This seemed like an ideal product for my house. I have no access to power at the front or back door, so wireless was my only option. And with the promise of a long battery life I was sold. However, after the initial setup and installation of the cameras (pretty simple process), I have experienced almost continuous problems, mostly with connectivity and the app itself. Out of the 5 days we have owned the cameras, there were only about 24 hours that the cameras worked as expected. Very similar issues to the other poor reviews here. Constantly had to reconnect the cameras. And the battery life definitely sucks. Installed with fully charged batteries and today(day 5) they are around 30%. However, all the features when you could actually get them to function, were great. It's a shame that the problems overshadowed the great potential of the product. Returning to Best Buy.

    Excellent Camera(s), but....

I did not know after a full day of charging I’d only get 6 days of battery life from my cameras & of course I mounted mine 10-12ft up. I set them to the lowest settings possible to consume battery life. Honestly I’m kinda disappointed. With that type of battery life these cameras should be for indoor use only not outdoor.

I've had these for over 5 years or so and they are working just great! I did by a solar panel for one of them so I didn't have to worry about changing the batteries all the time. Highly recommended!

I have the first generation Ring Door Bell (running on battery) and 2 Stick Up Cameras. The stick up cameras are powered by two Ring solar panels and I have no complaints.. Considering this was an upgrade in video quality and the LED spotlights, I purchased thinking that I can expand my setup. Unfortunately there is no packaging content information or setup guide on Ring's website regarding this product. This is a complete wire free solution and there is no way to charge the battery without physically removing them from the camera. Considering you installed the camera 10 - 12 ft high, once the battery drains, you will have to go up and swap the battery or take out and plug a USB in the battery to charge. Each camera has 2 battery slots and it comes with 1 battery for each camera. I am very disappointed the route Ring took on these new cameras as they only come in a 120V Hard Wired, Battery Only and Hardwired Solar Panel only options. The versatility the stick up cameras had of charging with a solar panel or a 5V, 1A power adapter and running a USB cable to it can no longer be found.

      Hello AngryZ,

Oh no, I am sorry to hear about your poor Ring experience, this is by no means the Ring experience that we intended for you to have. I would like to step in from here and lend a helping hand. Our Spotlight Cam Wire-free has the ability to hold two Ring battery packs for long-lasting battery life. If one dies, the device automatically switches to the second battery for power. I would appreciate the opportunity to connect with you directly so that I can personally investigate the battery issues that you are experiencing. It is imperative to me that we get your Spotlight Cam working consistently to your expectations and I would like to ensure that I make this happen for you. The spotlight cams took roughly 3 hours or so to set up, but I can't believe the motion range it has. My house was recently broken into, so I wanted something simple, fast to install, and instantly responsive to motion on the front and back of the house. I can see the roads, my neighbors' garage, etc, whenever I want. I got it all with Ring!

    TERRIBLE!!! DO NOT BUY!!!

I bought 2 of these 2-pack spotlights, which were not cheap at all, just to find out they were cheap trash that doesn't even work. After 12 hours of charging the batteries that come dead out of box, I then had to spend over an hour trying to set them up to/with my phone. At this point, I realized the battery doors are cheap and could easily break, same with unit itself. After the were all set up, I noticed one of the cameras was making this awful squealing noise but I thought it was just interfering with my phone. I put 3 out of 4 of them up yesterday morning, and started receiving an obsurd amount of motion notifications but nothing was there. Unfortunately, with the wire free cameras, custom motion zones are NOT an option, so you can only limit the range in one or all directions. One camera wouldn't let me connect to the live view for hours after installing, and when it did finally work, a different camera stopped letting me connect. Halfway through the day, I was getting motion alerts, but couldn't watch live, and when I watched recorded videos, it was just a black image, no picture at all. The actual motion it picked up was so late, that people were already almost out of camera view before filming started. As the day goes on, all cameras are squealing when motion is detected, blowing ANY chance of DISCRETE monitoring, you could hear this noise houses away. At this point, I decided I was returning them and I went last night and traded for the Arlo Pro. I have not installed them yet, but already LOVE this system SO MUCH more, and it was $116 cheaper for same amount of cameras, but i get everything and more from Arlo i did with Ring except for the spotlight which is absolutelt useless if the cameras dont work and draw attention to themselves. Look for my review on the Arlo Pro 4-Camera Wire-Free Kit, will be posting it in a few days. NO MATTER WHAT YOU CHOOSE, DO NOT BUY THESE SPOTLIGHTS!!! I PROMISE YOU WON'T HAVE THEM MORE THAN A DAY.

Bought this along with the ring pro doorbell, and so far they both have been a great addition to our home. I love being able to check in on things whenever I want while I'm away. I work at Lowes, and have been showing co-workers and customers every chance I get just how amazing these products are. It gets a little pricey trying to do everything at once, so I'll have to wait a bit until I add more, but I am looking forward to getting the floodlight cam, and a few stick up cams for the outside, while adding wireless ADT cams for the inside. My only issue is with my double front doors being kind of wide, and where the original doorbell wiring is placed. I can still see what I need to, but I'll have to buy the angle brackets to make the view perfect. It would have been nice for them to come with the mounting hardware, but you can't have everything I guess. Overall I am very happy with both of these items, and I love that the spotlight has an alarm that you can set off in the event that an unwanted visitor is lurking around. It's pretty loud, and you can do it from anywhere...great feature!

This security cam works great! The audio and video quality is clear and the Ring app is easy to use, plus it has neighbor features where other Ring owners and subscribers can share what's going on in the area or within the city. I'm loving this unit! I highly recommend Ring security cams and doorbells!

    Ring Battery Spotlight Camera

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this camera because I loved the ring doorbell pro and needed a camera around the house. The mount and the camera was very easy to install you just have to make sure to fully charge the battery before starting up the camera. I suggest that you get a solar panel to plug it into so it gets recharged without the hassle of getting the battery out to charge. After having the Ring camera for a couple of weeks I realized that it needs a very strong wi-fi signal, otherwise it's going to take a minute or two to activate the live video feed. You have to make sure when you run the device health report that the wi-fi signal says "good" instead of "okay" for the camera to work effectively. Furthermore, the night vision will work best if the camera is pointed at a downward position because it doesn't really have the range needed to view a whole yard if you don't have any background outdoor lights assisting it. Also, the spotlights work fine to shine on a small area but are not as bright as the floodlights. Overall, the camera works very well and the video quality is good with a strong wi-fi signal.

Great Features but Disappointing Image Quality

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased the Spotlight Cam with solar panel kit directly from Ring. The design of the camera and solar panel is really nice and having the lights, motion sensor and camera similar to the Flood Light Cam was what I was looking for. Unfortunately the camera quality is really lacking. I thought for sure the unit I received was defective due to the much better image quality on the other Ring products I own (Doorbell 2 and Floodlight Cam). I contacted Ring service, after several days of tag your it emails and unhelpful corrective suggestions, Ring agreed to send me a replacement camera. I have to return the first camera at my expense. I installed the replacement camera today and the image quality is identical (not good). It seems the battery and battery solar powered versions of this camera have the same image quality which is inferior to the Doorbell 2 and Floodlight Cam. I have attached the images from both the original and replacement cameras as an example (note the lower resolution and blurry edges from the lens/camera design). The other features of the camera seem to work ok, witch the motion sensing distance adjustment very finicky but workable. I will keep this camera due to the need for a solar powered model, but I caution others to be aware of the image quality before purchasing and don't expect the same level of image quality as the other Ring products currently offered. Needless to say, I am disappointed with this product. (Best Buy won’t accept the photos, too large???)

Let me first start by saying the quality of the camera is amazing and the features it was just what I was looking for it was easy to install but the battery sucks!!! I charged the battery before use everything seemed good set it up outside.....and the first night was annoying!!!!! I was having notifications about every 10 mins. because of squirrels stray cats or cars driving down my street so I go into settings adjusted it still getting constant notifications and I don’t want to ignore them for the fear that something is going to happen so I find myself constantly having to look at it every video clip ugh! so okay I will give it another night same thing annoying even after turning the sensitivity to light and so here goes my biggest problem is after two days my battery is dead!!!

    Stay Away

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Not happy with it. I have the Ring doorbell and besides the lag time it takes to get a notification it works fine. Wanted to like this especially since it has the solar panel it makes it much more convenient. After reading reviews here and elsewhere it seems like common issues....light turns on for no reason, rarely picks up motion, battery drains very quickly (definitely get the solar!), live view works about a third of the time. I have had some grainy videos but it’s not bad. Have rarely had the speaker issue that seems to come up either but all in all I’ll be returning this. Maybe gen 2 will perform better. Ring needs to step it up to stay in the game. Too many cameras out there to choose from, but right now they have the chance to take the lead with the solar and spotlight added if they can get it working properly. Oh and customer support was of no help. Pull the battery out and put back in. Then while waiting on them to do whatever they were doing they disconnected me after being on hold for 30 minutes in the first place. Guess I’ll just run a line and get a Nest or something equivalent. Update: Contacted customer support AGAIN to return this and after 30 minutes got told the department that has to sign off on the return was closed and it would get taken care of first thing in the morning. A day and a half later I had to contact them again so they could send me a generic email to return it but I have to pay to ship it back. I can go to the local Home Depot or Best Buy and buy it and return it and it doesn’t cost me anything. Why am I having to pay for something that doesn’t work? It’s not like I’m returning just because I changed my mind. Ring needs to look at their online reviews and fix this problem! I won’t ever buy another product from them. Too many other and better competitors.

    More Novelty than Security

I purchased the ring 2 doorbell and the spotlight cam/solar panel. The doorbell has been great, but the experience with the cam has been less than acceptable. Installation was smooth, connection was decent at ~30’ from the access point in a window with a clear line of sight. Only 1 battery installed which I charged fully before installing. After the first week of adjustments where every motion in the area was alerting, I found a ‘sweet spot’ that allowed me to keep both cars in the driveway covered without being activated by every car driving through the neighborhood. Two months of good battery performance/charging, but seemingly random activation. Live view was always responsive, but what activates the camera seems off. I have alerts set to standard to reduce the frequency and do not receive anything from 5pm to 7am when we get home and leave for work. The problem is that someone went through our cars during the night and did not set off the camera, essentially rendering the system useless. Also, now the panel seems to not be charging the camera so there may be an issue with the camera itself. I am returning (with geek protection) and will give it another try and update after some testing. Currently not happy at all.
