The Outdoor Cam Pro is easy to set up and configure, its app is one of the best on the market and super easy to navigate. Outdoor Cam Pro has some standout features such as amazon sidewalk which allows your camera to work even when your internet goes down. This added with the neighbor’s feature and AI powered search party ( both of these are community-based features that allow you to find lost pets and alert neighbors about potential issues) helps differentiate the camera from others.
Pros:
Audio: This is by far the best Microphone/Speaker set up I have ever used. The speaker is loud and clear, I have the camera placed at the corner of my garage and can have a conversation with someone at the entrance of my driveway that’s how loud the audio is. No other wired or wireless camera competes when it comes to audio.
Video: The video quality is excellent during daytime and even during nighttime the black and white video works amazing. The colors are excellent and you can make out rich details on everything. The low light sight features will give you full color even with a little bit of street lighting, but I did notice with the low light sight feature you will get ghosting on people that are 5 to 7 feet from the camera. I was impressed with how quickly the video loads when I am away from home and scrubbing through events is super smooth. While there is no 24/7 feature the camera will take still pictures throughout the day to gives you a timelapse effect when you are scrubbing through the video.
Cons:
Detections: While the camera did a good job with detections it did not do great with notifications. As an example someone walked onto my drive path and walked back I would not get an alert when they walked back. This must be an issue with the cool down period for alerts as the camera would record the motion, however it would not send me an alert about it. There were no false alerts, but this is a given as everything is being processed in the cloud
AI: The Outdoor Cam Pro has a AI description option that lets you know what the camera is seeing. The AI detections do work however there isn’t much descriptions about the movements. I have used other budget cameras that provide details about the person in sight along with what the person is doing in the recording. All I got from the Outdoor Cam Pro was “person walked across driveway”. At first, I thought this was because the recording were being processed locally however this is not the case, all recordings are processed in the cloud. With that being the case, I am very surprised at how bad the AI descriptions are, I understand it’s a beta option but I was expecting much more.
The Outdoor Cam Pro is a nice addition if you already have a Ring security system. The neighbors feature along with amazon sidewalk and search party are amazing features that are beneficial for communities. While the video quality and playback speed are very impressive, I was not impressed with the AI features. Having everything sent to the cloud should mean much more detailed descriptions of what is happening on your property. I have also noticed that 7 GB of data is uploaded a day so for those on limited data plans or slow speeds you could run into trouble. Without having a local recording option, it is hard to recommend unless you’re already in the Ring ecosystem.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are always looking for ways to improve our neighbor's experience, and your feedback is an invaluable part of this process. That is why we are dedicated to offering devices that help you safeguard what is most important at home, while also allowing you to connect with your neighbors from anywhere. We’re glad to read that you are finding the provided features useful.
It sounds like you have some concerns with your device's motion detection. If your device appears to be missing a motion, you may want to check the motion frequency setting. The motion frequency control allows you to reduce alerts from repetitive patterns of motion or increase alerts so you get notified about the motion events that matter to you.
Follow these steps to adjust the motion frequency: Tap the menu (≡) on the top left of the Dashboard. Tap Devices. Select the device you'd like to adjust. Tap Motion Settings. Tap Advanced Settings. Tap Motion Frequency. Select Frequently, Regularly or Periodically. Frequently: Motion detection always stays active. Shortest battery life. Regularly: Motion detection takes a short break after each Motion Alert. Medium battery life. Periodically: Motion detection takes a longer break after each alert. Maximum battery life. Tap Save in the upper-right corner.

Exceptional Cam Addition to the Ring Ecosystem

The hardware of the Ring Outdoor Cam Pro is exceptional, top to bottom, video to audio. And the app, though looking a little dusty and outdated compared to competitors, gives you a lot more features to play with (if you pay for the subscription). I think this is a fantastic addition to your home if you are looking for an outdoor security camera and are already in the Ring ecosystem. Especially if you are looking for exceptional video and audio quality, without having to pay for floodlights. Our backyard neighbors are very grateful for swapping out our old spotlight model for this one. And as you can see by the attached photo, while my old Ring outdoor cam needed the spotlight as soon as the sun started setting, the new Outdoor Cam Pro doesn’t even really need spotlights at night (up to a certain distance).
Overall, I think this is an incredible consumer security camera for outdoor use (during setup it asks if you are using indoor or outdoor so it can easily be set up for indoor use too). I do have some quibbles with it, first being that the camera is extremely barebones if you don’t have a subscription. Essentially you can get motion alerts and live view, but no historical video saving (other competitors at least give you 24 hours). If I wake up and see that something triggered the motion alert in the backyard in the middle of the night and I don’t pay for a subscription, I just have to hope that it was nothing nefarious as there is no way to review what happened. But if you already pay for the multi-camera subscription, and are looking for the best video quality in a security camera, whether indoor or outdoor, I can see no better option then the Outdoor Cam Pro.
Pros:
Exceptional video quality
Amazing low light performance
Great audio quality
Lots of customization within the app
Easy to setup
Happy there is a high-end option without a spotlight
Cons:
Most features are behind subscription
Ring has had a tumultuous history with user privacy
App feels out of date compared to competitors
Cord is odd, has a little power brick in the middle that you have to deal with

I am extremely pleased with this camera as part of my setup! I have it monitoring my side yard and shed, and it is honestly doing a fantastic job with excellent angles and brilliant, clear images!
Setting up, as with every other Ring product I have installed (which is over two dozen now, between sensors, cameras, and related products), was very easy. Connection is incredibly stable over Wi-Fi and I the visual image is crisp and lovely to behold whether it is day or night vision being used.
Now for the quirks. You should just know that while this does use a USB-C plug, it requires about a 20-watt power supply, which is built into the cord. This works fine for my application, but some people might be disappointed that they can’t use a usual USB-C cable and plug into power the device. Furthermore, there is no battery backup and related feasible solar powering for this; a direct AC plug-in seems to be the way to go. While I have no problem with this in my application, I just want others to be aware of what they are getting into here.
Altogether, this camera gets a solid 5/5 stars for my Ring Security setup! I would highly recommend you check it out!

This Ring Outdoor Cam Pro has Retinal 4K for the ultimate wide-angle video, 10x Zoom, Low-Light Sight full-color in near dark. There are black and white options. I have the white one.
In the box, you get the Ring Outdoor Cam Pro, power cord and AC adapter, installation hardware, manual, warranty, safety, and legal papers.
Setup was simple. I downloaded the Ring application to my smartphone and added the camera. The instructions are in the application and are easy to follow.
Power Source is a cable with an AC Adapter that plugs in. The cable is extraordinarily long. There are no shorter cables that you can use with this camera.
Features of this camera are great and include 4K (2160p) video resolution, 3840 x 2160 camera resolution, excellent night vision, 33 feet distance of night vision, can be used indoors or outdoors, 2-way audio, 10x zoom that really works well, 3D motion detection that uses a radar to detect and send you alerts in real time.
Picture and video on this camera are awesome. The clarity of the picture, the vividness of the colors, the sharp blacks and whites in daylight and night vision are both stunning. I was in awe of how great the still shots looked that I took. I was also able to zoom in on a pigeon on my deck and watch it for a while before snapping a photo of it.
Mounting or standing it upright is a choice you have with this camera. I chose to stand it upright so that I can move it around as I decide where I want it permanently. It is weather resistant, so you can put it anywhere.
The Ring Application is a huge plus for this camera. This is how you control the camera and set it up. It is free to download from the App Store on your smartphone. This app lets you join the Ring Neighbors where you can post your videos to search for your lost pet or others can use your videos to search for their lost pet. It uses Smart Video Search. You get this with a Ring Home Plan that is optional, of course, but makes things easier for you to keep your home and family safe. You can set privacy zones. You can contact first responders through SOS, which you must set up on the Ring application. The cool things you can do is add familiar faces to your app so that it will tell you who it sees on your camera. It has AI features so that it can process the videos and collect the biometric information for the Familiar Faces. It will also give you AI video descriptions, which are pretty spot on. The other AI features are AI Video Search, that allows you to find videos with keywords, and AI Single Event Alert which will group related events together in a single alert.
Summary: I am really impressed with this Ring Outdoor Camera Pro, as it is indeed a professional-level camera.

The Ring Outdoor Pro 4K Security Camera is one of Ring’s latest offerings in their new Retinal 4K lineup. These build upon Ring’s robust camera offerings which have had full HD or higher resolution, color night vision, 3D motion detection, and more. After using this camera for a week, I can say there are very few drawbacks to this new lineup in terms of performance but it may be hard to justify in terms of value with a great 2K lineup also offered.
IN THE BOX:
- Outdoor Cam Pro (Plug In)
- USB-C Power Adapter
- Standard Mount + Wall Mount and Screw Kit
- Sticker
- User Manual
SETUP:
Ring cameras are extremely easy to set up, especially if you already have a Ring account. The camera comes with a 30 day trial of Ring Home, one of their paid plans with additional benefits such as up to 180 Days of Video Event History, unlimited devices at one location, person, package, and vehicle notifications, extended warranties, and more. After scanning the QR code on the camera within the Ring app, it prompted for a software update to be performed which only took about 1 minute.
BUILD QUALITY:
The Outdoor Cam Pro is very similar in construction to their products from the last several years. It is slightly larger in physical size than some of the older products which is likely due to the larger camera sensor and radar that the Pro has over the lesser cameras. It comes with a white plastic housing with a USB-C port on the back bottom if you opt for the plug in version.
FEATURES/VIDEO QUALITY:
With this new Retinal 4K lineup, it is important to note that the camera must be powered at all times. Unfortunately, battery is not an option with their 4K lineup like it is with the FHD or 2K cameras. This means you have a choice between Plug-In, Hardware, or POE+ power with this camera. The standard USB-C plug in model that I have comes with a long, flat type of power adapter with a voltage reducer in the middle. This should be long enough for many applications with a household outlet nearby, however, for long runs, it may be necessary to get a longer cable.
Ring touts the new Retinal 4K lineup to offer “up to 10x Enhanced Zoom” due to the greater resolution but I would say this is a very limited claim due to the digital compression that occurs with any cloud based security system. With that in mind, the quality is excellent. It’s much better than their HD offerings that have been around for years. The color, low light performance is something that stands out from my other Ring cameras I have currently. The 2-way talk and siren features perform just like their other cameras you might be used to.
One feature I really enjoy is the Lutron + Ring camera integrations. This allows for the Ring camera to activate the Lutron wall switches (lights) whenever motion is detected by the cameras. This is fantastic because it eliminates the need for extra spotlights if you have outdoor lights near the camera's location. I wish Lutron would allow one to control for how long the lights are activated but the only setting available is for 15 minutes and works fine.
APP:
After using the Ring app for over 2 years, I find it really great in some areas and really poor in others. I find the camera previews and accessory light controls very easy to access. The history and timelines for devices is pretty straightforward as well. When it comes to the different modes, scheduling devices, and things like this, I find it very confusing. It is important to note that if you don’t want law enforcement being able to access your camera footage during investigations or other relevant searches that you must opt out of this function. This is also true for the lost pet feature recently introduced.
PROS:
- Video Quality
- Motion Detection
- Low Light Video Quality
- Lutron + Ring Integration
- Design/Mounting Options
- POE+ Power Version Available
CONS:
- Price
- Plug-In Only Options (Cord Awkward)
- Local Recording (Only Available With Alarm Pro, Wifi Hub)
OVERALL:
The Ring Outdoor Pro 4K is a fantastic upgrade from older Ring cameras but it is less of an upgrade from the newer 2K cameras that have been recently released. If you’re using Ring hardware from several years ago AND are able to plug in the devices or use one of the other power methods, I would recommend upgrading to one of their newer camera offerings for the increase in video quality. If you’re new to the Ring camera ecosystem, the 4K and POE options would be great to help future proof your security system.

A couple of months back my family purchased Amazon's Echo Show 21 as we were eager to gain access to Alexa+ and have a large screen that would allow us to easily view our Video Doorbell. While we very much enjoyed using the Echo Show 21, our Nest Doorbell (now owned by Google) was poorly integrated with Amazon and didn't work well with our other Amazon devices. Because Amazon owns Ring, we figured we would have a better experience if we started transitioning over to Ring branded doorbells and cameras.
The video on the Ring Outdoor Cam Pro is excellent, but only when viewed from the Ring app. Strangely, the video quality suffers greatly when viewed from either the Amazon Alexa App, or when viewed through the Echo Show 21. My largest complaint is this video quality issue, which hopefully will be corrected someday with software fixes. But, Amazon has a long way to go with making Ring a seamless integration with their Amazon products. The Ring camera links quickly and easily with Amazon products - especially if you already have other Ring products, such as the Ring Doorbell. But, half of the time the user is required to use the Amazon App and half the time the Ring app must be used. I wish customers could stick with just one or the other.
Also frustrating is that at the current time (while Alexa+ is still in beta), Alexa is not able to change any app or device settings. Part of the reason we wanted access to an AI version of Alexa is so that she could change settings in response to a simple verbal request. But, most of the time she responds by stating that she is not able to change device settings and that we need to access the Alexa, or sometimes Ring app.
Mounting the camera is a breeze and there are several simple orientation options. Thankfully, the camera pivots nicely on the mount so the angle can be adjusted after mounting. The microphone and speakers work well, so you can actually talk through the camera almost like an intercom (using an Echo device from inside the house - even if you cannot access the video). Setting up boundaries and notifications is also fairly simple and I appreciate the addition of AI notes in the notifications. For example, the notification wont just say, "Someone in the driveway". You can now get a notification that says, "Three people with a brown dog in the driveway." A simple change that is quite useful. Alexa+ is also able to respond to certain questions about what is in the video.
I wish the physical size of the camera was a bit smaller. My personal opinion is that ring devices have always had a rather clunky and ugly form factor. The newest version of the doorbell is finally sleek and slim, but the Outdoor Cam Pro still seems unnecessarily bulky. Hopefully someday soon they reduce the size closer to that of the doorbell.
Overall though, a great camera that works well day or night. If you have Amazon products already in your house (speakers, doorbells, etc) this camera will pair fairly seamlessly with all of them.

Ring has become one of the go to names in smart home security systems. They are easy to use, the app is great, and you can be apart of community while using it. The latest Outdoor Cam Pro is a really impressive addition to the team!
PROS:
- Unboxing, this is a really appealing camera! It has nice rounded corners, isn’t too big or too small, and is something I would want to have on the outside of my house without looking like an eyesore.
- As I said in the intro, the Ring app is a really great easy to use app and it makes setup a breeze. This is not battery powered but plugin (which I like having a constant power supply more so) so you simply mount to where you want it, and run the power chord to it.
- Once set up, I was immediately impressed with the 4K video. It looks really crisp and clean, and made it easy to identify what is going on without any graininess.
- On top of that, it looks great at night too which is a big plus for me as well!
- This also comes packed with AI features in the camera which help better identify what you are seeing in your image and make it easier to understand as you look back at clips of what’s going on.
- It also can really stand to the elements as well. We have had rain and snow lately and it has worked great non stop without having any issues. It is an IP65 rating which helps drive that and also comes with a weatherproof power source.
- It also has a mic and speaker on it for voice controls aka you can hear what’s going on while also speaking to whoever is near the camera which is great functionality.
CONS:
- Probably my biggest complaint is that it’s vey much in the Amazon ecosystem. You can not use it with Google Home or Apple HomeKit.
BOTTOM LINE:
- Ring continue to show why so many people choose them for security camera needs. And the new Outdoor Cam Pro provides excellent 4K clarity, AI functionality to future proof, and strong usability for any outdoor condition. I see many people upgrading to this camera all around their outdoor setup!

Since I’ve been pleased with other Ring cameras in the past, I was looking forward to receiving a new Ring camera with 4K resolution and an Enhanced Zoom feature.
The Ring Outdoor Cam Pro provides great 4K resolution and enhanced zoom capabilities. The picture is extremely detailed—even in just the light from the garage and front porch—and a true upgrade from the battery powered Ring cameras of the past.
The build quality of this camera is great. The camera itself feels robust and well made, and even the cable is heavy duty, and feels like it will be safe to use outside where the weather isn’t always nice. I’ve been impressed with the quality that Ring has offered with this product.
Setup is easy: just download the Ring app, plugin the camera; scan the QR code on the back of the camera to connect; and finally, connect to the internet. The camera comes with 30 days free of the Ring Home Plan, which includes: up to 180-Days of Video Event History; 24/7 recording; alerts; and more. You can use the camera without a plan, but you are limited to Live View and Real-time Notifications.
Overall, this is an impressive outdoor camera: the resolution and zoom are great, and I would recommend it to anyone who has an electrical outlet near the area of camera placement. This camera comes with an USB-C outdoor/indoor power adapter, which is 17.8 ft in length, so you have a little wiggle room for placement near an electrical outlet. Also included in the box are fasteners and instructions for attaching the camera, and a sticker indicating that a Ring camera is protecting your property.
If you are looking for an outdoor camera and have an electrical outlet nearby, this camera is a great option. If not electrical outlet is nearby, considering one of the Ring battery operated cameras. I’d definitely recommend this camera and give it 5 stars!

Having every aspect of my home with Ring products already; I was excited to get this and test it out in one of my spots I want better footage.
First thing i noticed was how large the box it comes in due to it being corded power. So no battery power here. Which this is a nice selling point in my opinion at this junction. I have currently 6 solar panels to my outdoor devices already, so having powered with better clarity is a win win.
The process was quick and easy to get it drilled up and plate secured then the normal RING setup process, connect to your network. I have the EERO outdoor 7, so I have full bar with a signal strength RS of 46. It roughly 400 ft away from the outdoor wireless node. So that's a considerable upgrade from the previous outdoor cams.
This being 4k was exciting because everything I have is a mixture of 1080P and some 2K variants that I have been slowly buying and upgrading. The 4K is truly 4K once you mess with the settings and tweak to what you need to get it right.
The picture at night is super crystal clear and picks every thing up right away. I love i can now see text and license plates clearly. No more fuzzy people or images.
Overall great upgrade and this needs to be the standard moving forward.

Great security camera for outdoor. Image quality is excellent which makes the digital zoom worth it. Night vision is much improved over the previous models.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Outdoor Cam Pro to record clear and concise videos so that you can effectively monitor your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Outdoor Cam Pro are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the video quality concern you mentioned in your review.
It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. To fix flickering video on your Ring device, try these troubleshooting steps:
1. Check lighting conditions: Your Ring device automatically shifts to night vision based on available light. If your device is in a dark or shaded area, night vision may activate during daylight hours. 2. Adjust night vision settings: You can turn Color Night Vision on or off by going to Device Settings > Video Settings. 3. Avoid reflections: If your camera faces a window or is too close to a wall, you may get distorted images at night. Try adjusting the camera angle or use a Ring Wedge Kit to angle your doorbell away from reflective surfaces. 4. Avoid sun glare: Washed-out videos might be due to overexposure to sunlight. Adjust the camera angle to reduce direct sunlight. 5. Enable HDR: For greater detail in brightly lit areas, you can use the high dynamic range (HDR) toggle in your Ring app

“I Loved My 2K Camera… Until I Tried This”

## **Ring Outdoor Cam Pro – Overkill Excellence in 4K**
I picked up the Ring Outdoor Cam Pro to replace a 2K camera I already owned — and let me just say, I *loved* that 2K camera. It was reliable, sharp, and did everything I needed … until I needed just a little more distance clarity. Anything beyond about 30–40 feet started to look like a watercolor painting. So the upgrade motivation was distance detail, not disappointment.
### **My Experience After a Few Days**
I installed the Ring Outdoor Cam Pro on the side of my house (and yes, drilling into the siding felt like a personal commitment ceremony). I wanted to see if all the hype around “Retinal 4K,” 10× zoom, and full-color night vision was real or just marketing.
### **What I Loved**
* **The clarity is ridiculous in a good way.** The jump from 2K to 4K is instantly noticeable — zooming in actually preserves detail instead of turning the world into Minecraft.
* **The 10× zoom really delivered** the distance improvement I was hoping for. I could clearly see further down my alley, which my 2K camera struggled with.
* **Full-color low-light night vision actually works**, which surprised me. At dusk, instead of everything turning ghost-gray, I was still seeing color.
* **Wide-angle view** covered more of my yard and reduced blind spots.
* **Setup was straightforward**, even as a plug-in model.
### **Where It Fell Short**
* **Alert overload.** Every leaf, plastic bag, and gentle breeze apparently counts as suspicious activity.
* **Subscription required** for full features. Without it, the camera feels like a sports car locked in first gear.
* **Heavily WiFi-dependent.** The zoom-in detail is amazing when the internet is stable — less amazing during a laggy moment.
* **Might be more camera than most people need.** If you just want porch notifications, this is definitely extra.
### **My Verdict**
If you’re upgrading *specifically* to get more distance clarity — like I was — this is absolutely a worthwhile jump. I’d rate it **10/10** overall: fantastic hardware, incredible detail, but with a subscription and alert-spam caveat.
For basic monitoring, it’s overkill. For distance clarity and security confidence, it’s a flex.

If you are looking for a security camera for your home, definitely consider the Ring - Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K.
One of my biggest concerns when dealing with home security cameras is video quality. Especially at night. The Ring Outdoor cam pro provides a very clear image at night, so it allows me to check on my cars and my pets when I am away.
One thing to consider is whether you want battery over a hardwired security camera. I have had both, but battery cameras can be a pain when it comes to recharging. Unless you have a solar panel charger, which I don't. I also don't feel like buying a separate accessory to my already expensive security camera(s).
So, the wired Ring - Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K was a great option for me. I know, someone can easily cut the wire and render the camera useless. This is why I mounted my camera high enough to where that won't happen. I also mounted the Ring - Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K camera close to my home's soffit so that I could also run the power cable through the soffit and into a receptacle in my attic.
The installation is very easy. It can get complicated if you try install the camera on a masonry surface, but still very durable. It just takes a bit more time. The app setup is also very straightforward, and just takes a few easy to follow steps.
Overall, the Ring - Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K cam is a great security option for any home or business.

Is this the security camera that finally lets you zoom in and read that tiny moles on someone’s face from your porch? Is it worth the hefty price tag and the inevitable subscription fee?
The flashiest feature here is the Retinal 4K video quality. This is Ring’s first attempt at the ultra-high-definition game and it’s a noticeable jump from their older 1080p and even the 2K models my folks have. During the day, footage is detailed, and that’s obviously important for security. You can make out faces, distinguish clothing details, and generally see a much clearer picture of what’s happening outside your home. The increased resolution helps a great deal when you have a larger yard or a long driveway. Helps to have extra detail along with the 10x Enhanced Zoom. Please note that 10x zoom is digital, not optical, meaning the camera is just cropping in on the 4K image. But because the original image is high-res, the zoomed-in view is still far more usable and less grainy than what you'd get from zooming in on a standard 1080p or 2K camera.
But what about when the sun goes down? Ring tries to solve some of the common night-time clarity issues with two night-time features: Low-Light Sight and Adaptive Night Vision. Low-Light Sight is pretty cool—it uses minimal ambient light, like a nearby streetlamp or porch light, to give you a full-color view. No more black and white. However, there is increased 'ghosting' or motion blur in this mode if the object is moving close to the camera, so keep that in mind. If it's pitch black, the camera flips over to Adaptive Night Vision, which is the “normal” high-contrast black-and-white image from other cameras. It is clear and can be used to view details that you normally couldn’t see yourself in the dark. The overall video performance, especially in those tricky low-light conditions, is genuinely impressive and easily one of the camera's strongest selling points.
Beyond the visuals, the other tech packed into this "Pro" model is the 3D Motion Detection and Bird's Eye View, both of which rely on built-in radar. This is very different compared to traditional pixel-based motion detection. Instead of just sensing changes in light or color, the radar measures the distance of an object, which helps dramatically cut down on annoying false alerts from swaying trees or shadows. You can set specific distance thresholds—for example, tell the camera to only alert you when something crosses a line of X number of feet from the lens. Bird's Eye View is also interesting; it gives you an aerial map view of where the person or object traveled on your property before triggering the alert. It adds a whole new layer of understanding to your motion notifications. Plus, the Two-Way Audio is pretty loud and clear enough to actually hold a conversation with someone.
So, if the tech is so good, what’s the catch? Well, you probably already know it: The Ring Subscription. The camera itself is an investment, but to unlock its full potential, you have to subscribe to a Ring Protect plan. Without one, you’ll get motion-triggered live view and real-time alerts, but you won't be able to review, save, or share any recorded video clips. You’re essentially buying a fancy live stream for your phone. To get the 180 days of video history, smart alerts (person, package, vehicle), and video previews, you need at least the Basic plan. If you want the ultra-premium features—like the continuous 24/7 recording in 4K, AI-powered smart video search, and SOS emergency response—you’re looking at the more expensive Premium plan. This paywall is the biggest point of contention for me and why I always end up going back to the competition. You're paying for all this money for hardware, but you don’t get the equal experience because its locked behind a recurring monthly fee. I wish they would offer local storage (like an SD card slot or even a way to connect it wirelessly to a base station) to view recordings without a fee, but that’s never going to happen. Also, since Ring relies on cloud storage it means the 24/7 4K recording (or even the event recordings) will eat into your internet bandwidth. You’ll want to think about that if you have a bandwidth cap with your Internet Service Provider.
Installation-wise, this is a plug-in Wi-Fi model, meaning you’ll need a power outlet nearby, which might limit your placement options. You might need to run an extension cord or hire an electrician. It’s built for the outdoors, but the mounting hardware can feel low budget. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you use Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit, you should know that Ring is primarily built for the Amazon Alexa ecosystem. Integration with other smart home systems is limited. Integration examples are hands-free voice-activated live video feeds, two-way talk directly on the Echo Show screen, and motion alerts that instantly display the camera feed. I couldn’t find a way to do that with other branded displays.
So to Buy or Not to Buy? The Ring Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K is, without a doubt, a premium security camera. Its Retinal 4K video, impressive low-light performance, and radar-enhanced 3D motion detection are high quality. You get clearer details, especially at night or at a distance, and radar alerts to minimize false alarms. However, you have to look past the hardware and consider the entire cost of ownership. Are you comfortable with the hefty initial price plus the mandatory monthly subscription to actually utilize the all features? Are you already invested in the Ring/Amazon ecosystem, or would you be willing to switch? These are all questions you have to ask yourself. This Ring has top-of-the-line in terms of visuals and features. If you’re fine with another pricey subscription and using an Echo Show, then you can’t get better than this but if you’re looking for no subscription fees and more compatibility with smart services then you should probably keep looking.

Great for 4K in Ring Ecosystem

Verdict: This camera is great if you are already into the Ring ecosystem and want higher resolution. If you are not in the ring ecosystem, please note that you will have to pay for a subscription to get the most out of this camera (see next paragraph). But then again, most camera companies also significantly limit the features of their free plans, so this is on part with the industry. I do find the camera to be on the pricey side.
Subscription required. While this camera comes with a 30 day free trial of Ring Home, after the trial is over, you will have to pay monthly to get critical features. This may be fine for some and maybe not for others. Please do check the price of subscriptions before buying the camera so you understand what you are buying into. We installed this camera at a location where we had a Ring doorbell and where we were already paying for a plan, so this worked well for us at this specific location so we could continue to build into the Ring ecosystem. At a different location, we are heavily invested in a different camera ecosystem.
First Impressions. The camera looks robust. It’s bigger than I expected. In the box, you get the camera, power cable, ring sticker, two mounts, and manual.
Setup. We had to reconsider where to put this camera because we couldn’t hide the power brick. I mean it’s not huge, but it’s also not concealed like a cable. Once we adjusted the location and mounted the camera, setup is plug and finish in the app. Since we already had the app, the software setup was quite fast and intuitive. If you are new to Ring, this part can take some time as you must create your account and setup two factor authentication; it’s not hard but can be annoying (I just did this for my in-laws).
Performance. The 4K resolution is quite remarkable, with the ability to zoom in significantly more than our Ring door cam, but honestly… still less than I expected for 4K. Perhaps my expectation of zooming in 4K resolution was significantly inflated. Image quality is great under most conditions.
Integration with Alexa. By far, our favorite feature about Ring cameras is the seamless integration with the Alexa Show and Echo. Our cameras automatically display on the Show when motion is detected, and we can also customize announcements on the echo for motion detection. Amazing!!
App. Unfortunately, I really dislike the app. This may be because we are significantly used to another brand of cameras and their fantastic app… Nevertheless, I still think it is not very intuitive beside the basic functions of viewing the camera. It’s also not really well organized. I prefer bottom-of-the screen shortcuts/menus because smart phones are “portrait” format, so there is much more space to add things at the bottom. Having the menu on the left doesn’t make sense when screens are so limited on left-to-right space. Our dislike of the app is the reason we heavily integrated with Alexa devices; we never really open the app anymore, unless it’s to review past footage.
Things I love:
- 4K resolution is great, but manage expectation on “10x Zoom”
- Flawless Alexa integration; it adds so much convenience to the camera capabilities
- Two-Way talk works really well actually; best that we have tried
- Capable system if you pay for the subscription
Things I don’t love:
- Subscription is required get the most out of these cameras. Without paying for a subscription, I would not recommend getting this camera.
- The power brick in the middle of the power cord will not be optimal for some setups. It’s actually really awkward and required that we rethink where the camera was going to go.
- It’s really quite expensive compared to other close-enough offerings on the market for plug-in cameras.
Overall, I think this is a solid camera. For those in the Ring ecosystem, I would rate it a 4.5. If you are not in the ring ecosystem, I would rate this camera a 3.5.

I find that Ring Outdoor Cam Pro Retinal 4K camera is a pretty advanced and a well updated camera for your home, compared to their previous offerings. I picked up Ring Outdoor Cam Pro to see how it compared to my other outdoor cameras from another big brand.
With its 4K resolution (it captures video at 3840 × 2160 resolution for maximum clarity) I find the video quality has excelled and it was definitely worth upgrading for me.
I would also recommend this camera if your household is already integrated with Amazon ecosystem. Here is why. The Ring Outdoor Cam Pro is compatible with a broad array of Alexa-enabled hardware you may already own. Here are the devices:
- Echo Show (all generations)
- Echo Spot
- Echo Hub
- Echo Dot (for audio announcements)
- Fire TV (various generations)
- Fire Tablets (Gen 7 and above)
- Amazon Astro (their robotic assistant)
So with all these devices, this compatibility ensures that users can interact with their camera from virtually any Amazon device with a screen or speaker, maximizing accessibility throughout the home.
I have their Eco Show (the one with a big screen in the kitchen) and I find it very convenient to review the video feed either live or recorded right from the device. Of course you can do the same thing from your phone but using a bigger screen and its integration with the camera is my preference for home use.
Now, like all smart devices out there, this one also offers a subscription. I am not a fan of those, however it is worth it if you are already invested in the ecosystem. Alexa can deliver real-time announcements to Echo devices when the Ring Outdoor Cam Pro detects motion or when someone presses a connected Ring doorbell. With a Ring Protect subscription, Alexa can also announce when a person or package is detected, leveraging AI-powered object recognition. If you have their Fire TV, you get the same support and integration as well, which is super nice.
I think what really sold me on this camera is its video quality. I find it to be their strongest point, my older 1080P cameras and its image processing cannot compare to the quality of this camera. The trade-off is cost of course, but for peace of mind and great detail in video, the 4K clarity is hard to beat in my opinion.
This camera is a great contender to many other product offerings with 4K however its well integrated ecosystem and established business model means that these cameras will continue on being improved and its future support won't be abandoned. Check it out for yourself, compare it to other brands and see what works best for your home and situation. Hope this review helps!

Ring with 4k finally ! but needs AC or POE power

The Ring Outdoor Cam Pro is a Wi-Fi capable 4k security camera suited for indoor or outdoor use. If you have any Ring devices, it makes for a smart purchase. The camera itself is about the size of a tall beverage can, this model came in white and has a built-in mount which can be angled vertically. This camera requires AC power but can also be POE (power over ethernet) if your router is capable of supplying power over a wired network connection. Setup is simple, the mobile Ring App walks you through the basic setup using either the Android or iOS app. First it connects to your phone, then your Wi-Fi network. After finishing the basic setup, I found a temporary mounting area about 4 feet off the ground, with a view of my front yard.
The 4k video quality was fairly good, with streaming HDR video. Once I looked at the app and the camera setup a bit more in depth it allowed you to configure a number of different options, including detection zones and video quality, HDR and color night vision. One of the features is something called Birds Eye View which provides an aerial view based on a satellite picture of where the device is installed. Anytime there is motion, the Birds Eye view displays a trail of dots showing the movement of the person through your property. The ability to Zoom up to 14x is noted in the documentation for the device. When I zoomed in on the video to read a license plate from about 30 feet away, I could somewhat determine the numbers/letters. However, the ability to zoom and detail provided might be a bit overstated. I suspect that a wired connection may yield more reliable results with less variances in the bit rate of the video, providing a steady clear resolution. Color night vision and HDR are both noticeable features. The color night vision is effective and looks better than the standard greyscale usually provided with night vision functionality. HDR is particularly effective and makes for a pleasant looking picture, especially when the sky is featured, with deep blues and nice saturation. So, for you video aficionados you will be somewhat pleased with the image quality of this security camera, as long as network connectivity (and actually the internet, since the video is traversing a cloud service) is good.
Overall, this is a good consumer video security camera, especially if you are already invested in the Ring ecosystem and subscription model.
>>> Pros >> Simple setup process >> Two-way full duplex sound, so you can listen and talk if needed. >> Works with the Ring ecosystem, if you have one device, this device integrates seamlessly with the mobile app and other devices >> Excellent low light/night performance >> 155-degree field of view (wide) <<< Cons << As a single device, after the 30-day trial, the ring cloud service is reasonable, the jump to multiple devices is not in my opinion << No onboard device storage or memory card capabilities, you have to subscribe to the cloud service to have video history of motion detected events << AC powered, so placement may be complicated

Excellent, Except in Total Darkness

After acquiring the latest Ring wireless doorbell and being very happy with it, I decided to try their new 4K outdoor camera. When in good lighting conditions and even in low daylight conditions, the image quality is excellent at 24fps. But before going further, I was a bit disappointed with its performance at night. The video quality is much worse than I expected. They advertise it as low light “sight”, but it seems that what they mean by that is it performs well in a cloudy or shady environment as long as there is some daylight. You are somewhat out of luck at night unless you have at least a little bit of light which improves the quality a lot and even records in color. I've seen worse but I was expecting more.
What I like is that it supports all Wi-Fi frequencies available, including 6Ghz which is rarely supported by this type of camera. In fact, I noticed that image quality is considerably better when connected to either 5 or 6Ghz. It does make sense since those frequencies can carry more data and is usually interference free in comparison to 2.4Ghz. The issue that some people might experience is that higher frequencies have a lower distance range which can affect quality and performance in general.
I had some slight issues when zooming over 5x, but overall, it performed better than another camera I tried before, probably because of the 4K resolution. One thing I would like to point out is that this type of camera may be affected by some types of lights, especially old fluorescent ones. That may cause flickering or even banding. That was an issue I used to have in my garage until I replaced them with more modern LED lights. Thus, I didn’t notice that with this camera.
What I noticed only after installing is that it has a loud siren which can be set off remotely. That is great to have, especially when you’re far away from home. I tried it a couple of times and it worked instantly. It even has duplex audio if you need to communicate with whomever is out there. Audio quality is okay, not great, not terrible.
While it works without subscription, you’ll probably want at least the basic plan that Ring offers so you can record whatever happens. Personally, I don’t like any type of subscription, but that’s the world we live in today and ring doesn’t offer SD card option to record, and I agree that recording online is a safer option anyway.
Finally, although I noticed no great difference in the dark, setting auto HDR improves quality, allowing for better image details. Just in case, that’s what I set as default. Despite some cons, it is still the best wireless cameras that I have ever tried.
