I ve talked via my I Phone and was told that the quality of the voice coming through the doorbell was not very good. Of course I may be doing something wrong....?

It says there is a setting to record a specific amount of time but automatically turns off no matter what setting is on. We tried every single combination of settings and it just turns off and on when it feels like it. I wish we had gotten anything.

Being able to rely on the alerts to know when someone is on your property is an essential feature of the Ring Battery Doorbell Plus. We want to work with you to make sure we get this feature working optimally for your home's environment. We are confident we can resolve this together today.
It sounds like your device is not picking up motion as expected. For the best results, you will want to be sure the device is mounted at about 4 feet (1.20 meters) above the ground. If it is mounted too high, it is more likely to catch vehicles driving by than people near the device. In the event that your device is mounted too high, a wedge kit can be installed to angle it downward. This will improve motion detection near the device.
The Ring app gives you the power to control how long your Ring devices record events. By lowering or raising your video recording length, you can either record longer events to capture more detail or record shorter events to preserve battery life. Follow these steps to adjust your device's recording length:
Open the Ring app and tap on the Menu (≡).
Tap Devices.
Tap on the device you wish to adjust.
Tap Device Settings.
Tap Video Settings.
Tap Recording Length.
Tap Record For.
When the list appears, you can select a preferred recording length, such as:
15 seconds
20 seconds
25 seconds
30 seconds
60 seconds
90 seconds
120 seconds
