We understand how important it is for your device to work properly to shine lights above your driveway, side yard, and other high-traffic areas for increased home security. The Ring Smart Lighting Battery Floodlight was designed to provide light with motion detection up to a 180-degree field of view. We would love to provide some tips and tricks to ensure your device works optimally for your home's environment.

The more motion events are triggered by your Ring Smart Lights, the more your battery is used to power the device. If your device is reacting to an excessive number of events each day, you may find that your batteries drain faster than expected.

To prevent excessive activity, you can take the following actions:

Adjust your motion settings to a lower sensitivity.
Disable certain products during specific hours of the day.
Change Smart Alerts to "Standard" or "Light."
Adjust the direction of your Ring product.

The Ring Bridge is the central point for connecting all Ring Smart Lighting products. Ring Smart Lighting Solar Floodlights are part of Ring’s Smart Lighting line of products. They strengthen your security while illuminating your home and property with the power of the sun. Use Smart Lighting Solar Floodlights to protect your home without worrying about power problems.

We would like to note that the Ring Bridge is only needed if you would like to use the smart controls feature of the Ring Solar Floodlight. Based on your review, it seems like your Ring Smart Light Floodlight is not working as intended. If this is the case, we recommend checking a couple of things. There are several possibilities. Check the following items.

Check your batteries.

Check your Auto Shut Off control in your device controls in the Ring app. You may have incorrectly set the time on the control.

Take yourself out of the equation. Leave the area for 10 minutes to give the lights time to reset without you triggering them and then return and check the lights. Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring Floodlight experience with us. We understand the importance of having the batteries last in your home’s environment, so these support calls are not necessary. Rest assured, we are here to provide you with information to resolve your concern.

To get the most life out of your batteries, Ring recommends at least three to four hours of direct sunlight, depending on your usage. Make sure there are no obstructions that could cast a shadow on your solar power device, such as an extended roof, tree branches, or bushes. If your installation area is frequently very cloudy or gets a lot of rain or snow, this could limit the amount of sunlight that your solar power device receives.

Customers can expect about a year of battery life when they keep the brightness at 50% and have the lights activate in 30 second intervals.

There are a variety of factors that affect battery life, including battery brand, light settings, and the weather. It sounds like your motion light is activating during the day, causing the batteries to drain faster than intended. To reduce daytime activation, set light sensors on devices to a low setting so the lights only turn on in the dark.

Hello John,

It is important to us that you are able to depend on your Ring Floodlight's motion detection. A properly positioned Floodlight will detect motion based on your motion zones. This way, you'll always have an illuminated area for your security and convenience.

If you haven't already, please ensure your device is mounted at 9 feet off the ground. This way, you can properly adjust the motion sensor to fit your needs. Once properly positioned, you'll notice the Motion Zones in the Ring app apply more evenly.

Our top priority at Ring is to ensure that our customers have the best possible experience with our products. We really appreciate your feedback. Our team is always striving to improve our products and their performance. In the meantime, when you go to your Light Group and select your Motion Sensor, you will have the option for Linked Devices. Selecting this will give you the different Lights that are in this group, and then you select the light toggle for the specific light you want to activate. Doing so will give you the option of setting a time when this Motion Sensor should activate this Light. This should help with only turning on the lights at night rather than all day.
