earcuffs. They’re both the same, with the exception of one having a mic attached (which is not removable). Once I plugged the headset into my PS5 controller it automatically started working. While it wasn’t the loudest headset I’ve ever used the volume was nice and clear. I could hear things off in the distance that I would normally probably not hear. You could hear footsteps creeping up behind you. Something I noticed about the headset is that the ear-cushions actually come off, which is pretty cool, I guess if you want to like clean them with a soft damp cloth. Also included in the package are Mod Plates that go on the outer sides of the earcuffs. From what I can tell they don’t provide any other purpose than to maybe cover up the RIG branding which is on the sides of the earcuffs and replaces them with the usual PlayStation “PS” logo. All in all I think this is a decent set of wired headphones for anyone on the market looking for a decent set.
