    I waited for the release of this product and was disappointed in the build quality. Very cheap plastic feel. Very light. If you drop it it will break.

      Hi there, I know it's discouraging when something doesn't work the way you were expecting it to. To clarify, the Spotlight Cam is meant to be installed at a height of about 9 feet from the ground. Installing the Spotlight Cam any higher than that will impact its ability to accurately detect motion.       It sounds like the Motion Frequency feature may not have been set up properly for your environment within the Ring App. Ring's Motion Frequency algorithm is an internal program that runs inside of your Ring device. It analyzes the traffic patterns of detected motions, looking for repetitive patterns. When it detects such a pattern, it essentially "sleeps" your device for a certain period of time, cutting down the number of motion alerts you'll get from the same set of stimuli. The more time a repetitive pattern of motion continues, the longer the time between issuing motion alerts.

      Adjustable motion zones is enabled in all battery-powered Ring devices, and uses passive infrared (PIR) sensors to detect motion. By enabling you to adjust the sensitivity of your existing motion sensors, you can receive only the alerts that you care about most. Adjustable motion zones work by identifying visitors based on a change in temperature, and sending a signal to your smart device when it detects one. You can control the sensors' range and sensitivity using the controls in the Ring app. It is also optimized for low-power operations to save on battery power.

      It sounds like your device's battery may have died while you were gone. In many parts of the world, winter brings cold, rain, sleet, snow, and sometimes extremely frigid temperatures. As a result, Ring devices may have their performance affected by the cold. If you live in an area where temperatures get very cold and plan on traveling, we recommend you charge your battery to 100% prior to leaving. When charging your battery, be sure that it reaches 100% before you remount the device.       When viewing the Live View at night on a non-battery powered Ring device, you'll find that your image is in black and white. The color night vision toggle in your Ring app will enable your Ring device to use ambient light to create false color images in Live View.

      Certain models of Ring devices have a night vision feature that allows you to see through the camera in low light conditions. By using infrared light, the camera can create a black and white image that is then beamed to the Live View in your app. By turning the color night vision feature on, the camera will use whatever ambient light is available to try and create a "false color" image in your Live View. This lets you get a better sense of what's happening in the image by creating a false sense of color depth.     Decent product, awful battery life

    As a number of other users have pointed out this product has some real advantages: it is relatively easy to install and for the most part functions well as a motion activated outdoor camera. The problem is that the battery life is embarrassingly bad. The advertised 6 months of charge per battery is laughably inaccurate- we get more like 6 days. To their credit, Ring support did attempt to resolve this issue and when they couldn’t directed me to swap my camera out at Best Buy. Hoping that the battery issue was limited to my unit I made the swap and reinstalled. I also bought a second battery pack directly from Ring optimistic that I could add that pack and leave the camera alone for months before needing to recharge. This was not at all the case. We still get about 6 days of charge per battery. This means getting up on a ladder, removing a battery, charging for 10 hours, getting back on a ladder, reinstalling and repeating every 6 days. Far from convenient. If you live in a desolate location maybe this camera would work for you. If you live in a city or have an active household/ neighborhood I would recommend finding a wired option... unless you love ladders and super slow charging batteries.
