Worst experience ever. Nothing but headaches with ring. If I could go back and get another brand I would do it in a split second. Poor customer service and support. The app is useless most of the time.

This system did not work upon set up and in fact took 2 hours, with a customer service rep, to get any headway. 2 hours and a very inconsiderate representative. I completely regret this purchase and the treatment.

After evaluating a bunch of systems I decided to try this to replace my older Ademco Vista system in my home. My first kit had some issues with the Base Station, I had difficulties getting it to connect to Wi-Fi, and then after 7-8 tries and 2 factory resets of the Base, I finally got it connected; but then it disconnected later. I chalked it up to maybe a bad Wi-Fi radio in the unit, and of course this tested my confidence in the system because - what else could be wrong? This is a home security system, not a microwave -- issues in this "appliance" need to be taken seriously. Anyway, I returned it for an even exchange. Next kit didn't have that issue, however, one of the contacts wouldn't connect to the base. Called Support and waited about 20 minutes. The person I spoke with ("Mike B.") was SUPER helpful and professional and walked me thru a factory reset of the contact, after which point it connected fine. I am still a little wary of that particular device so I've put it in my least-critical area of the home for now, and will try to keep an eye out for issues. But I guess it seems OK. Other than those speed bumps it's been working fine. There are more features I'd like to see (disable entry delay on certain sensors, voice chime, guest PINs without accounts, etc. - common requests) but overall it's a very cost-effective system which seems to have the right security approach. Hoping to see it mature over the next year or two, most of which I imagine can be done in software without having to replace devices. The initial stumbles I had did make me a little nervous about it but I'm going to stick with it and would recommend considering it.

I love my Ring Alarm System so much I actually felt it necessary to write a review. Everything connected easily, set up was easy, and it is exactly what I was looking for. If you want your own DIY alarm system, this is it. If you want to monitor it on your own you can. If you dont, you pay $10 dollars a month and ring will for you. The only reason I dont have it at a 5 star (yet) is because the sales guy at Best Buy told me the alarm system was integrated with my doorbell camera and spotlight camera which is more on Best Buy than ring. He said if the alarms went off both cameras would start recording. Well I went home and tested this and it didnt work. Spoke with Ring customer service (which is by far the best customer service Ive experienced) and they told me they hadnt heard about this yet.I am a little bummed because that was one of my bigger sells to buying this. However, Im confident enough that Ring will eventually make this happen as they are constantly improving their products through software updates and new products.

    It has potential

I bought this system to replace a more traditional and outdated system that I've had for about 6 years. This is not a perfect system, but it's a good start and it has a lot of potential. As other reviewers have pointed out, getting started with the setup can take a couple of tries. You have to pair the base station via bluetooth to your phone in order to set up the wifi on it. I was able to pair it twice, but each time once I had to enter my wifi password, it took me back to the screen to pair it. The third time went smoothly. After that, the sensors and keypad were able to pair to the base station without an issue. The motion sensor is great. They can be placed pretty high up the walls, which is good, especially since the competitor suggests theirs be placed 4-5' off the ground. The app allows you to set the sensitivity of the motion detector. You can also set it to chime like a contact sensor normally would, but that seems a bit pointless to me. The contact sensors are huge. Both parts are practically double the size of the ones used by my old security company. Also, the contact sensors only chime when opened, but not again when closed. This would be a nice option to have added in a future update. Regarding the keypad, this is just a personal opinion, but the design of the keypad is atrocious. It's all plastic and it's very reminiscent of a Playskool toy. Going through the options on the app, by removing "Power Save Mode" you can have it so they keys will light it when it senses motion. This would be useful to enter your code at night. Also, it's good that you have the option to keep your keypad always plugged in or simply charge the battery and run it unplugged. Whenever you arm or disarm the alarm, you have to enter your code. It's a bit annoying that you can't just push or hold down the home/away buttons to arm the system. I'd assume this is because in theory they'd like each person who has access to have their own code since you can track who arms or disarms the alarm on the app. The siren on the base station is pretty loud. Unless you have a pretty big house, you probably don't need an additional siren. The base station also announces when the system is armed or disarmed... the keypad does the same; it wouldn't be annoying if they actually made the announcement in sync, but the keypad is always behind a few seconds. This is probably useful if you have an additional keypad in the bedroom or another room. My base station and keypad are in the same room, so it's just a bit annoying. I will most likely disable sound on the keypad. The base station can be mounted on the wall or laid on a table. I have very high ceilings, so I mounted mine about 14 feet up the wall. I also drilled a hole on the wall behind my base station to run the power cord through the attic so I wouldn't have any cables showing. Overall, it's a good system. And you can't beat $10/month or $100/year for monitoring. The competitor (which I use in another home) charges $25/month to be able to use the app. This system has a lot of areas for improvement, some of which can be implemented through updates. No glass break detectors are available, though they've been claiming almost since they released the alarm that they were in the works. Also, it would be nice to have to base station or keypad speak a bit more, like by announcing when a sensor is triggered, "Front door open," for example. Apparently Amazon owns Ring now, so hopefully Alexa integration is coming.

Hi neighbor, using the Alexa Guard feature, you can connect your Amazon Echo device to your Ring Alarm and detect the sounds of a smoke alarm, CO alarm, or glass breaking. Alexa will then notify you about the event. Best, The Ring Team Ring

    Great system-One Major Flaw

Just picked this up the other day and it's been pretty good for us so far. The only issue that I have found is with the motion detection feature. It seems like a software issue that I hope they implement an update for. The issue is as follows: Once the motion detector detects motion, it goes into a "motion detected" state. Then in about three minutes, it checks to see if there's any motion and if not, it clears the fault. The issue with this is if you walk past the sensor and it senses you, and then you arm the system and leave, the motion sensor is still in the "motion detected" when the alarm actually is armed. Therefore the alarm goes off. This really hinders being able to arm the system as you leave the house. Please fix this issue!!!

I purchased this the week it came out. So far I'm am very pleased with the use and look of the system. Setup was very easy and the system works pretty much as I expected. At this time, I am not going with the professional monitoring but that is a possibility later. There are a few little things I could quibble about but I feel confident that with user feedback, there will be more options and continued improvements. I am quite satisfied for a brand new product.

Great system and easy to use and setup. Download the app and you have your whole house security right in the palm of your hand. I only have a couple of complaints, first one is sometimes it takes a long time for my cell to connect to the base and I don't know if it's the app that's causing this, because my signal is strong. And second the backup cellular company if your wifi fails is AT&T and their reception in my area is horrible so the signal is really weak! Hopefully they can expand their coverage area in the future or Ring let's consumers use their own cellular company.

I bought my first house this year and my monthly budget has become very tight. I decided to invest in Ring products for security. I purchased two spotlight cams and this kit at the most affordable prices with yearly $100 subscription service. I could not be happier, has just what I wanted and saved me a bundle from other competitors. I love how easy it is to install and the honest affordable subscription is outstanding. It cannot be beat!

This system is pretty good for the launch of the product. I would agree with Randy on some things need to be improved 1. I would also like the alerts to be sent to me regardless of my settings. 2. Also the sensors are really big compared to other systems I have used. Wish they would make them smaller. 3. Please get better adhesive tape for the sensors. The tape for the longer sensor is horrible and does not stay stuck. 4. Please add a remote control for the system. Kinda of a hassle to use the iPhone app to turn on/off the alarm

Switched from SimpliSafe and not looking back! Lower cost of professional monitoring, potential for future integration with Alexa and other z-wave products, use of internet with cellular backup. The only reasons I am not giving it 5 stars are: Bulky sensors, no Ring integration yet, No Amazon Alexa integration yet, limited 3rd party integration.
