It's tough to get the motion sensitivity dialed in and capturing consistent recordings is unpredictable. Battery life is much less than I expected (about one week) so I am going to have to purchase solar panels to keep from having to charge them so often. It's turning into a much more expensive proposition when adding the cost of solar panels.

It is important that the features available to you on your Ring Stick Up Cam meet your needs and expectations. We do appreciate that you have placed value in owning a Ring product for your home security.
The more events captured by your Ring Stick Up Cam, the more your battery is used to power the live HD Video stream to your device. Even if you do not answer the call, video is still sent from your Ring product to the Ring servers. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner. In addition, the battery is also drained each time you use the Live View to look or speak through your camera. To prevent excessive activity, you can adjust your motion settings to a lower sensitivity, disable certain zones, adjust the motion frequency to best fit your needs, or adjust the direction of your Ring device.
It sounds like the Motion Frequency feature may not have been set up properly for your environment within the Ring App. Ring's Motion Frequency algorithm is an internal program that runs inside of your Ring device. It analyzes the traffic patterns of detected motions, looking for repetitive patterns. When it detects such a pattern, it essentially "sleeps" your device for a certain period of time, cutting down the number of motion alerts you'll get from the same set of stimuli. The more time a repetitive pattern of motion continues, the longer the time between issuing motion alerts.

Need a Subscription

I can view live streaming anytime. There is only a 30 day trial for recording videos then you have to pay for a service. Other companies don’t charge a fee at all. The live stream is behind a second but by the time I view the live stream the person is long gone out of view so I need to join the service or get a different camera. I’m looking into other cameras.

Ring gives customers a complimentary 30-day trial with each new Ring device. After the 30-days, you can choose if you would like to purchase a Ring Protect Plan or not. A Ring Protect Plan is not necessary to view real time notifications on your Ring cameras. Without the Ring Protect Plan, you can still use the live view and two-way audio feature, you are still able to see who is at your door and answer motion notifications. In order to see past recorded videos from your ring device, you will need the optional Ring Protect Plan, which starts at $3/month per device or $30/year per device. My only suggestion to RING would be to update the MOTION ZONES so we can select the or draw our zones. Having 3 On/Off zones does not work specially if you live by the street or traffic. Battery also does not last 6 months as specifired. Other than that theyre good cameras, you can recharge the battery or put a solar panel sold by ring.
