This Ring-Battery Doorbell is a big improvement over the previous model it is replacing. It was very easy to mount and setup was quick and simple. It was able to connect to my old solar panel so it has been above 95% for over a week now even with some of the capture settings increased slightly. Installation only requires two screws and zero wring thanks to the integrated battery. I do have a couple of issue with the design of the doorbell though. First, the battery is integrated into the device so I am and pretty sure it cannot be replaced, so when the battery goes I would need to replace the entire doorbell. I would prefer the quick swappable batter like the older model that I have owned for years now. I don't like the planned obsolesce it feels wasteful. Second, because of the integrated battery you must remove the entire device from the mount to charge which leaves you door unmonitored. Third, the USB-C port is on the backside of the device where there is an small rubber plug that is not tethered to the doorbell at all and I almost lost it while unboxing and initially charging. Finally there is the subscription plan... If you have an existing Ring doorbell and have paid for the year there is no place to go online to transfer the new doorbell to the existing plan. I had to call the customer service number and ask them to transfer. However they did not transfer but cancelled the current plan and enrolled the new doorbell to its own plan. I could have done this online, but If I had done this online I would not have received any refund for the cancelled plan. This was very inconvenient.

I already own a Google ecosystem with the Google pixel 10 XL indoor cameras and Google Max display by my bedside as well as a few speakers throughout the house. So when I add this Google product, it was easy to believe that this was going to be a easy ad to my already cool ecosystem. Installing is just that installing you got to put some time and effort into it or be sure to hire someone who can get it done for you. Now adding it again to my ecosystem was quite simple. It already goes with the Google app if you already have it. It comes with its own but not necessarily needed. I've already seen a slight downturn in unnecessary traffic near and around my door. I got a lot of neighborhood goofball children and it's never really a problem to begin with but the extra add of security is fantastic. I like being able to see who's at my door. I like to see who's coming and going. I like to see how long somebody stood there. I like to see my packages. I like the deterrents. It's very nice. I highly recommend everyone have a ring doorbell camera or something to that effect for their homes as everyone needs a little security. One of my favorite Google products to date.

The video doorbell was the easiest installation among all the Ring devices (we have a few) and other systems. We got the wireless version. The packaging was minimal. There were no extra plastics or cardboard to dig through to get to the product. Yet, everything came neatly and securely packed. I have to note that the lack of plastic was impressive and environmentally responsible. The USB-C charging port came with a tiny plastic protective insert. That is such a smart addition for outdoor devices. A charger is not included, but since it uses a standard USB charger, that is not an issue. It arrived around 60% charged and went down to 28% in one week. The device will likely need to be charged once every two or three weeks, depending on the weather. Installation was simpler than expected. The last time I installed a Ring device, the QR code was too small for my phone camera to scan. That was a frustrating experience. They made the QR code bigger this time, thankfully. The software is super easy and user-friendly. It took a few minutes to update and was easily added to the existing app. I love the option of connecting it with Alexa or an existing Ring Chime. I opted to receive alerts on my phone. It is super helpful to receive personalized alerts for each device. Installation was super easy. The doorbell comes with a lever for easy dismounting. I like it better than the sharp tool I need to dismount my other doorbell. The lever is more user-friendly and age-friendly than expecting users to locate a tiny hole underneath the doorbell and insert a pin in the correct place. Also, the lever is bright orange. If left in a drawer with a pile of items, I can imagine that the little bright orange lever would be easy to locate. I am grateful to the designers for thinking about senior users. The area covered by the camera is not as large as that of a mounted camera, but it is large enough to serve the purpose of a doorbell. Once mounted, the device can be adjusted at several angles to get the exact coverage according to the user’s preference. My house is 20 feet away from a busy state highway with heavy traffic. The moving cars are not setting off the activity warnings. Only human movement about 15 feet away seems to trigger motion detection. I was surprised to see that my 12-year-old daughter was identified as a “child” and adults were identified as “person.” The event descriptions are amazingly accurate. For example: “person walking on the pathway with a dog on a leash” and “person standing on the doormat.” The app is excellent, with snooze, event history, and other useful options. The alerts and notifications can be shared with other family members very easily, without extra downloads, which is very helpful. The best part is being able to connect it with other devices and control everything easily through the app. The gray-and-black design is attractive and not overly conspicuous. There is a slight lag in the video, which could be improved. The communication feature is sharp and clear. Night vision is sharp as well. Overall, The Ring wireless video doorbell is easy to install, user-friendly, and offers clear video, sharp audio, accurate motion detection, and useful app features. Its thoughtful design, environmentally conscious packaging, and seamless integration with other Ring devices make it a practical and reliable choice, though the video occasionally experiences slight lag.

The Ring Battery Doorbell (2nd Gen) is larger and heavier than earlier Ring doorbells. It is approximately 6” long and about 10oz in weight compared earlier models. When installing, make sure it is anchored correctly, as it is heavier than earlier models. The Box includes - Battery doorbell (2nd Gen), Back plate, back plate removal tool, (to remove the doorbell for charging), Screws with anchors, Ring Sticker, and Pamphlet with barcode to scan for completed setup. The entire Doorbell needs to be removed for charging unless it is hardwired (which it is compatible with). The hardwiring hardware is NOT included, neither is the USB-C charging cable. The Ring Batter Doorbell (2nd Gen) does NOT have a removable battery. The battery is built in. Therefore, it needs to be removed to be charged with the USB-C cable. The Doorbell (2nd Gen) comes 30% charged and should be charged completely before installation. It took me 10-12 hours to fully charge. I charged it overnight. This doorbell is replacing my older front door Ring Doorbell. This new Video Doorbell gives me better viewing angles, clearer videos, and full person viewing. Specs briefly: - Retinal 2k with up to 6x enhanced zoom - Head to Toe video - Live view and 2-way talk - Crisp true-to-life video with more clarity for low light conditions - Can be connected to Ring Chime or Chime Pro, Or Standard Router - It can be hardwired for constant charging and for use with standard indoor chimes. - 140° horizontal, 140° vertical viewing angles, with 173° Diagonal viewing - 2.4Ghz WiFi only (not dual band) - Can be charged with doorbell solar panel (sold separately) for continuous charging if not hardwired. Observations: - It takes a long time to charge if low charge below 50%. I charged it when I got it (at 30%) and it took 12 hours just to reach 99%. I’m not sure if it would have eventually reached 100% as I gave up at 99% because I wanted to install it. - Back plate is plastic and on the flimsy side. Not sure how many times the doorbell can be removed before it breaks or the removal tool (also plastic) breaks. Therefore, I hardwired mine, so I did not have to worry about that. - Needs to be hard wired or charged by solar panel to constantly trickle charge. - 6x zoom is ok, not as sharp as the standard 1x-4x zoom where the video is still nice and clear. After 4x zoom the video starts getting pixelated to view clearly. - There are 2 ways to save videos, download on your device, purchase a Ring Plan on the website, and download them to your device from there. - There are 4 Ring Plans to choose from: o Basic plan (Ring Solo) – One camera only o Ring Multiplan – all cameras at the same location. o Ring Pro – includes familiar faces, 24/7 active monitoring, and more. o Virtual Security Guard – includes everything in the above plans plus Live 24/7 video monitoring, intruder deterrent in Real-Time, Proactive verified dispatch, and more. - Each plan is higher in cost either per month or per year. I just have the Ring Multi plan which is perfect for me. You can check the Ring Website for a detailed description of each plan. - My suggestion is to at least get the Ring Solo plan for just one camera as you can save and download videos from the website. If you decide to get more cameras, then I suggest the Ring Multi plan minimum. This way, no matter how many cameras you have, you can save all the videos for each camera in the website cloud instead of just the one camera. - I have 4 cameras at this time, and I will be getting more, so the Multi Plan works perfectly for me. The Ring App - The Ring App is available on several devices, including iOS, Android, iPad tablets, and Amazon Fire tablets. - You can check your plan on the app but can only make change to your plan on the Ring Website. - The app also has a dashboard where you can see all your cameras at the same time and just click on the one you want to check the videos on. - The App has many functions that you can use, modes, mute cameras, check battery charge, etc. Exploring the App is easy as it has a menu (3 bars) at the top left of the dashboard that lets you choose which device you want to see, general settings, updates, new products. - There is also a tab called Neighbors. This tab allows you to set a specific area that you want any type of notifications on. The site is free to subscribe to. Negatives: - Be advised that when you set up the Ring Battery Doorbell (2nd Gen), the setting page will display “hardwired” even if you have only on Battery. It seems to be the default, and you can’t physically change it. It will, however, let you know when the battery is running low. - Since the battery is permanently installed, it can’t be swapped out to charge the older Ring Doorbells. The entire doorbell must be removed to charge it up. - It can be hardwired to your existing chime system where the doorbell with keep trickle charging constantly. If you can hardwire it, I suggest you do so. It’ll make your life easier. You may have to purchase a hardwire kit from the Ring website. That depends on your doorbell system. - When you charge the Ring Battery Doorbell, there is a small plug in the back of the main bell, that has the charging port. There is a plug in the port to keep covered and protected from the elements. The problem is that plug is not attached to the doorbell so you should make sure you put it in a safe place, so it doesn’t get lost. I recommend this doorbell with reservations due to the negative aspects listed above. It’s OK if this is your first Video Doorbell and it can be hardwired or attached to a solar panel, but personally, I prefer the older models where the battery is removable and can be swapped out with a full battery while the used one is charging. This way, you don’t lose any video of events at your door.

So I have used several video doorbells from Ring and other manufacturers. With this updated model from Ring I expected a slightly better experience than my previous Ring doorbell, but I have been left a little disappointed. The setup process is easy and straightforward. Download or open the Ring app, scan the QR code, connect to Wi-Fi, sign-in or create your account, and you're in business. Now, just install the doorbell and adjust the settings. The Ring app has a pretty nice layout. Your devices are displayed in a list format with a preview window as soon as you open the app. There are a decent number of settings which make personalizing your device easy. You can customize notification types and styles, detection types and zones, which alerts you want to receive, link devices, check the health and battery level, adjust power settings, and much more. I appreciate that events can be viewed in both a timeline view and chronological view. The two-way audio works well in both directions. Voices are fairly clear and the speaker is loud enough for visitors to hear. Unfortunately the biggest downfall with this doorbell is the video quality. I have placed the doorbell in a few different locations and adjusted the settings repeatedly, all with lackluster results. Image and video quality are grainy and unclear, especially in lower lighting conditions such as overcast skies and evening. The zoom yields virtually unusable results. With video quality being the most important factor in a doorbell of this type, I'm left pretty underwhelmed overall. I really did not think this is something I would be saying, but I find it hard to recommend this particular version of Ring's doorbell.

Having had two previous gens of the Ring Doorbell, I'm familiar enough with the product and as such wasn't expecting to be as blown away this newest model as I was. Picture quality is beautiful, day and night. Zoom is crystal clear across my entire driveway and front yard. Improvements in notifications/on-screen recognition is amazing. Getting a heads up that something as specific as "Delivery driver with two boxes approaching" or "landscaper is mowing your yard" is a welcome addition as it saves me from even happening to open the app. Long gone are the days of "motion detected". Slightly narrower and higher quality finish than previous models, the mounting bracket now requires a special key (orange so it's easy to see, but small so it's easy to lose) to remove for charging. As soon as I saw this I thought, "great...something else for me to keep track of." But that aside, nothing much to gripe about. The app interface is simple and straight forward, if you have other cameras with Ring switching between them is as easy as clicking the drop down and selecting it. You get a 30-day free Premium trial, which mainly gives you access to your archive of clips and is well worth it, imo.
