The Ring Alarm Contact Sensor (2nd Gen) is designed as part of the Ring Alarm security system and requires either a Ring Alarm Base Station or Ring Alarm Pro to function. This requirement is mentioned on the product page, which notes that Ring Alarm or Ring Alarm Pro is necessary for the Contact Sensor to work. It communicates with the Base Station using Z-Wave technology with a range of approximately 250 feet in open air, line of sight. The Ring Alarm Contact Sensor (2nd Gen.) allows you to expand your Ring Alarm system to secure each door and window in your home and get alerts as soon as they open. The Ring Alarm and all Ring Alarm accessories require a subscription for in-app features and digital notifications, including digital arming and disarming and integration with other Ring, Echo, Alexa, and third-party products. Use of the Ring Alarm Contact Sensor (2nd Gen.) requires the Ring Alarm Base Station.
