    So far, pretty good

We bought this a few days ago and installation has gone mostly smoothly. I say mostly as it required a few calls to Ring - one of the sensors was DOA and two others (from separate packages) had to be hard reset before they were recognized by the system. This said, support has been exemplary and Ring sent me out a replacement for the defective sensor via FedEx 2-Day. I will update as I expand the system and get more seat time.

    Best alarm for DIY people!

After a long wait for the release of the Ring Alarm I snagged one up on the first day it became available and my experience has been absolutely flawless. I love the ability to configure and customize the system to fit my needs. if you already own any of the Ring cameras or plan to in the future, the Ring Alarm makes perfect sense as all of your security devices can be combined within a single app. Price-wise there's no comparison to other systems for the hardware or the professional monitoring. $10 a month for professional or $0 if you choose to self monitor. Since I am already paying $10 per month for my other three Ring Video camera cloud storage, the professional monitoring is essentially free. Keep up the good work Ring and i'll keep coming back for more!

    Cannot Beat the Price!

Love this system. You cannot beat the price for what you get. No contracts and only costs 10/month. If you already have ring products, this product integrates perfectly within their app. Installation took less then an hour. No issues with any sensors. I bought add-on contact sensors and connected without any problems. the 199.00 price tag beats nests hands down. Yes, nest has more features but if you are looking for an simple alarm system that you can add onto, this is perfect

    Reserving my opinion

I bought this system after reviewing all of its competitors and it sounded like a really good system and easy to set up. There are several of the items that are easy to set up. However go slowly when setting them up because sometimes it appears you need to hit "next" to continue, but you may not be quite through with that step. You have one shot at setting this up, you cannot go back. Example: while positioning the motion detector a light will flash when it detects motion. Once setup is completed you cannot go back into setup mode if you want to move it. I guess you could remove the item and start over, not sure. One thing I am definitely not pleased with and they do not tell you this anywhere is the motion detector reset period . BEWARE,,,if you trip the motion detector it has a 3 minute reset period. If you trip it on your way to set your alarm, and set your alarm before the 3 minute reset period, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY BYPASS THE MOTION DETECTOR with no notification!! If a door or window sensor is open it will prompt you to bypass that item or correct it before arming. Not so with the motion detector. When I was speaking with customer service about this their solution was to arm the system remotely after the reset period. I think this is something that definitely should be improved. I should not have to wait three minutes every time I need to arm the system. One thing that is awesome is their customer support. I spoke with a representative on the phone and also had two chat sessions. ALL answered my questions and were very helpful. Wait time was not too long and they follow up with an email if you need more assistance. I am still learning the system and some are my errors, but I think there is room for improving some of the setup. I will be reserving my judgment after using past the 7 day learning period.

    Great modular alarm system

The price of this alarm system is unbeatable not to mention it integrates nicely with my Ring doorbell. One thing that it absolutely needs to compete with the other brands of house alarm systems is glass break sensors. Other than that I love it!

Hi neighbor, using the Alexa Guard feature, you can connect your Amazon Echo device to your Ring Alarm and detect the sounds of a smoke alarm, CO alarm, or glass breaking. Alexa will then notify you about the event. Best, The Ring Team Ring

Could be better, Crippled by DESIGN!

I purchased the Ring Doorbell a while back and happily paid for the online recording service, it was about $30/yr. That all went well so I looked at Ring for my security system and finally bought this. Install was simple enough if you understand the basics of your WIFI network and how security systems work. The app is where the failures come in. RING has a pop-up every 24 hrs in the app that tries to sell you on the upgrade to their full monitoring, which I am not interested in (I am perfectly happy with self monitoring). This pop-up has a "Learn More" button, guess what happens when you click it???? NOTHING. It has a dismiss button, thankfully that works and it goes away (for 24 hrs). I contacted RING support and they tell me this IS by design and intentional. So - if you want to pestered to no end EVERY. SINGLE. DAY., go ahead and buy this system. I am seriously regretting it and thinking I should have bought the pricier Nest system (I have the thermostat already).

Good, BUT could easily be great.

Accidentally set off the alarm in the AM when walking to the kitchen due to no entry delay setting on the motion sensor. The work-around is to remove it from home mode. But isn't great in case burglar was able to bypass contact sensors. Would be more useful if it allowed an entry delay of 15 seconds on the motion sensor in home mode. So one can have a chance to disable alarm when the keypad is in the kitchen.

    Great for 1 major flaw

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The system is very easy to install and works as promised and the subscription rate is very low (10 per month). The system does currently have 1 major flaw. When one sets the alarm for "home" it's impossible to set NO ENTRY DELAY - meaning if someone breaks into your home in the middle of the night they can be in your house for 30 seconds before the alarm goes off. 30 seconds is a very long time. I've spoken to Ring about this but their position is this helps eliminate false alarms. Maybe, but it gives access to you for 30 seconds before anything happens. This is not smart and could be deadly. If someone from the outside opens a window or door in my house I want to hear it now, not when the intruder is already inside my bedroom. Until Ring fixes this I would stay away from purchasing.

    Poor Window Sensors

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I am a 1st time security system purchaser who did my research prior to purchase. The system overall is nice, but the window sensors are poor (1 of 3 are working for me). One shows "tampered" and the other "window is open". When I called ring's customer service this morning, I was sent a help video for a competitor's security system, after I had already watched many videos (for the correct vendor) before calling ring tech support. After about 25 minutes on the phone, ring's rep was unable to resolve the issue. Now I will likely purchase motion sensors separately and trash the poor window sensors. I am disappointed.

    Not what they promised

System works well but they still don't offer the flood and freeze alarm 6 months later even though listing showed when I bought it that would be available soon. Almost impossible to get customer support but once I did, no one knows when it will be available still. Its 0 here and I work 45 minutes away. I bought it counting on the flood and freeze alarm as they promised. I would have gone with any of the competition had I known. Also still no auxiliary siren which was also promised soon. Go with a company that supports their products.

I really wanted to like this system. I have been using now for almost three months. I have had so many issues with the contact sensors that I cannot even count. It’s impossible to keep them all working as they stop working randomly for no good reason requiring you to repair all over. Also I have had the base stop working randomly. Requiring another set up. I can’t see how this is functional when you have to constantly reconnect everything. I really really wish I went with something more reliable.

Crappy base station- keeps dropping wifi signal

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Base station keeps on disconnecting from wifi and going to cellular backup. I called customer service, they spent hour troubleshooting and nothing worked. Then they asked me that they will study logs. After consistently following up, they gave explanation that issue with ISP probably and asked to connect the device to ethernet or buy access point. I called optimum, they didn't understand anything ring tech team mentioned about association errors. They told no issue detected from there side and there has been no drop on modem/wifi signals yesterday and today. Asked me to contact ring guys as it seems problem with your base station only. I dont have ethernet port and can't use ethernet cable as I would have to put base station in study room (where i have cable connection n modem set up) and not entryway. Siren wont be heard from study room in whole house. Violates whole purpose of putting in alarm system to avoid burglary. I dont want to buy access point now just to make ring alarm system work probably. Kind of unnecessary expense to me when all my smart devices in house work perfectly except for ring base station. I was expecting ring tech team to provide some sensible solution as lot of people complained on internet about this issue but really disappointed with ring devices and whole technical customer service.

Junk not ready for full use

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had Best Buy install the system in my Charlotte, NC home. Worked good for a few weeks then had to reset system a few times. I left the house for Florida snow bird time; had a neighbor check the house and was able to to turn off alarm when he came. Now, the alarm said it was “off line” and I needed to reset the system. Duh, I’m not there to do this. Am I supposed to fly back there? If you do an on line search you will see this is a common problem that Ring won’t acknowledge or fix so now I have a useless system. I think they were in a hurry to get the product out for Amazon and have a not ready for prime time product. System reliability is crucial in the security business. I suggest you try other more mature products.BTW, I had scheduled Best Buy to install another Ring system in Florida but that is never going to happen.

Don't want to be a beta tester for security system

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I received this system as a gift 2 weeks ago and it worked for 2 weeks. We went on vacation and when we came home we could not disarm the alarm and the base station was making a cracking noise from the speaker. Got on the phone with support and they want to send me a new base station in maybe 3 days. So I have to go that long without any security for my house. That is unacceptable. I guess you get what you pay for in this case. I will be returning this unit and looking at something more reliable. Buyer beware. If you want a reliable alarm check out the others available. If you want something that "might work" well then maybe the Ring system is for you. Maybe in a couple years they will have this working. Customer support couldn't even get someone from the alarm division on the line to troubleshoot. What a joke.

    Total waste of money/time

You get what you pay for!!! I wasted a few hours on the setup and it still isn’t working. Sadly, the security system was put under a different location than the rest of my ring products. Nether can be moved since that feature doesn’t work. Spent 90 minutes on the phone with Ring’s customer service but in the end they were unable to solve the issue. Seems like they rushed out a untested system. I would have expected a better product especially considering that it was released 1 year behind schedule. If ring can't fix it soon I will take return the piece of crap.

I was excited to install the Ring Alarm, but that quickly went away. Plugged in the basestation and nothing. Tried different outlets and nothing. It appears the unit is Dead on Arrival. Not a good start to a device that I am securing my family and property with.

    Too Buggy still

This product was rushed to market too soon and is too buggy. The app crashes Android often. They say they works with products like Quikset, Google home and Alexa but the features are still a work in progress. The alarm app does NOT allow with control or pairing with z wave gear so you have to have multiple apps to run anything. Do Not Buy This Product!
