      Hi 4MyHubby,

We, too, believe it is most important to have great video quality on your home security videos. Ring Spotlight Camera - Battery should provide 1080p HD video for a clear image when recordings are captured or streamed. Our team is here to help you find a solution.

Poor video quality is almost always caused by some sort of wifi issue. Factors such as nearby interference, or low upload speeds at the camera's location can degrade video quality.

You can try bringing your camera indoors near your router. If the video indoors is of better quality, the culprit is probably something that happens in the distance between your router and the normal location of your Ring device.

If you have a wifi extender, such as a Chime Pro, we recommend setting it up. This can help improve the overall connection to your camera.

Please visit our community forum at https://community.ring.com/ for some additional tips and support. We look forward to hearing from you.

      All the best,

Initial Excitement Turned To Utter Disappointment

Based upon recommendations from friends and reviews we read on different websites, we purchased 2 Ring Spotlight Cameras with Solar Panels to keep track of activities in our front yard. We had the cameras installed by Best Buy Saturday morning and were initially quite excited, but the excitement quickly turned to utter disappointment. The biggest problem was that even though the Motion Detection range is advertised at 30 feet, we only experience a Motion Detection range of 10 to 15 feet in each camera. Coupled with the 3-5 second lag time after motion is detected and recording begins, the person is already at our front door by the time we get any notification. The motion detection is also very hit-and-miss (we can get a detection in one spot once and 5 minutes later there is no detection in the same spot). We really wanted this to work for us, but it doesn't.

      Hello Pdmagee6,

We are thankful for your feedback regarding your experience with the Ring Spotlight Camera. We are constantly pushing ourselves to develop products to empower users with an affordable, effective way to monitor and secure their home. In pursuit of our mission to make neighborhoods safer, when applying technologies to our business, we always consider our three pillars of customer security, privacy, and user control. We understand how important it is to have your devices working as intended, as it offers a level of security in your home.

After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Spotlight Camera is having trouble staying connected to your home wifi. When this occurs, we recommend rebooting your wifi modem and router. Since your router and modem are usually the hardest-working devices in your house, for optimal performance, you should reboot them about once a month. To reboot routers or modems, follow the instructions below:

Unplug your router or modem from its power supply (don’t just turn it off).

If your router and modem are separate, unplug both of them.

Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug them back in.

Wait for your internet to be restored.

Here is a helpful article which walks you through additional steps to take if the issue still persists for you after your modem/router reboot: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/217240386-In-app-Setup-Failing-Repeatedly.

Additionally, if you have not already, please check out our Ring Community forum where other Ring users, like yourself, have an open discussion platform to share their experiences, as well as solutions to issues experienced: https://community.ring.com/.

      Hello Reese,

Thank you for taking a moment to leave your review of the Ring Spotlight Camera. At Ring, we believe that stronger communities are the key to safer neighborhoods. That is why we are driven to create products that help you protect what matters most at home and empower you to connect with your visitors from wherever you are. We are saddened to read that this device did not meet your expectations, but we are still here to assist you if needed.

Based on your review, it seems that you are having trouble with your Ring Spotlight Camera picking up the correct motion. If this is the case, you may want to adjust your motion settings. Motion Frequency is a control in the Ring app that allows you to customize motion alerts to your home environment. When the areas that you’re monitoring have excessive or repetitive motions, such as children playing in a yard, you may receive too many alerts, which can drain battery-operated devices too fast. Motion frequency controls are designed to help you get the notifications that you want and preserve battery life. Here is a helpful article that explains this feature in more detail: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003477106-Understanding-and-Optimizing-Motion-Detection-with-Motion-Frequency.

Thank you for leaving a review. We know how important it is to have peace of mind when it comes to your home security. Your Ring Spotlight Camera is intended to provide this for you. Please know that we are here to assist and are confident that we can find you a resolution in a timely manner.

Certain models of Ring devices have a night vision feature that allows you to see through the camera in low light conditions. By using infrared light, the camera can create a black and white image that is then beamed to the Live View in your app. By turning the color night vision feature on, the camera will use whatever ambient light is available to try and create a “false color” image in your Live View. This lets you get a better sense of what’s happening in the image by creating a false sense of color depth. Here is a helpful article that walks you through how to enable this feature: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038559351-Understanding-Color-Night-Vision-and-Troubleshooting-Night-Vision.

      Hi Codebrown,

We value the experience you have with Ring, and want to ensure your Ring Spotlight Cams are meeting the standards they are intended to provide. It is essential to have peace of mind when it comes to your home security and the battery life in your Ring cameras play a big role in that. The Ring Spotlight Cams are designed to be a DIY home security solution that can be trusted to provide you with lasting coverage.

The battery can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home's environment such as the local weather, signal strength, and the number of activities captured. The more events captured by your Ring Spotlight Cam, the more your battery is used to power the live 1080p HD video stream to your device. To prevent excessive activity, you can adjust your motion settings to a lower sensitivity, disable certain zones, or change motion frequency to Regularly or Periodically.

The Ring Solar Panel is a great addition to prolong the time between manual recharges of the battery. Ensuring the camera is set up properly within the Ring app and the solar panel is receiving enough sunlight is essential for its performance. Please reach out to us today at https://community.ring.com/ for additional tips and support! We look forward to hearing from you!
