It gives an alert to your device when there is movement in a specific area around your home where it is placed. However, because it is wireless and battery run, you must charge the battery when it runs low. I brought 2 Ring Stick Ups, 1 for the front of my home and 1 for the rear. The 1 in the rear is up high. Did not realize at the time, I will need the people who installed it or someone else to come and reinstate another battery once the other runs out.
