The Ring Outdoor Cam Pro is a Wi-Fi capable 4k security camera suited for indoor or outdoor use. If you have any Ring devices, it makes for a smart purchase. The camera itself is about the size of a tall beverage can, this model came in white and has a built-in mount which can be angled vertically. This camera requires AC power but can also be POE (power over ethernet) if your router is capable of supplying power over a wired network connection. Setup is simple, the mobile Ring App walks you through the basic setup using either the Android or iOS app. First it connects to your phone, then your Wi-Fi network. After finishing the basic setup, I found a temporary mounting area about 4 feet off the ground, with a view of my front yard. The 4k video quality was fairly good, with streaming HDR video. Once I looked at the app and the camera setup a bit more in depth it allowed you to configure a number of different options, including detection zones and video quality, HDR and color night vision. One of the features is something called Birds Eye View which provides an aerial view based on a satellite picture of where the device is installed. Anytime there is motion, the Birds Eye view displays a trail of dots showing the movement of the person through your property. The ability to Zoom up to 14x is noted in the documentation for the device. When I zoomed in on the video to read a license plate from about 30 feet away, I could somewhat determine the numbers/letters. However, the ability to zoom and detail provided might be a bit overstated. I suspect that a wired connection may yield more reliable results with less variances in the bit rate of the video, providing a steady clear resolution. Color night vision and HDR are both noticeable features. The color night vision is effective and looks better than the standard greyscale usually provided with night vision functionality. HDR is particularly effective and makes for a pleasant looking picture, especially when the sky is featured, with deep blues and nice saturation. So, for you video aficionados you will be somewhat pleased with the image quality of this security camera, as long as network connectivity (and actually the internet, since the video is traversing a cloud service) is good. Overall, this is a good consumer video security camera, especially if you are already invested in the Ring ecosystem and subscription model. >>> Pros >> Simple setup process >> Two-way full duplex sound, so you can listen and talk if needed. >> Works with the Ring ecosystem, if you have one device, this device integrates seamlessly with the mobile app and other devices >> Excellent low light/night performance >> 155-degree field of view (wide) <<< Cons << As a single device, after the 30-day trial, the ring cloud service is reasonable, the jump to multiple devices is not in my opinion << No onboard device storage or memory card capabilities, you have to subscribe to the cloud service to have video history of motion detected events << AC powered, so placement may be complicated

I finally pulled the trigger on the Ring Outdoor Cam Pro, mostly because all the talk about Retinal 4K was too tempting, and honestly, it’s a game-changer for outdoor security. I used to have a standard 1080p camera, and when I needed to zoom in on a strange car or person at the end of the driveway, the footage just turned into a blurry mess—it was useless. But this Pro? The 10x Enhanced Zoom is wild. Because the initial video is true 4K, I can pinch and zoom ten times and still clearly make out details like license plates or faces that are way down the block. What really sold me on making the upgrade, though, was the night vision. The Low-Light Sight full-color night vision is exactly what I needed. I hate the spooky, grainy black-and-white footage; it always washes out important details like the color of someone’s jacket. Now, when I check the feed at 3\text{ AM}, the colors are surprisingly accurate and the image is bright enough that I feel like I'm watching a slow-motion video, not a ghost film. Plus, the 3\text{D Motion Detection} with Bird's Eye View is incredibly smart; it uses radar to figure out exactly where motion started and where the person walked, so I'm not constantly getting alerts from my neighbor's cat walking across the lawn. My only complaint, and it's a typical Ring complaint, is the subscription. You pay a premium for this great piece of hardware, but to actually look back at the amazing 4K footage the camera recorded yesterday, you still need to pay for the Ring Protect Plan. It's an extra cost that feels necessary, but if you want the best possible view of your property, day or night, this is the one to get. It’s expensive, but it genuinely gives me total peace of mind.

If you are looking for a security camera for your home, definitely consider the Ring - Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K. One of my biggest concerns when dealing with home security cameras is video quality. Especially at night. The Ring Outdoor cam pro provides a very clear image at night, so it allows me to check on my cars and my pets when I am away. One thing to consider is whether you want battery over a hardwired security camera. I have had both, but battery cameras can be a pain when it comes to recharging. Unless you have a solar panel charger, which I don't. I also don't feel like buying a separate accessory to my already expensive security camera(s). So, the wired Ring - Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K was a great option for me. I know, someone can easily cut the wire and render the camera useless. This is why I mounted my camera high enough to where that won't happen. I also mounted the Ring - Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K camera close to my home's soffit so that I could also run the power cable through the soffit and into a receptacle in my attic. The installation is very easy. It can get complicated if you try install the camera on a masonry surface, but still very durable. It just takes a bit more time. The app setup is also very straightforward, and just takes a few easy to follow steps. Overall, the Ring - Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K cam is a great security option for any home or business.

First of all packaging was great. It was really well thought out. And was shipped in box that I don’t think could ever get damaged enough that the camera would be compromised in any manner. Unboxing was intuitive. I set up the Ring app on my iPhone 17, iPad Air, current generation, and a Google pixel nine Pro. The app worked well among all devices. There were minor differences between the android and iOS ecosystems, allowing for a pretty seamless experience between the two I already had an account so I didn’t need to create one, but signing in was really easy even after I forgot my Password. Installation of the camera was pretty easy. All the installation hardware needed for most standard installs were there. Once installed powering up and setting up the device on the account was also pretty easy the whole process between installation and set up onto the app and being able to view took less than 10 minutes. If you are looking for an easy to use camera that doesn’t require a lot of thought other than just making sure you have power and Wi-Fi this is probably the camera for you in the Ring Eco system. Picture quality was good night. Vision was OK.

Overall, the Ring Outdoor Cam Pro (2nd Gen is a nice) update on the previous version. The 4k picture is nice and clear during the day and at night. The extra LED does make a different when using the "spotlight" as it is brighter than the previous generation. Setup is as easy as possible in the Ring app as it walks you through the setup from start to finish. The ability to customize the camera is great with options to use "bird's eye zones", create custom motion zones, set sensitivity, alerts, and even create a schedule for the camera. To get the most out of the camera, you will have to purchase the monthly or annual Ring plan which allows you to save recordings in the cloud, sharing of video, package alerts, etc. There is always a cost to unlocking the true power of your Ring camera so know that going in. If you are looking for a nice, outdoor camera that can keep an eye on things, the Outdoor Cam Pro is a nice option, especially if you are replacing an existing device or adding to your Ring ecosystem. Do be aware that there is no battery backup for this camera so if you lose power, you will not be able to record video or view live.

After acquiring the latest Ring wireless doorbell and being very happy with it, I decided to try their new 4K outdoor camera. When in good lighting conditions and even in low daylight conditions, the image quality is excellent at 24fps. But before going further, I was a bit disappointed with its performance at night. The video quality is much worse than I expected. They advertise it as low light “sight”, but it seems that what they mean by that is it performs well in a cloudy or shady environment as long as there is some daylight. You are somewhat out of luck at night unless you have at least a little bit of light which improves the quality a lot and even records in color. I've seen worse but I was expecting more. What I like is that it supports all Wi-Fi frequencies available, including 6Ghz which is rarely supported by this type of camera. In fact, I noticed that image quality is considerably better when connected to either 5 or 6Ghz. It does make sense since those frequencies can carry more data and is usually interference free in comparison to 2.4Ghz. The issue that some people might experience is that higher frequencies have a lower distance range which can affect quality and performance in general. I had some slight issues when zooming over 5x, but overall, it performed better than another camera I tried before, probably because of the 4K resolution. One thing I would like to point out is that this type of camera may be affected by some types of lights, especially old fluorescent ones. That may cause flickering or even banding. That was an issue I used to have in my garage until I replaced them with more modern LED lights. Thus, I didn’t notice that with this camera. What I noticed only after installing is that it has a loud siren which can be set off remotely. That is great to have, especially when you’re far away from home. I tried it a couple of times and it worked instantly. It even has duplex audio if you need to communicate with whomever is out there. Audio quality is okay, not great, not terrible. While it works without subscription, you’ll probably want at least the basic plan that Ring offers so you can record whatever happens. Personally, I don’t like any type of subscription, but that’s the world we live in today and ring doesn’t offer SD card option to record, and I agree that recording online is a safer option anyway. Finally, although I noticed no great difference in the dark, setting auto HDR improves quality, allowing for better image details. Just in case, that’s what I set as default. Despite some cons, it is still the best wireless cameras that I have ever tried.

In the box is the camera, UBC-C power adapter, standard mount/wall mount/kit with screws, a Ring sticker to put in your window and the users manual. Disclaimer - This is my first Ring product but not my first outdoor camera. (I also have a doorbell camera as well.) So I am excited to see if there is a difference between the Ring and my current cameras in a different ecosystem. I do own a ring security system and the cameras did work seamlessly with the Ring ecosystem. First Impression - The camera seems very familiar as most of the functions are the same as my existing cameras. The camera says that it’s an outdoor camera but the plastic seems thin and I was worried about it being outside. All of the hardware came in the box, which was nice. I do like that the camera came with different mounting options. You can use the stand or you can take it off or you can take stand off of the stand and use it as a wall bracket. The wall bracket has a straight position or an angled position. The camera also came with a shroud to cover the lens. Installation - The installation only took about 10 minutes to install. It also came with plenty of power cable, so you should be able to mount it almost anywhere. Ring App - The Ring app is very simple to use, intuitive, pretty much anyone can use the app. Scan the QR code and the app walks you through the process. There is a firmware update after you scan the code. I appreciate that the app is simple and straightforward. I like the motion notifications via the app on your phone and also the ring security system has an alert sound as well. There is a little delay with the two way talk feature but it’s expected being a WiFi device. It is a bit faster than my current doorbell camera. The Camera - The views from the camera are really good. The camera does have very low latency over WiFi. I am able to span my whole back yard and into the beginning of the neighbors yard as well which is about 240 feet. The night vision with the live view is also really good. It almost looks like daylight. The only cons right now is I thought that the shape of the camera was a little odd. It’s shaped like a cylinder instead of being the shape of an actual camera. Overall, I do like this product. I would recommend to friends and family and I would consider purchasing again.

Received this Ring Cam a week ago. I already have 8 various Ring Cams and Doorbell inside and outside my house and in basement and garage. Figured this would be a good upgrade for my driveway replacing my 4-5 year old Ring Stick Up Cam Elite. Super easy to setup in-app just like all my other Ring cams. Promptly automatically updated the firmware and good to go. Physical size is a bit larger than the one I was replacing, but still looks clean from the outside of my house above my garage door. Settings all similar to the other Ring cams and detection settings and alerts super easy to set as well. Compared to the prior cam, I suppose the images are a little sharper during daytime. But definitely better at night time with the night vision (which was one of the motivators to get this upgraded cam). I would definitely recommend this as an outdoor cam. Not cheap, but hopefully it can be found on sale. I hope this lasts for at least the next 5 years in the elements (winter is right around the corner!).

The Ring - Outdoor Cam Pro is a great, high-quality somewhat portable camera packed with tons of features. It seems to be extremely responsive to movement and doesn’t have too much lag between actual movement and sound, so talking through the app to the device is reliable. I also have used older versions of another brand, and Ring’s response time is much faster. The video quality in the Ring is also a vast improvement over the other brand. I especially like the video resolution in dark environments. This helps when using as a security device outside monitoring hallways and doorways. The only negative I can see with the plugin models, is the lack of a battery backup feature. My only recommendation would be including battery backup capabilities in case the power goes down. In a power outage, the unit would no longer capture video footage. Also, the need for an outlet can limit where it can be placed. On the positive side, you do not need to worry about charging it or the battery dying while away. The app is full of features and extremely customizable and the device is very easy to setup and use.

The Ring Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K is a welcome hardware upgrade, but that clarity is muddied by digital zoom, a high annual operating cost to really get the most out of your camera and some fundamental security vulnerabilities. +++ Pros +++ + Easy to setup the camera within the Ring app. + Smart design to keep cable from being pulled from the camera. + Daytime video quality is stellar thanks to 4K and HDR. + Motion detection range is excellent. + Works with Echo Show for easy viewing without needing a smartphone. + Feature-rich: two way audio, one touch Quick Replies, Siren. + The Ring app is pretty intuitive and it's easy to view, share and search for videos. Be weary that 24/7 recording and Smart Video Search require the highest subscription ($199.99 annually). That being said, you can spend a good hour or two just going thru and configuring all the Settings and you really want to because this impacts how the camera operates and behaves. --- Cons --- - Digital zoom. In 2025, I need Ring to start incorporating optical zoom. It's almost an oxymoron to give a camera a 4K resolution upgrade only to degrade the image quality with digital zoom. - You really need a subscription for Ring cameras since even basic functionality like accessing video event history, person/vehicle alerts and video preview alerts are paywalled. In most cases, you likely already have Ring devices, so this is going to push you into the middle or upper-tier plans ($99.99 or $199.99 annually) since the entry-level tier only supports one device. - Although they gave the camera-end of the security plug some thought, the other end that plugs into a wall didn't get such treatment. Simply put, security is defeated by unplugged the camera, so you're wall outlet placement and accessibility is going to matter (consider an outlet lock box). - No battery backup. If you lose power, again this camera is defeated. - B&W video quality is not great. You might want to install a nice floodlight so this can record in color where the picture quality really shines and is more useful. They also could've provided more lighting (perhaps on the sides) of the camera so that you don't need a floodlight. - The microphone is lackluster and sounds like you're talking thru a can. Wind noise makes it worse, but even without it, it's still pretty meh. - No true (automatic) geofencing. *** Final Thoughts *** I noticed an option for Power over Ethernet when setting this camera up, and it's really a head scratcher on why that's not STANDARD on these - especially considering that this would easily and effectively solve two major issues - the power cable vulnerability and the lack of backup power (if you ran the POE end into something that was plugged into a UPS backup unit).
