It sounds like you have some concerns about the features of the Ring Alarm Motion Detector. A Ring Alarm Base Station is required for the Ring Alarm Motion Detector. The Ring Alarm Motion Detector is designed to detect when there is heat or movement in your home. When armed, the motion detector will trigger your Ring alarm, letting you know that an event has occurred. Visit our support center for more information.

It sounds like your device is not performing as you expected. The Ring Alarm Contact Sensor expands your Ring Alarm system to secure each door and window in your home, and you can get alerts as soon as they open. Below are some steps to reset your Ring Alarm Contact Sensor:
Slide the Contact Sensor off its base. Ensure that the batteries are installed and that you are within three to five feet of the Base Station.
Use a pin, paperclip, or sim card ejector to press and hold the pinhole reset button.
After the LED light turns off, release the reset button.
Re-add the Contact Sensor to your Ring Alarm using the Ring app.
