Junk cameras that are overpriced.

The lights on your Spotlight Cam should come on when motion is detected if it's dark outside. Depending on the ambient lighting at different times of the day, the lights may not come if it's still too bright outside. Additionally, the Spotlight Cam will record when motion is detected or when you activate the Live View. If your Spotlight Cam is not detecting motion, you may need to adjust the motion settings. The panel requires several hours of direct sunlight every day to effectively charge the battery. The ability to recharge the battery varies based on device settings, motion notifications, and sun exposure in the area of placement. The Solar Panel should not be installed in a shaded area.

Good idea terrible battery

Saw this newly released item and good reviews other Ring products have received. App is ok not great definitely not what shows in the manual can’t seem to control the lights. Notifications are great when motion is triggered. Wish there was a way I could load videos to my server versus 30 a year for storage not huge amount but doesn’t appear as though other companies charge for storage. Biggest disappointment is battery camera went up Sunday October 22 one week and battery is dead. It was fully charged when I put camera up. One week and for 199 to only get one battery when system holds two is quite the rip off. Another battery costs 20 with 5 for shipping I have only found on ring site no place else seems to sell. Great concept maybe improvements will come on future versions.

Based on your review, it seems that you are having trouble keeping your Ring Spotlight Camera battery charged. If this is the case, you may want to adjust your motion settings. Motion Frequency is a control in the Ring app that allows you to customize motion alerts to your home environment and preserve battery life. When the areas that you’re monitoring have excessive or repetitive motions, such as children playing in a yard, you may receive too many alerts, which can drain battery-operated devices too fast. Motion frequency controls were designed to help you get the notifications that you want and preserve battery life. I need to call product support

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I saw you were replying to negative reviews on bestbuy.com, so here's my comments (mixed) 1) I bought four of the wireless (battery version). So far satisfied with performance (some glitchy stuff, but seems to be settling out) -- but mostly because I intended to connect them to the AC power to keep the batteries charged, relying on the batteries if should the AC go off. To do that, I called your help desk and asked, what is the specs for the barrel connector socket on the back (needed to select an AC to 5V DC wall adapter with the appropriate barrel connector). First they asserted it was impossible (recommended the wired one), then after I pointed out the solar panel has to plug in somewhere, they denied knowing anything about the specifications for the socket on the back. Totally oblivious and unhelpful 2) I got out my calipers and measured and confirmed the barrel connector socket on the back is 3.5 mm x 1.35 mm -- so I bought AC to 5V USB wall adapters and USB to barrel connector (3.5 mm x 1.35mm) cables on amazon and they're doing a fine job keeping the batteries charged up. 3) This is the kind of information YOUR help desk should have provided. It might help a lot of your customers. As for me, why would I pay more for the wired version? I in fact assume that you'll discontinue the wired version once you run out of them, and then you'll start promoting the wireless version with an AC to DC adapter for both wired and wireless applications.

If your camera has stopped responding, please attempt a hard reset. This can help clear out most underlying issues.
To begin, ensure you have a fully charged Ring battery inserted into your camera. Then, hold down the set-up button for 15 consecutive seconds, and then release. The device will start its reset and should complete within a minute or so. You'll know it's ready to go when it enters set-up mode again.

There are two main causes for excessive motion events: device placement and motion settings. The first is the most critical, as placement affects how effective your motion settings will be.
For best results, this device should be mounted at 9 feet off the ground, and pointed in such a way that avoids unnecessary movement. For example, if monitoring a driveway, tilt it away from the road and sidewalk to avoid cars and pedestrians walking by.

Poor video quality can be attributed to the wifi/bandwidth connection. One of the most important measurements in your Ring security network is the strength of your wifi signal. You may run a special connectivity test at any time to see if a bad wifi connection is responsible for problems with your device. We have included step by step instructions below:
-Open Ring app
-Hamburger Menu/ 3 Lines
-Select Devices
-Select a Ring device
-Select Device Health
-Select "Test your Wifi" under the Tools Section
-Tap "Start test
-Once the test is done, Enter your Results from the Speed test
Sometimes, even with high internet speeds, the connection is not as strong at the location of the Ring device. A Chime Pro is a great solution if you want to extend wifi to your Ring devices. Generally, a single Chime Pro can effectively improve connectivity to your Ring devices in a two to three bedroom home, or if your devices are located close together.
For larger homes, with devices located farther apart, you may need to consider purchasing a mesh network system like the eero network. A regular wifi network distributes the wifi signal from a single point, your router. The further the signal has to stretch away from the router, the weaker it becomes. Wired is better than wireless
