Only negative thing I have noticed is if the sun is able to shine towards it the battery will die faster so have a back up battery if you want to have video while battery charges.

It is attractive on my front porch, it warns of any "activity" near my porch, and it connects with my home network and Ring app, with high-quality video that shows a decent horizontal and vertical view. I don't yet know how long the battery will last ... but I will try to remember to update this review when I know the answer.

It sounds like you are concerned with the need for the Ring Home Plan subscription. The Ring Home Plan provides valuable capabilities, such as accessing paid features and the ability to save, download, and review footage captured by your Ring device. Without a Ring Home Plan, you can still view real-time video for Ring doorbells and cameras and answer doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don’t get video recordings of those events.
